Book excerpt: In this stunning sequel to her acclaimed debut My Brother’s Keeper, #1 national bestselling author ReShonda Tate Billingsley brings her real-deal insight to a heartfelt new novel about a wife and mother on a daring rescue mission—to save herself. Freshly forty-five, Aja James knows that her life is good, complete with a loving, wealthy husband, well-adjusted children, and a beautiful home. Yet the truth is, she feels painfully unfulfilled, stuck in the present, haunted by a painful past. When a friend suggests a girls’ trip to a tropical paradise, Aja hopes a change of scene will also change her perspective. On vacation, filled with fun and freedom, Aja is relieved to find her spirits lifting. But her good time also shines a light on what’s troubling her: from her siblings to her husband and kids, she’s spent nearly her whole life taking care of everyone—except herself. She’s lost her spark. She’s lost her identity. Desperate to turn things around, Aja makes an impulsive decision—one that outrages her family and stuns her friends. But it may also be her wisest choice. Because it’s only through learning what she could lose—and what’s truly worth keeping—that Aja can transform this temporary fix into real, lasting happiness. “Billingsley puts a spin on the question every woman will ask at some point—who am I outside of the people I love? More to Life answers that timeless question with grace, resilience, and a fresh voice.” —Jessica Pack, author of Whatever It Takes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one actually knows what it feels like to be hurt unless they are being hurt. There are emotions that words can't express but we always choose to endure the hurt and sort for solutions all because of love. Right now, I know you have a thousand reasons to quit your relationship. There are lots of questions you wish could be answered and secrets you wish you know. You have tried everything possible to make things work but you have a partner who doesn't notice or appreciate your efforts. Most times you feel lonely, not loved, disappointed and rejected. In the face of this entire emotional trauma, you kept holding on and believing that everything will be alright and the sparks of love will return back in your relationship, the way it was when you first met. You often get hurt knowing that you have tried your best; you have loved your partner just like any faithful lover would do. Your partners' silence and carelessness keep breaking and widening the gap between you both. At some point, you begin to feel less concerned and live your life as though your partner doesn't exist. No more constant calls, chat, attention and care. You both start communicating like strangers. As time goes on, you lose interest and your love gradually fades away. When you have a partner who doesn't appreciate the efforts and sacrifices you make just to protect your relationship. A partner who does not trust you but believe you are cheating, even when you are doing everything possible to please them and to let them know that there are no other persons in your life except them. You make sacrifices and when you expect appreciation it either results in fights or misunderstandings. Then you begin to ask yourself questions. You feel like you are not worthy or beautiful enough. You feel less, it gets bad to a point that you want to hear your partner say "thank you" or say a word of appreciation but to no avail. You finally give up and say to yourself, "that's the kind of person he is". You gave up the world's handsome and beautiful men and women respectively just to be with your partner. Yet they treat you lesser than you deserve. There are many people of the opposite sex who are much more handsome, beautiful, loving and caring than your partner whom are making advances to you but you choose to stick to your partner, yet they dare take you for granted. You love your partner so much that you are willing to do anything to make them happy yet; they would not appreciate and value you. Sometimes, you have sleepless night, cry all night and crave for your partner but he or she is never available for you. It affects you to the extent that you lost your sleep, and when you finally sleep, you wake up with headache, and excuse upon excuses is all you get. The greatest of it all is when they become emotionally and physically unavailable when you need them the most. Your partner put his or her job above you. When you try to confront them about how lonely you feel and how he or she is emotionally unavailable for you, your partner turns your word and everything against you and make you look bad and at fault. Your heart is heavy and filled up. You become helpless and do not know whom to talk to. I know, you have many reasons to quit and so many questions you wish could be answered. In this book, there are few important and sensitive questions we will be addressing before you finally call the shot. I will also love to get your feedback and your own side of the story. Sometimes, the major challenge is not us neither is it our partner but the way we decide to handle this issues, our reaction, choice of words and how best we are able to control our emotions while addressing these challenges. Feel free to send your feedback via my contact that is made available below the pages. Thank you

Book excerpt: From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together

Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A special 25th anniversary edition of the beloved book that has changed millions of lives with the story of an unforgettable friendship, the timeless wisdom of older generations, and healing lessons on loss and grief—featuring a new afterword by the author “A wonderful book, a story of the heart told by a writer with soul.”—Los Angeles Times “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. For Mitch Albom, that person was his college professor Morrie Schwartz. Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn’t you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger? Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man’s life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final “class”: lessons in how to live. “The truth is, Mitch,” he said, “once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” Tuesdays with Morrie is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie’s lasting gift with the world.

Book excerpt: What are you searching for in life? Is there a void that you are desperately attempting to fill? Are you wondering what might be next? The job, relationship, salary, title, status, and so much more have been the focal point of so many explorations. These things are sought after in hopes of bringing ultimate and sustaining joy. However, they never do. Ready, Fire, Aim is about one person’s journey to find sustainable joy by walking back into the one place he swore he would never return to. Through author Philip Floor’s stories and the lessons he learned, you too can discover a way to fill the void that will never run empty again. Philip shows how there can be true and sustainable joy found in simply walking back into the local church and saying yes. If you want to make this life worth it—and if what you have been doing isn’t working—open this book. If you are skeptical, remember these words. Expecting things to change, without being willing to change, will result in no change—because nothing changed. It’s time to make a change. Philip’s challenge to you is simple: return to the one place you don’t want to go back to, say yes, and ask questions later. Ready, fire, aim.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is based on a true love story that spanned almost two decades. The names and places have been changed to protect the privacy of the individuals involved in this affair. The chronological sequence of events has been maintained for continuity. All the stories and experiences are based on facts. This book is about a love story that was kept secret for 18 years and perhaps shouldve remained a secret. The first book related to this love story was a book of poems entitled Somewhere, Sometime, Somehow: Love Poems and Short Stories published in 2008 by this author and Xlibris. For the perceptive reader of this book one can trace the ups and downs of our love relationship. These 18 years were filled with robust love and passion for each other. Perhaps it was fantasy; perhaps it was the most real thing we will ever experience. The heartbreaking part of this love affair is that I am not really sure my lover ever really understood or appreciated my profound and unconditional love for her. I opened my heart to her through poetry and thoughtful letters, but she rarely showed me what was in her heart. Perhaps it was a one-sided love affair, but I surely think and hope not. I was convinced that she truly loved me through her words and actions. At least I experienced a pure love that I had only dreamed was possible. The story is told mainly through the exchange of letters and emails to each other. Perhaps readers can experience and hopefully feel the deep love we felt for each other.
