Book Synopsis A Comprehensive Model of the Transport Phenomena in Gas Metal Arc Welding by : Junling Hu
Download or read book A Comprehensive Model of the Transport Phenomena in Gas Metal Arc Welding written by Junling Hu and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive two-dimensional gas metal arc welding (GMAW) model was developed to take into account all the interactive events in the gas metal arc welding process, including the arc plasma, melting of the electrode, droplet formation, detachment, transfer, and impingement onto the workpiece, and the weld-pool dynamics and weld formation. The comprehensive GMAW model tracks the free surface using the volume of fluid method and directly modeled the coupling effects between the arc domain and the metal domain, thus eliminating the need to assign boundary conditions at the interface. A thorough investigation of the plasma arc characteristics was conducted to study its effects on the dynamic process of droplet formation, detachment, impingement, and weld-pool formation. It was found that the droplet transfer and the deformed electrode and weld-pool surfaces significantly influence the transient distributions of current density, arc temperature, and arc pressure, which in turn affect the droplet formation, droplet transfer, and weld-pool dynamics.

Finally, the book illustrates a case study presented by the authors and their students at Idaho State University, in collaboration with researchers at the Idaho National Engineering and Environment Laboratory.
Book Synopsis Advances in Computer, Information, and Systems Sciences, and Engineering by : Khaled Elleithy
Download or read book Advances in Computer, Information, and Systems Sciences, and Engineering written by Khaled Elleithy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-06 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conference proceedings of: International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Technology & Automation (IETA 05) International Conference on Telecommunications and Networking (TeNe 05) International Conference on Engineering Education, Instructional Technology, Assessment, and E-learning (EIAE 05) include a set of rigorously reviewed world-class manuscripts addressing and detailing state-of-the-art research projects in the areas of: Industrial Electronics, Technology and Automation, Telecommunications, Networking, Engineering Education, Instructional Technology and e-Learning. The three conferences, (IETA 05, TENE 05 and EIAE 05) were part of the International Joint Conference on Computer, Information, and System Sciences, and Engineering (CISSE 2005). CISSE 2005, the World's first Engineering/Computing and Systems Research E-Conference was the first high-caliber Research Conference in the world to be completely conducted online in real-time via the internet. CISSE received 255 research paper submissions and the final program included 140 accepted papers, from more than 45 countries. The whole concept and format of CISSE 2005 was very exciting and ground-breaking. The powerpoint presentations, final paper manuscripts and time schedule for live presentations over the web had been available for 3 weeks prior to the start of the conference for all registrants, so they could pick and choose the presentations they want to attend and think about questions that they might want to ask. The live audio presentations were also recorded and are part of the permanent CISSE archive, which includes all power point presentations, papers and recorded presentations. All aspects of the conference were managed on-line; not only the reviewing, submissions and registration processes; but also the actual conference. Conference participants - authors, presenters and attendees - only needed an internet connection and sound available on their computers in order to be able to contribute and participate in this international ground-breaking conference. The on-line structure of this high-quality event allowed academic professionals and industry participants to contribute work and attend world-class technical presentations based on rigorously refereed submissions, live, without the need for investing significant travel funds or time out of the office. Suffice to say that CISSE received submissions from more than 50 countries, for whose researchers, this opportunity presented a much more affordable, dynamic and well-planned event to attend and submit their work to, versus a classic, on-the-ground conference. The CISSE conference audio room provided superb audio even over low speed internet connections, the ability to display PowerPoint presentations, and cross-platform compatibility (the conferencing software runs on Windows, Mac, and any other operating system that supports Java). In addition, the conferencing system allowed for an unlimited number of participants, which in turn granted CISSE the opportunity to allow all participants to attend all presentations, as opposed to limiting the number of available seats for each session. The implemented conferencing technology, starting with the submission & review system and ending with the online conferencing capability, allowed CISSE to conduct a very high quality, fulfilling event for all participants. Book Synopsis Processes and mechanisms of welding residual stress and distortion by : Zhili Feng
Download or read book Processes and mechanisms of welding residual stress and distortion written by Zhili Feng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a fabrication technology, welding presents a number of technical challenges to the designer, manufacturer, and end-user of the welded structures. Both weld residual stress and distortion can significantly impair the performance and reliability of the welded structures. They must be properly dealt with during design, fabrication, and in-service use of the welded structures. There have been many significant and exciting developments on the subject in the past ten to fifteen years. Measurement techniques have been improved significantly. More importantly, the development of computational welding mechanics methods has been phenomenal. The progresses in the last decade or so have not only greatly expanded our fundamental understanding of the processes and mechanisms of residual stress and distortion during welding, but also have provided powerful tools to quantitatively determine the detailed residual stress and distortion information for a given welded structure. New techniques for effective residual stress and distortion mitigations and controls have also been applied in different industry sectors. Processes and Mechanisms of Welding Residual Stress and Distortion provides a comprehensive summary on the developments in the subject. It outlines theoretical treatments on heat transfer, solid mechanics and materials behavior that are essential for understanding and determining the welding residual stress and distortion. The approaches for computational methods and analysis methodology are described so that non specialists can follow them. There are chapters devoted to the discussion of various techniques for control and mitigation of residual stress and distortion, and residual stress and distortion results for various typical welded structures are provided. The second half of the book looks at case studies and practical solutions and provides insights into the techniques, challenges, limitations and future trends of each application. This book will not only be useful for advanced analysis of the subject, but also provide sufficient examples and practical solutions for welding engineers. With a panel of leading experts this authoritative book will be a valuable resource for welding engineers and designers as well as academics working in the fields of structural and mechanical engineering.

Book Synopsis Intelligentized Methodology for Arc Welding Dynamical Processes by : Shan-Ben Chen
Download or read book Intelligentized Methodology for Arc Welding Dynamical Processes written by Shan-Ben Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-20 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welding handicraft is one of the most primordial and traditional technics, mainly by manpower and human experiences. Weld quality and ef?ciency are, therefore, straitly limited by the welder’s skill. In the modern manufacturing, automatic and robotic welding is becoming an inevitable trend. However, it is dif?cult for au- matic and robotic welding to reach high quality due to the complexity, uncertainty and disturbance during welding process, especially for arc welding dynamics. The information acquirement and real-time control of arc weld pool dynamical process during automatic or robotic welding always are perplexing problems to both te- nologist in weld ?eld and scientists in automation. This book presents some application researches on intelligentized methodology in arc welding process, such as machine vision, image processing, fuzzy logical, neural networks, rough set, intelligent control and other arti?cial intelligence me- ods for sensing, modeling and intelligent control of arc welding dynamical process. The studies in the book indicate that the designed vision sensing and control s- tems are able to partially emulate a skilled welder’s intelligent behaviors: observing, estimating, decision-making and operating, and show a great potential and prom- ing prospect of arti?cial intelligent technologies in the welding manufacturing.
