Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summer of 1995, Mary Earle returned from a vacation feeling refreshed and restored from her time away. A few days later, all that changed, when she was rushed to the emergency room with a case of acute and life-threatening pancreatitis. Being ill, she discovered, forces you to learn to live in whole new ways, ones often marked by limitation and fragility. As a priest and spiritual director, Earle began to explore ways in which her own prayer life might help her build a different relationship with her illness. Using the Benedictine practice of lectio divina, or sacred reading, she began to "read" her own illness, and discovered a way of befriending and helping to heal--if not cure--her body and her life. In Broken Body, Healing Spirit, Earle introduces this strategy to others who are hungry to find ways of living more fully despite chronic or serious illness or pain. Her practical, step-by-step approach to "reading the text of our illnesses," and learning to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us will be of help to those who are currently suffering with disease or limitations, as well as to those who are caregivers and counselors.

Book excerpt: This book is about the story of Desiree Chase and based on a true story, which takes place in Harlem, New York. Desiree is the eldest of three children, born to her parents during the mid-1950s. The book makes reference to the various trials and tribulations that Desiree had to encounter during her lifetime. From her mother and father's divorce, loosing both of them, her father while she was in her 20's then her mother later in life. To raising her children in a Christian home while dealing with alcoholism and abuse, which was the relationship between her and her husband and surviving that conflict with great spiritual courage and determination. Even though Desiree understood that no human being was perfect, including herself, she still considered herself a woman that was, just as all of us, created in the image of the true and living God. With that in mind, she decided to pick herself up after her divorce, continued to care for her children and then her granddaughter and worked two jobs both full time to do so. She also decided to return to college to receive what she needed to soar high in the employment world and in her own world. She also experienced more disappointment both on the job and in her personal life when she realized that discrimination still existed during these days and times while being considered for promotion in an employment that she loved and enjoyed in the social services world, which is to be aimed at the improvement of the human condition of others, as well as their employees. This has occurred to Desiree twice which was a definite discouragement and extremely depressing to the point that she felt that she needed to enter professional therapy for help and to maintain her own sanity. It is amazing what happens when she stands up for her own rights, her dignity and her beliefs and not fall for just anything. Desiree had to come to learn that even though she was at a very low point in her life at various times, someone was standing behind her holding her up and had her back the entire time, when thought there was no one there.

This book, A Broken Spirit, a Contrite Heart, is book #8 in my Hiking the Trail of Truth series. I have received several requests regarding the subject matter, which material covers an in depth look for all of those who are willing and want to learn and to understand what God requires of them. And what does God require of you? Moses once answered, "To fear the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord's commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you this day for your good" (Deuteronomy 10:12,13). Micah completes this thought by saying that one is required to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). These are indeed spiritual sacrifices, not physical ones as were required under the old law. Jesus of course made the ultimate sacrifice, yet we as individuals are required to make important sacrifices as well, which is why this book was written. Our most essential sacrifice? The psalmist makes it clear: "O, Lord open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. For you do not desire sacrifice (physical) or I would give it. You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart-These, O God, You will not despise (Psalm 51:15-17). Let us hike this section of the trail of truth together, dear reader, and let us endeavor to understand the depth and importance of this particular sacrifice required of us...a broken spirit, a contrite heart... Sincerely, M S Taylor

Book excerpt: Salvation is of eternal importance yet it is very often misunderstood. In A Fourfold Salvation Author W. Pink addresses the subject of salvation by addressing; Salvation from the Pleasure of Sin, Salvation from the Penalty of Sin, Salvation from the Power of Sin, and Salvation from the Presence of Sin. "Ask the average Christian, Are you saved? and he answers, Yes, I was saved in such and such a year; and that is as far as his thoughts on the subject go. Ask him, To what do you owe your salvation? and "the finished work of Christ" is the sum of his reply. Tell him that each of those answers is seriously defective, and he strongly resents your aspersion." Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death, ' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.
