This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the 12th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production provide you with 816 papers representing the leading research in livestock genetics around the globe. This book covers all aspects of genetics applied to livestock production in 44 sections. Next to the exciting plenary speakers, and the recurrent technical and species orientated sections, there are sections focusing on specific challenges for animal breeding. For instance, large-scale phenotyping of individual animals, use of whole genome sequence data and improving genomic prediction, and sessions on the contribution that genetics can make to societal challenges, like animal welfare, climate change, biodiversity, or control of infectious diseases.

Download or read book Sheep Breeding written by G.L Tomes and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheep Breeding, Second Edition covers sheep breeding in its widest context through a collection of papers about sheep breeding from experts in the field across the globe. The book incorporates sections composed of general review articles and important research findings on the structures and objectives of national sheep industries from many of the major sheep-producing areas of the world. The text also discusses the genetic selection and breed improvement; stud breeding and cooperative breeding schemes; reproduction in the ewe; and male reproduction and artificial insemination. The monograph is recommended for those who wish to learn different techniques and practices in raising and breeding sheep, especially those who are new in the field. The book is also for those who wish to conduct research that would help improve raising and breeding sheep.

Download or read book Genetics of Reproduction in Sheep written by R.B. Land and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genetics of Reproduction in Sheep is a compilation of papers that are concerned with the study and application of genetics to the reproduction in sheep. The book is divided into six parts, grouping the papers according to topic. The main topics include genetic variation and selection; the inheritance and the effects of the Booroola gene; genetic strategies for single genes; physiology of genetic variation; the physiological criteria of genetic merit; and the national requirement and systems of husbandry. The text is recommended for those involved with raising sheep and plan to apply genetics in their reproduction, as well as for geneticists who wish to conduct studies on how their field is applied to sheep reproduction.

Book Synopsis Selection and Breeding Programs in Aquaculture by : Trygve Gjedrem
Download or read book Selection and Breeding Programs in Aquaculture written by Trygve Gjedrem and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-04-13 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although aquaculture as a biological production system has a long history, systematic and efficient breeding programs to improve economically important traits in the farmed species have rarely been utilized until recently, except for salmonid species. This means that the majority of aquaculture production (more than 90 %) is based on genetically unimproved stocks. In farm animals the situation is vastly different: practically no terrestrial farm production is based on genetically unimproved and undomesticated populations. This difference between aquaculture and livestock production is in spite of the fact that the basic elements of breeding theory are the same for fish and shellfish as for farm animals. One possible reason for the difference is the complexity of reproductive biology in aquatic species, and special consideration needs to be taken in the design of breeding plans for these species. Since 1971 AKVAFORSK, has continuously carried out large scale breeding research projects with salmonid species, and during the latest 15 years also with a number of fresh water and marine species. Results from this work and the results from other institutions around the world have brought forward considerable knowledge, which make the development of efficient breeding programs feasible. The genetic improvement obtained in selection programs for fish and shellfish is remarkable and much higher than what has been achieved in terrestrial farm animals.
