Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How acting a little crazy and thinking outside of the box can get you the job you want Ever hear of a job candidate stretching out on the interviewer's floor to fill out an application? Or an applicant who sees nothing wrong with texting during the interview? Securing a job interview is a golden opportunity. The crazy-bad behavior described above will not net a job offer. Crazy Good Interviewing shows readers that crazy-good behavior, however, can make an applicant stand out favorably in a sea of mediocrity. Take the candidate who created a keynote presentation on his iPad to show what he could bring to the job or the one who created a DVD highlighting her abilities. Crazy Good Interviewing is a book geared toward those who are looking for work in this tough economy. Addresses how slightly eccentric behaviors can tip the scales in the applicant's favor Delves into how to access your three key strengths, how to use body language effectively, how to prepare a five-sentence history that builds a bridge to the interviewer, and more Turn just plain crazy into crazy-good, and land the job at your next interview.

Book excerpt: One of the great advantages of rational-emotive therapy (RET) and cog nitive behavior therapy (CBT) is that they frequently employ psycho educational methods-including bibliotherapy, workshops, lectures, courses, recordings, and films. I created RET at the beginning of 1955 after I had abandoned the practice of psychoanalysis because I found it to be highly inefficient and philosophically superficial. Being almost addicted to one-to-one therapy as a result of my analytic training and experience, I at first did RET only with individual clients and found this pioneering form of CBT considerably more effective than the other ther apies with which I had experimented. By 1957, however, I realized that RET could be taught to large num bers of persons through self-help books and articles and that RET -ori ented writings could not only prove valuable to the general public but that they could also be successfully employed to hasten and intensify the therapy of my individual clients. I therefore wrote a number of RET self help books-especially How to Live with a Neurotic (1957), Sex without Guilt (1958), A New Guide to Rational Living (with Robert A. Harper; original edition, 1961), and A Guide to Successful Marriage (with Robert A. Harper, 1961).

Book excerpt: An updated version of Deborah Whetzel and George Wheaton's earlier volume, this text is a well-organized sourcebook for fundamental practices in industrial psychology and human resources management. Applied Measurement describes the process of job analysis and test development with practical examples and discusses various methods for measuring job performance. Its primary purpose is to provide practical, systematic guidance on how to develop the various kinds of measurement instruments frequently used in the fields of industrial psychology and human resources management to assess personnel. With easy to follow guidance written in straightforward language, Applied Measurement contains three new chapters focusing on training and experience measures, assessment centers, and methods for defending the content validity of tests; includes contributions from many prominent researchers in the field, all of whom have had a great deal of applied experience; begins each chapter with an overview describing the job analysis or measurement method; and uses one job, that of an electrician, as an example throughout the book so that readers can easily understand how to apply job analysis data for the purposes of test development and job performance measurement. This practical, concise book is recommended for students and entry-level practitioners in the fields of industrial psychology and human resources.
