Book Synopsis Sclerotinia Diseases of Crop Plants: Biology, Ecology and Disease Management by : G. S. Saharan
Download or read book Sclerotinia Diseases of Crop Plants: Biology, Ecology and Disease Management written by G. S. Saharan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fungus Sclerotinia has always been a fancy and interesting subject of research both for the mycologists and pathologists. More than 250 species of the fungus have been reported in different host plants all over the world that cause heavy economic losses. It was a challenge to discover weak links in the disease cycle to manage Sclerotinia diseases of large number of crops. For researchers and s- dents, it has been a matter of concern, how to access voluminous literature on Sclerotinia scattered in different journals, reviews, proceedings of symposia, workshops, books, abstracts etc. to get a comprehensive picture. With the pub- cation of book on ‘Sclerotinia’, it has now become quite clear that now only three species of Sclerotinia viz. , S. sclerotiorum, S. minor and S. trifoliorum are valid. The authors have made an excellent attempt to compile all the available infor- tion on various aspects of the fungus Sclerotinia. The information generated so far has been presented in different chapters. After introducing the subject various aspects viz. , the diseases, symptomatology, disease assessment, its distribution, economic importance, the pathogen, its taxonomy, nomenclature, reproduction, reproductive structures with fine details, variability, perpetuation, infection and pathogenesis, biochemical, molecular and physiological aspects of host-pathogen interaction, seed infection, disease cycle, epidemiology and forecasting, host resistance with sources of resistance, mechanism of resistance and other mana- ment strategies have been covered.

Book Synopsis Molecular and Pathogenic Variability in S Sclerotiorum and Uses in Idm by : Lakshman Prasad
Download or read book Molecular and Pathogenic Variability in S Sclerotiorum and Uses in Idm written by Lakshman Prasad and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an important book for the purpose of academics, scientists, students, extension workers and others those directly or indirectly involved in agriculture production. It contains very interesting research aspects to study on the diseases caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, which having ability to cause diseases on >400 host plants(economical and non-economical both). It have special information on the S.sclerotiorum molecular and pathogenic variability proven by experiments on cross-infectivity particularly the weed-plants which harbour this pathogen and provide the refresh virulent inoculum to the other economical crops cultivating in the same agroecosystem. The authors have been presented his research work during a special discussion on Sclerotinia Initiative Project session conducted by International Sclerotinia Working Group in International Congress on Plant Pathology (2008),at Torino, Italy. We are very hopeful this book will be helpful to all the person directly or indirectly concerned the research in discipline of Plant Pathology, Biotechnology, Agronomy, Horticulture and other related sciences.

Book Synopsis From Plant Genomics to Plant Biotechnology by : Palmiro Poltronieri
Download or read book From Plant Genomics to Plant Biotechnology written by Palmiro Poltronieri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the appearance of methods for the sequencing of genomes and less expensive next generation sequencing methods, we face rapid advancements of the -omics technologies and plant biology studies: reverse and forward genetics, functional genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, the movement at distance of effectors and structural biology. From plant genomics to plant biotechnology reviews the recent advancements in the post-genomic era, discussing how different varieties respond to abiotic and biotic stresses, understanding the epigenetic control and epigenetic memory, the roles of non-coding RNAs, applicative uses of RNA silencing and RNA interference in plant physiology and in experimental transgenics and plants modified to specific aims. In the forthcoming years these advancements will support the production of plant varieties better suited to resist biotic and abiotic stresses, for food and non-food applications. This book covers these issues, showing how such technologies are influencing the plant field in sectors such as the selection of plant varieties and plant breeding, selection of optimum agronomic traits, stress-resistant varieties, improvement of plant fitness, improving crop yield, and non-food applications in the knowledge based bio-economy. Discusses a broad range of applications: the examples originate from a variety of sectors (including in field studies, breeding, RNA regulation, pharmaceuticals and biotech) and a variety of scientific areas (such as bioinformatics, -omics sciences, epigenetics, and the agro-industry) Provides a unique perspective on work normally performed 'behind closed doors'. As such, it presents an opportunity for those within the field to learn from each other, and for those on the 'outside' to see how different groups have approached key problems Highlights the criteria used to compare and assess different approaches to solving problems. Shows the thinking process, practical limitations and any other considerations, aiding in the understanding of a deeper approach
