This is especially significant at the secondary level. We often find materials that are poorly translated and are not culturally appropriate or relevant. Bilingual teachers who have completed our credential program have consistently returned to me with complaints about this dearth of materials and have asked for my assistance in identifying better materials and resources. Over the past few years, I have assigned my bilingual credential students to find the best culturally relevant materials that are out there and to provide suggestions for how best to use these materials in the classroom. I have gathered together this annotated bibliographic collection as a effort on my part and the part of my students to help our current bilingual teachers in getting a better sense of what bilingual and bicultural materials are available and how they can effectively use them in their classrooms. It is our hope that this collection will contribute to improving the educational experiences of Spanish speaking English learners.
