Book excerpt: Answering the question of effectiveness of educational interventions is no easy task for a multitude of reasons. The effectiveness of an intervention depends not only on the intervention itself but also, for example, on the target group, the available infrastructure, the current legislation, the time of implementation or the expertise of the teachers. This special issue shows the diversity in the goals pursued and the interventions used to achieve them. It also shows methodological differences in effectiveness research and argues the need for nuanced interpretation and for explicitly considering the context for the intervention.

Book excerpt: In this novel you read something about the longing of the planet earth with its plant world and its animal world to lead a peaceful and prosperous life, as the spiritual being, embedded in the spiri-tual energy, made development process possible. Planet Earth, a small planet on the edge of a galaxy, is doing well. What one cannot say about one's thinking corporeal living beings of the higher spiritual order, i.e. humans. They pull together, are greedy to the point and ultimately cruelly kill each other. What causes the human species in particular to constantly get involved with inhuman character traits?

Why does the human species exist? Are men, women and children of this species possibly assigned a specific task in life? What is right or wrong, good or bad? How should they live? And what happens after her physical death? Belief, dear readers, as church dogma, ultimately means nothing more than mental standstill and a stunted longing in the search for real spiritual being, embedded in spiritual energy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What drives the vast majority of people to devote themselves to the maximum satisfaction of elementary basic needs and to do so with great zeal? By this I mean eating, drinking, sleeping and reproducing of their own kind. And that with an almost limitless extensive effort. Even knowing that their livelihood is based on planet earth, and that this, as a closed system, cannot physically adapt to the increasing consumption of resources, such behavior is more than just strange. From this observation alone, they would have to come to the conclusion that a person has nothing in common with a monkey and nothing in common either. If humans behaved like monkeys, one would not have to worry about the planet earth in its physical and biological wholeness, or about its living beings of the most diverse kinds. In any case, they don't behave like monkeys. That cannot be overlooked. So what drives many people, besides the greed for power and money, to such reprehensible behavior?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: In this innovative reader, Pamela Moss and Karen Falconer Al-Hindi present a unique, reflective approach to what feminist geography is and who feminist geographers are. Their carefully crafted textbook invigorates feminist debates about space, place, and knowledges with a fine balance among teaching chapters, reprints, and original essays. Offering an anthology that actually questions the very purpose of an anthology, the editors create and then negotiate a tension between reinforcing and destabilizing scholarly authority. They challenge the idea that there is one set of works that acts as the vision, interpretation, voice, and feel of feminist geography while both reproducing key previously published works and including fresh essays from a number of feminist geographers in a single volume. The first chapter frames feminism, geography, and knowledge as a m lange of ideas, principles, and practices. Each of the three major sections of the volume begins with an introductory essay that places individual contributions into the overarching argument about the construction of feminist geography. Each introduction is then followed by a combination of reprints and original essays that contribute both to understanding how feminist geographical knowledge is constructed differently in different places and to showing what feminist geographers do wherever they are. The final chapter extends the anti-anthology arguments and raises questions that feminisms in geographies have yet to address. Students and scholars will find both the approach and the discussion essential for a full and nuanced understanding of feminist geography. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 25 articles covering a wide array of subjects, reflecting the breadth of scholarship of one of today’s leading experts in the field of Frisian Studies. The articles, written mostly in English and German, encompass a temporal range from Old Frisian to Modern Frisian and a geographical range from West Frisian in the Netherlands to Sater and North Frisian in Germany, and include Low German. Some articles initiate new fields of enquiry, e.g. uncharted areas of dialectology, others give comprehensive reviews of certain domains, e.g. the provenance of Old Frisian law texts, while a third category focusses on specific topics ranging from phonology, grammar and etymology to aspects of Frisian literature and a medieval Frisian ballad.
