Book excerpt: Yoga and Diabetes is an accessible guide for individuals with diabetes interested in beginning or deepening a yoga practice. It provides tailored guidance to people with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes, and features 30 yoga postures and breathing exercises arranged into programs to suit every person's individual needs. With easy-to-read text and detailed photographs, Yoga and Diabetes will explain how to do yoga safely, and includes options for beginning and less-fit practitioners. Sidebars with ideas on putting concepts into practice, sample weekly plans, lifestyle guidance, and tips for deepening the practice is woven throughout. Yoga does more than manage stress. In addition to calming the nervous system, it improves circulation throughout the body, increases muscular tone, improves balance, allows improved breathing, and provides gentle physical activity that nearly anyone can do. As a form of exercise, yoga (like any exercise) can increase insulin sensitivity and improve glycemic control. Research also suggests that the practice of yoga can help individuals be more mindful of their own self-care, make healthier eating choices, and facilitate positive lifestyle changes over the long-term. And it's fun. Yoga and Diabetes will also give readers an overview of the compelling evolving science of yoga and health, help readers to cultivate mindfulness, and explain how yoga supports the process of positive change and moderation.

Book excerpt: REVERSE DIABETES DISEASE WITH SIMPLE YOGA POSES Yoga instructors need to work closely with diabetic students in order to maximize the health advantages from yoga. Recent findings reveal the many positive effects that yoga has on diabetes. Yoga cannot "cure" diabetes, but there are several ways yoga can be beneficial in controlling diabetes. If medically prescribed regimens are followed by diabetic students, they can safely add yoga to their treatment. Due to the potential impact on their glucose levels, and overall body function, great strides can be made through regular committed yoga practice. The benefits of yoga on circulation are tremendous. This is one of the reasons yoga is so healthy for people suffering from a variety of ailments. Circulatory problems, in diabetics, are the primary cause of many devastating side effects. Yoga's focus on breathing, stretching and rotational movements, by nature, improves circulation. Yoga also helps maintain the elasticity of blood vessels. This further assists in good circulation. In turn, increased oxygen is supplied to internal organs and the important glands of the endocrine system. When the blood vessels remain elastic, this means better heart health and decreased risk of stroke. Back bends are especially good for the cardiovascular system. Yoga teachers should encourage diabetic students to incorporate back bends into their postures. If a student has mobility problems, because of age or obesity, consider assisted back bends with props to support his, or her, body, neck, and head. Digestion is improved through movements and breath control of yoga (pranayama). Pancreas and liver operation is also enhanced. The rotations of certain postures also massage the glands of the endocrine system, encouraging hormone production. Being Diabetics not just a day thing it has been a process of too many accumulation of sugary food and too much of carbohydrate. This book is not a diet book but a book that will help you reduce blood sugar from the body using simple yoga poses. This book comprises everything you need to know about yoga to prevent diabetes PURCHASE A COPY TODAY

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical movement has a positive effect on physical fitness, morbidity, and mortality in individuals with diabetes. Although exercise has long been considered a cornerstone of diabetes management, many health care providers fail to prescribe it. In addition, many fitness professionals may be unaware of the complexities of including physical activity in the management of diabetes. Giving patients or clients a full exercise prescription that take other chronic conditions commonly accompanying diabetes into account may be too time-consuming for or beyond the expertise of many health care and fitness professionals. The purpose of this book is to cover the recommended types and quantities of physical activities that can and should be undertaken by all individuals with any type of diabetes, along with precautions related to medication use and diabetes-related health complications. Medications used to control diabetes should augment lifestyle improvements like increased daily physical activity rather than replace them. Up until now, professional books with exercise information and prescriptions were not timely or interactive enough to easily provide busy professionals with access to the latest recommendations for each unique patient. However, simply instructing patients to “exercise more” is frequently not motivating or informative enough to get them regularly or safely active. This book is changing all that with its up-to-date and easy-to-prescribe exercise and physical activity recommendations and relevant case studies. Read and learn to quickly prescribe effective and appropriate exercise to everyone.

It can help keep your blood sugar levels steady and even help lower your chances of getting the disease in the first place. Brisk walks, running, and strength training with weights are good choices. So is one that many people may not consider: Yoga. Asana also modulates gene expression and increase muscle activity, strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance, resulting in favorable effects on body weight, adiposity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance. Yoga reduces oxidative stress, as demonstrated by reductions in serum malondialdehyde, interleukin 6, and leptin levels, and improvements in adiponectin levels. Yoga therapy increases the number of insulin receptors and increases the proportion of receptor binding in patients with diabetes. It improves insulin kinetics by reducing fasting insulin levels, shifting the peak insulin level to the left, and by normalizing the insulin-to-glucose ratio. It also reduces levels of free fatty acids, indirectly indicating improved insulin sensitivity or reduced insulin resistance. Yoga and various breathing exercises were found to lead to improvements on lung function tests. Yoga improves cell-mediated immunity, as demonstrated by improvements in the lymphocyte migration test in people with type 2 diabetes. Yoga also prevents the development of diabetes in high-risk individuals. It was found to improve symptom scores in people with diabetes. It also results in reduction of fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c, and anti-diabetic drug requirements, suggesting improved glycemic control. Yoga therapy results in a reduction in body weight, body mass index, the waist-to-hip ratio, body fat percentage, body fat mass, and skin fold thickness, thereby increasing lean body weight. Yoga can be an effective part of managing diabetes, due in part to the gentle massage that many poses give to internal organs and stimulating glands that regulate glucose levels in the blood. The most effective Yoga poses for diabetes treatment are those that gently compress the liver, stomach, pancreas and intestines. The gentle compression is helpful in stimulating each organ to function in the regulation of sugar levels in the body. Diabetics, who commit to the regular practice of yoga, will likely experience less dependence on insulin. Studies have found that significant drops in the average blood glucose levels occur in type II diabetics, when they practice yoga on a regular basis. Additional findings demonstrate an increase in nerve function. As a Yoga instructor, you can utilize poses (asanas) that are especially good for relieving diabetes related symptoms. Many of these asanas concentrate on the kidneys or lowering high blood pressure. The following asanas and sequences are a small sample of the possible movements recommended for diabetics. Sun Salutation: This sequence generates heat within the body, cleanses your digestive system and engages the muscles in your abdomen. Downward Facing Dog: Downward Facing Dog helps to alleviate high blood pressure and helps in digestion. Triangle Pose: Another pose that can be difficult for beginners, Triangle helps aid in digestion. Fish Pose: This pose is often difficult for beginners, but this asana has been labeled as, "the destroyer of all diseases." Fish Pose stretches and stimulates the organs of the belly. Hero Posture: In addition to strengthening the pelvis, Hero is also good for helping with digestion and lowering blood pressure. Corpse Pose: An easy and well-loved pose, the Corpse Pose helps remove impurities via perspiration and urine. Lying in corpse also helps lower a student's heart rate back to normal. Depending on the student's ability, you can also incorporate mild inverted poses like Legs up the Wall (Viparita Karani). For new Yoga students, Child's Pose is a wonderfully gentle pose to help with circulation as well as relive stress and fatigue. Book excerpt: The occurrence of Diabetes is not only found in mid-age or older adults but it also affects the young population in the world (Guariguata et al., 2014). Globally, the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus has been continuously rising and has become an epidemic. Approximately, 30 million individuals were earlier affected with Diabetes in 1964 (Entmacher and Marks, 1965).Ogurtsova et al. (2017) in their study showed that between the age group of 20-79 years, 415 million of the population was found battling with Diabetes causing a mortality rate of 5.0 million. Moreover, in 2015, the occurrence of Diabetes in adults was estimated at 8.8% and on the other hand, 16.2% of newborn had hyperglycemia (Ogurtsova et al., 2017). Due to increasing death rates until 2030, Diabetes Mellitus possibly became the 7th cause of death (Pal et al., 2017). Moreover, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has carried out the worldwide prevalence and estimation of this epidemic. The IDF shows the worldwide occurrence of Diabetes Mellitus viz. 151 million in 2000 [IDF, 1st edition, 2000], 194 million in 2003 [IDF, 2nd edition, 2003], 246 million in 2006 [IDF, 3rd edition, 2006], 285 million in 2009 [IDF, 4th edition, 2009], 366 million in 2011 [IDF, 5th edition, 2011], 382 million in 2013 [IDF, 6th edition, 2013] 415 million in 2015 (Ogurtsova et al., 2017), 451 million in 2017 (Cho et al., 2018). It was predicted by King et al., 1998 that in 2025 there will be 300 million adults diagnosed with Diabetes, 552 million in 2030 (Whiting et al, 2011), 592 million 2035 (Guariguata et al., 2014), 642 million in 2040 (Ogurtsova et al., 2017) 693 million in 2045 (Cho et al., 2018). Furthermore, it was revealed that individuals in low and middle-income countries record the greatest Diabetes incidence in the upcoming 22 years (Guariguata et al., 2014).
