Book Synopsis W.R. Trivett, Appalachian Pictureman by : Ralph E. Lentz II
Download or read book W.R. Trivett, Appalachian Pictureman written by Ralph E. Lentz II and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2000-12-29 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: W.R. Trivett (1884-1966), a farmer born in Watauga County, North Carolina, was also a self-taught professional photographer who left behind an invaluable collection of more than 400 glass plate negatives taken between 1907 and the late 1940s in the Beech Mountain community of neighboring Avery County. Along with the photographs (105 are reproduced herein), a collection of Trivett's personal papers survive, revealing very enlightening information about his life in the mountains. This work--the fourth in McFarland's continuing series of Contributions to Southern Appalachian Studies--carefully examines Trivett's life and photographs, comparing his work to that of contemporary outside photographers who often produced stereotypical images of mountain people. Through Trivett's images we can, by contrast, see the everyday reality for most people in rural Appalachia.
Book Synopsis The Complete Works of W.R. Bion by : W. R. Bion
Download or read book The Complete Works of W.R. Bion written by W. R. Bion and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 3603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Complete Works of W. R. Bion is now available in a coherent and corrected format. Comprising sixteen volumes bound in green cloth, this edition has been brought together and edited by Chris Mawson with the assistance of Francesca Bion. Incorporating many corrections to previously published works, it also features previously unpublished papers. Including a general index and editorial introductions to all the works, these volumes will be a useful and valuable aid to psychoanalytic scholars and clinicians, and all those interested in studying and making use of Bion's thinking.Bion's writings, including the previously unpublished papers and additions to his Cogitations, collected together in the Complete Works, show that the clinical thrust of Bion's work has clear lines of continuity with that of Melanie Klein, just as her work has an essential continuity with the later work of Freud. In Bion's clinical work and supervision the goal remains insightful understanding of psychic reality through a disciplined experiencing of the transference and countertransference; the setting and the method - however much Bion's terminology might suggest otherwise - remains rigorously psychoanalytic.
Book Synopsis The Clinical Thinking of W. R. Bion in Brazil by : Howard B. Levine
Download or read book The Clinical Thinking of W. R. Bion in Brazil written by Howard B. Levine and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Clinical Thinking of W. R. Bion in Brazil is comprised of thirteen transcriptions of supervisions Wilfred Bion conducted during his three teaching and speaking tours of Brazil. During these tours, Bion conducted over 130 public supervisions of analytic cases in English in which he explained his theories and illustrated their clinical application. Following on from the first volume, Bion in Brazil: Supervisions and Commentaries (2017), this book presents each supervision in full, with an accompanying commentary written by a senior Brazilian psychoanalyst and Bionian scholar. Arguably, no psychoanalyst has had as much impact on psychoanalytic development in Brazil than Bion, and this collection of his seminars, presented here for the first time, acts as a historical document and testament to his legacy in contemporary analysis. The Clinical Thinking of W. R. Bion in Brazil provides a unique opportunity for contemporary psychoanalysts, candidates, and students to hear the distinctive ‘voice’ of Bion, observe how he listens in conversation, and learn how he would intervene in and interpret a clinical situation.

Book Synopsis The Dictionary of the Work of W.R. Bion by : Rafael E. Lopez-Corvo
Download or read book The Dictionary of the Work of W.R. Bion written by Rafael E. Lopez-Corvo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-29 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This impressive work constitutes an important and timely addition to existing dictionaries of psychoanalytic ideas. It is not intended to replace the reading of Bion’s original texts nor is it a biography of W.R. Bion, the man. A brief history of Bion’s life is offered in the introduction to illuminate the conscious and unconscious factors that may have been an influence on his work, but the aim of this volume is to serve as an insightful and comprehensive guide to the often obscure meanings and terms explored and created by Bion throughout his many years, first as a psychiatrist and later as a psychoanalyst. It is an essential companion to the works of Bion that brings clarity and understanding to his absorbing concepts and is a vital addition to the library of anyone who has read and wondered over the writings of W.R. Bion.

Book Synopsis Chief Justice W.R. Jackett by : Richard W. Pound
Download or read book Chief Justice W.R. Jackett written by Richard W. Pound and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1999 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wilbur Roy Jackett, born in a small town in Saskatchewan in 1914, is inextricably connected to some of the most important developments in Canadian legal history. As a scholar, public servant, and jurist, he was a leading figure in Canadian law, serving during the governments of Mackenzie King, St Laurent, Pearson, Diefenbaker, Trudeau, and Clark. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan's College of Law, Jackett was chosen as a Rhodes Scholar. He returned to Canada from Oxford not long before the outbreak of World War II and joined the ten-man Department of Justice as a junior lawyer. Through extraordinary hard work, rigorous legal analysis, and a bent for organisation, he eventually became Canada's eighth deputy minister of Justice. He left this position after three years to become general counsel for the Canadian Pacific Railway and was later appointed president of the Exchequer Court of Canada. He quickly revamped the level of service provided by the court to the legal profession and the public and was instrumental in both the creation of the Canadian Judicial Council and the design and creation of the new Federal Court of Canada. As the first chief justice of the Federal Court, he led the new court by example, moulding it into the most efficient and effective court in the country, despite opposition from provincial superior courts and the Supreme Court of Canada. After fifteen years on the Bench he retired in 1979 at the height of his judicial career, believing that this would help the Court develop. He continued to work in relative obscurity at what he loved best - solving legal problems - but never again appeared before the courts. Richard W. Pound is a senior partner at Stikeman, Elliott, chancellor of McGill University, and a member of the International Olympic Committee.
