This publication presents theoretical information, methods and resources for education and training activities, along with concrete exercises that users can put into practice in their daily work. Violence is a serious issue which directly affects the lives of many young people. It often results in lasting damage to their well-being and integrity, putting even their lives at risk. Gender-based violence, including violence against women, remains a key human rights challenge in contemporary Europe and in the world. Working with young people on human rights education is one way of preventing gender-based violence from occurring. By raising awareness on why and how it manifests and exploring its impact on people and in society, gender-based violence will no longer go undetected. Book Synopsis Spirituality for Youth-Work by : Phil Daughtry
Download or read book Spirituality for Youth-Work written by Phil Daughtry and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a systemic gap in existing studies on human services and youth work. While the notion of spirituality does make rare appearances in such literature, it is often vaguely defined and underdeveloped both as a concept and as a mode of practice. This ambiguity is symptomatic of the broader shift in the sociological context of Western and global societies that has been referred to variously as post-modern, late-modern and post-secular. From the perspective of the relationship between human development and the spiritual/theological, we live in a “time between times”. We have not yet worked out how to speak of “spirit”; nor how to include its meanings in positive youth intervention, and developments in our language for a public spiritual consciousness remain in a state of cultural flux. This book offers a coherent vocabulary and narrative from which to construct a more explicit and deliberate practice of spiritual care, education and professional identity for youth workers. It speaks directly to youth work practitioners, managers of youth services, those providing youth work education, and anyone with an interest in youth and spirituality research and practice.
Book Synopsis The Barrytown Trilogy by : Michael Cronin
Download or read book The Barrytown Trilogy written by Michael Cronin and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of The Commitments, The Snapper, and The Van signaled the emergence of a significant new voice in Irish fiction. The significance lay not only in the description of a particular milieu and the social reality evoked, but more particularly in the form of writing used to portray the lives of the fictional Barrytown characters. The book explores the dialectical relationship between the world of the Barrytown characters as mediated through filmed and televised experiences and the translation of these experiences into the film medium in Parker's and Frears' work. The book will trace the genesis and impact of the change in Ireland's fortunes on the work of Doyle, Parker, and Frears and show how the increasing de-differentiation of boundaries between economy and culture meant that a body of literary and cinematographic work like the Trilogy was as much a contributory factor to the contemporary transformation of Ireland as a reflection of it.

Book Synopsis Responding to Youth Violence Through Youth Work by : Seal, Mike
Download or read book Responding to Youth Violence Through Youth Work written by Seal, Mike and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of how to respond to violence involving young people continues to challenge youth workers and policy makers across Europe and the world. In this book, Mike Seal and Pete Harris draw on the findings of a two-year European research project--in which peer researchers spoke to young people--to examine different responses to youth violence. Developing a unique analytical framework that combines elements of critical theory, psychosocial criminology, and applied existential philosophy, the authors present a new model for responding meaningfully and effectively to these issues at personal/psychological, community/cultural, and structural/symbolic levels. Through a series of case studies, Seal and Harris show how these approaches have been applied in different practice settings. Essential reading in the fields of youth and community work, social work, criminology, youth justice, and youth studies, this book will stimulate critical new thinking and encourage reflective and theoretically informed responses to addressing youth violence in practice.

Book Synopsis The Anthropology of Ireland by : Hastings Donnan
Download or read book The Anthropology of Ireland written by Hastings Donnan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where and what is Ireland?--What are the identities of the people of Ireland?--How has European Union membership shaped Irish people's lives and interests?--How global is local Ireland? This book argues that such questions can be answered only by understanding everyday aspects of Irish culture and identity. Such understanding is achieved by paying close attention to what people in Ireland themselves say about the radical changes in their lives in the context of wider global transformation. As notions of sex, religion, and politics are radically reworked in an Ireland being re-imagined in ways inconceivable just a generation ago, anthropologists have been at the forefront of recording the results. The first comprehensive book-length introduction to anthropological research on the island as a whole, The Anthropology of Ireland considers the changing place in a changing Ireland of religion, sex, sport, race, dance, young people, the Travellers, St Patrick's Day and much more.
Book Synopsis Youth and Non-Violence in Africa’s Fragile Contexts by : Akin Iwilade
Download or read book Youth and Non-Violence in Africa’s Fragile Contexts written by Akin Iwilade and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-22 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes an important contribution to the conflict literature and to new ways of thinking about agency and social life in fragile contexts. It does this by engaging with often ignored peace infrastructures. In this book, the contributors highlight different ways in which non-violence is deployed by Africa’s youth to navigate difficult violent contexts. Drawing on empirically grounded case studies from the Central African Republic to Zimbabwe, this book explores how similar (or indeed the same) social infrastructures can be deployed for both violence and non-violence and the important factors that drive many youth to take the non[1]violence option even when order appears to collapse around them. The authors also explore how, for instance, systems of organizing survive violent disruptions to the so-called rhythms of everyday life, and, when they do, how they are then repurposed by youth to help them survive violence.
