Book Synopsis Loving Stones by : David L. Haberman
Download or read book Loving Stones written by David L. Haberman and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Loving Stones: Making the Impossible Possible in the Worship of Mount Govardhan is based on ethnographic and textual research with two major objectives. First, it is a study of the conceptions of and worshipful interactions with Mount Govardhan, a sacred mountain located in the Braj region of north-central India that has for centuries been considered an embodied form of Krishna. In this capacity it provides detailed information about the rich religious world associated with Mount Govardhan, much of which has not been available in previous scholarly literature. It is often said in that Mount Govardhan "makes the impossible possible" for devoted worshipers. This investigation includes examination of the perplexing paradox of an infinite god embodied in finite form, wherein each particular form is non-different from the unlimited. Second, it aims to address the challenge of interpreting something as radically different as the worship of a mountain and its stones for a culture in which this practice is quite alien. This challenge involves exploration of interpretive strategies that aspire to make the un-understandable understandable, and engages in theoretical considerations of incongruity, inconceivability, and like realms of the impossible. This aspect of the book includes critical consideration of the place and history of the pejorative concept of idolatry (and secondarily, its twin anthropomorphism) in the comparative study of religions. Accordingly, the second aim aspires to use the worship of Mount Govardhan as a site to explore ways in which scholars engaged in the difficult work of representing other cultures struggle to "make the impossible possible". Book Synopsis Teachings of Lord Kapila by : His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

This book was released on with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lord Kapila is a renowned sage and the author of the philosophical system known as Sankhya, which forms an important part of India's ancient philosophical heritage. Sankhya is a system of metaphysics that deals with the elemental principles of the universe; it is also a system of spiritual knowledge, with its own methodology, and culminates in full consciousness of the Supreme Absolute. Lord Kapila, however, is not an ordinary philosopher or sage but an incarnation of God. This book deals with his answers to his mother's enquiry about how to overcome ignorance and delusion and attain spiritual enlightenment. The underlying theme running throughout his answers and throughout Srila Prabhupada's commentaries on them is that one can achieve this goal by practicing bhakti-yoga, the process of linking one's heart to the Lord's heart through loving devotional service. This series, with original Sanskrit, translations, and purports, sheds light on such topics as the significance of the guru, the psychology of consciousness, the characteristics of a self-realized person, the science of meditation, the nature of transcendental knowledge, and the process of ultimate liberation.

Download or read book On Chanting, Presence and Releasing written by Satyadeva Das and published by Leadstart Publishing Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 1901 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is especially aimed at practitioners of Bhakti yoga who perform “Japa” mantra meditation on the holy names of God, but for one reason or another have not experienced the inner transformation they were expecting. The admission that I am not happy when chanting, or even worse, chanting is drudgery I have to do, can be a painfully shocking thing to admit to oneself and others. It takes honesty and courage to acknowledge that you have not yet realized the truth about yourself and continue to feel dissatisfied and unhappy with your life of chanting. If you find yourself described here in these words, then this book is for you.
