Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book could be very useful for new coaches, especially those who may be starting a new team or those who have very limited staff or even have been thrown into the coaching arena because the team has a limited, inexperienced, or no coaching staff. It can also be a reference guide for experienced coaches who might be interested in a different way to coach. One of our main goals is to TEACH youth coaches how to TEACH their players the fundamentals and how to PLAY FOOTBALL, not just try to replicate someone else's program. The purpose of this book is to present our program (all levels) over a 7 year timeframe in its entirety and show you a different type of a fully comprehensive program that you will not find in any other books for coaching youth football Grades 3-8. From 2007 thru 2013, our 7th/8th grade team compiled a record of 56-0 resulting in 7 consecutive undefeated league championships, as well as being undefeated in games with teams from surrounding leagues. This book is not like most other youth football coaching books which focus predominantly on skills, drills and playbooks and imply that you can simply install what they do typically at the high school level and you will be successful. Instead, it is designed to encompass all facets of youth football coaching expertise both on and off the field, and teach you how to build your program. This book provides information on almost all aspects of our program including, but not limited to, program continuity, equipment, assembling and managing a coaching staff, coach/player interactions and issues, handling domestic issues, finding players, player evaluations, position responsibilities, player inclusivity, culture development, position and playing time management, dealing with parents (significant), dealing with parent coaches, player prototypes, coaching clinics, role models, practice structure and activities, teaching fundamentals, simplified offense (easy to install playbook) and defense terminology (ours), conditioning, handling injuries (significant), game day activities, dealing with day to day issues, paperwork/record keeping, team information content and distribution to parents/players, dealing with referees, total offense and defense structure (ours which can both be fully implemented as described), behavior issues (players, coaches, and parents), team parent activities and responsibilities, and tournament participation. As emphasized extensively in the book, our methodology is all about how we TEACH plays, that resulted in us leading our league in every meaningful offensive category every year. As for our defense, we developed a full zone structure (each lineman, linebacker and secondary player has responsibility for their individual zone), that resulted in us leading our league in every meaningful defensive category every year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Ensure That Your Children Are Given The Opportunity to Succeed at Sports Win The Youth Sports Game objectively narrates how ordinary kids can progress, survive, and thrive within today's $20 billion, youth-sports industrial complex. The sixteen-year developmental trek from toddler to collegiate athlete is chronicled while juxtaposing the real-life challenges that athletes in all sports must endure and overcome. Win The Youth Sports Game is the first title ever to provide an honest reality-check for parents—a What to Expect When You are Expecting for youth sports. Fifty incredibly common, adult-imposed obstacles are exposed so that parents can help their athletes navigate and overcome these challenges along their own sports journeys. Fifty million parents may be hopeful their young athletes are on track to play college sports and win a scholarship, but only about 2 percent of elite high school athletes receive even a partial sports scholarship. Share this book's table of contents with any sports parent, and they'll immediately identify with some of the seemingly outrageous storylines. The unfortunate outcome is that more than 75 percent of kids quit sports by age fourteen, with over-zealous adults being a big contributor. The author will donate half of any profits to Project Play's youth-sports advocacy programs.

Book excerpt: A New York Times bestselling author takes a rollicking deep dive into the ultra-competitive world of youth hockey Rich Cohen, the New York Times–bestselling author of The Chicago Cubs: Story of a Curse and Monsters: The 1985 Chicago Bears and the Wild Heart of Football, turns his attention to matters closer to home: his son’s elite Pee Wee hockey team and himself, a former player and a devoted hockey parent. In Pee Wees: Confessions of a Hockey Parent, Cohen takes us through a season of hard-fought competition in Fairfield County, Connecticut, an affluent suburb of New York City. Part memoir and part exploration of youth sports and the exploding popularity of American hockey, Pee Wees follows the ups and downs of the Ridgefield Bears, the twelve-year-old boys and girls on the team, and the parents watching, cheering, conniving, and cursing in the stands. It is a book about the love of the game, the love of parents for their children, and the triumphs and struggles of both.

The number of players and spectators has risen and soccer now rivals the more traditional American sports of baseball, basketball, and football. This is a study of current youth soccer training methods at professional clubs in Europe--where soccer is an extremely competitive sport--and a guide to applying those methods to young people in the United States. The author draws much of his information from personal observation of the FC Barcelona, Newcastle United, Glasgow Celtic, Munich 1860, and Slavia Prague professional teams in Europe, and provides an overview of the state of youth soccer in the United States. Chapters cover such topics as facilities, equipment, organization, and environment, player evaluation, training timetables and components, coaching, and philosophies of youth soccer. Also included are approximately 100 diagrams of soccer training exercises for youth coaches.
