Book Synopsis Critical Mineral Resources of the United States by : K. J. Schulz
Download or read book Critical Mineral Resources of the United States written by K. J. Schulz and published by Geological Survey. This book was released on 2017 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the importance and dependence of specific mineral commodities increase, so does concern about their supply. The United States is currently 100 percent reliant on foreign sources for 20 mineral commodities and imports the majority of its supply of more than 50 mineral commodities. Mineral commodities that have important uses and face potential supply disruption are critical to American economic and national security. However, a mineral commodity's importance and the nature of its supply chain can change with time; a mineral commodity that may not have been considered critical 25 years ago may be critical today, and one considered critical today may not be so in the future. The U.S. Geological Survey has produced this volume to describe a select group of mineral commodities currently critical to our economy and security. For each mineral commodity covered, the authors provide a comprehensive look at (1) the commodity's use; (2) the geology and global distribution of the mineral deposit types that account for the present and possible future supply of the commodity; (3) the current status of production, reserves, and resources in the United States and globally; and (4) environmental considerations related to the commodity's production from different types of mineral deposits. The volume describes U.S. critical mineral resources in a global context, for no country can be self-sufficient for all its mineral commodity needs, and the United States will always rely on global mineral commodity supply chains. This volume provides the scientific understanding of critical mineral resources required for informed decisionmaking by those responsible for ensuring that the United States has a secure and sustainable supply of mineral commodities.

Book Synopsis Geology of Tin Deposits in Asia and the Pacific by : Charles S. Hutchison
Download or read book Geology of Tin Deposits in Asia and the Pacific written by Charles S. Hutchison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents an edited selection of papers presented at the International symposium on the geology of tin deposits held in Nanning City in October 1984. It documents a great advance in our knowledge of tin deposits, particularly of the People's Republic of China. Details are presented in English for the first time on the major tin-polymetallic sulphide deposits of Dachang and Gejiu, which bear similarities to the deposits of Tasmania, but are little known to the geological community outside of China. The publication of this volume was sponsored by the United Nations ESCAP Regional Mineral Resources Development Centre (RMRDC), now a Regional Mineral Resources Development Project (RMRDP) within ESCAP. The Centre had previously published a report on the Symposium in Nanning City and the following field trip to the Dachang tin-polymetallic sulphide deposit of Guangxi, entitled "Report on the International Symposium on the Geology of Tin Deposits: Nanning and Dachang, China, 27 October - 8 November 1984". It is my privilege to acknowledge the help provided by Dr. J. F. McDivitt and Dr. H. W. Gebert, co-ordinator of ESCAP-RMRDC.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tin Resources of the World Tin reserves of the world, exclusive of the and China, at a price be tween and per long ton pounds) of tin, are estimated to be at least long tons in 1970; tin resources of lower grade are estimated to be at least long tons. Reserves and resources of the and China together are estimated to be at least and long tons of tin, respectively. Thus, world reserves are ample to satisfy demand at a yearly rate of production of long tons of tin for about 31 years; resources should sustain production at a rate of long tons per year for an additional 56 years. Download or read book Halogenated Hydrocarbons and Alcohols written by Gerard Meurant and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Mineral Supplies: Assessment and Perspective examines some of the issues in the debate about whether there is an impending global shortage of mineral resources and whether technology and exploration can meet the needs of a rapidly growing rate of mineral consumption in the world. The geologic and economic factors that determine the demand for and the availability and distribution of mineral resources and reserves are discussed, and the future of mineral resource supplies is considered. Comprised of 14 chapters, this volume places emphasis on the technical problems of assuring adequate mineral supplies for the future. The discussion begins by analyzing the complexities and confusion that color much of the discussion about the size and adequacy of world mineral supplies, focusing on the importance of distinguishing between "resources" and "reserves". The next chapter deals with the creation of reserves from resources as a function of price, cost, ore grade, and technology. Subsequent chapters explore the physical and chemical factors that determine the absolute abundance and the actual availability and distribution of resources; the actual geographic distribution among countries of mineral supply and demand; and trends in energy consumption and supply. Conservation of minerals and of the environment and mineral exploration and technical cooperation in developing countries are also treated in considerable detail, along with deep mining techniques and UNDP-assisted projects in geology and mineral resources. This book will be of interest to economists, social scientists, geologists, mining engineers, and mineral technologists.
