Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diseases of the joints and surrounding tissues cannot be visualised without the help of imaging techniques. These range from x-rays (which have been available for over 100 years) to the highly sophisticated magnetic resonance imaging scanning. The variety of imaging techniques and indeed the quality of these images has improved radically in the past decade and this book attempts to capture the way in which rheumatologists and their colleagues can use a wide variety of techniques to analyse musculoskeletal diseases which are known to exist. This handbook provides the reader with an insight into both which imaging techniques should be applied to particular clinical problems and how the results can be used to determine the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions. It is extensively illustrated with examples of the various imaging techniques and joints to aid understanding, and is organised by anatomical region and specific musculoskeletal disorder to allow easy access to information.

Book excerpt: The first complete reference dedicated to the full spectrum of women's imaging topics "Women’s imaging" refers to the use of imaging modalities (X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI) available for aiding in the diagnosis and care of such female-centric diseases as cancer of the breast, uterus, and ovaries. Currently, there is no single reference source that provides adequate discussions of MRI and its important role in the diagnosis of patients with women's health issues. Thoroughly illustrated with the highest-quality radiographic images available, Women’s Imaging: MRI with Multimodality Correlation provides a concise overview of the topic and emphasizes practical image interpretation. It makes clear use of tables and diagrams, and offers careful examination of differential diagnosis with special notes on key learning points. Placing great emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), while providing correlations to other important imaging modalities, the comprehensive book features the latest guidelines on imaging screening and includes in-depth chapter coverage of: Pelvis MRI: Introduction and Technique Imaging the Vagina and Urethra Pelvic Floor Imaging Imaging the Uterus Imaging the Adnexa Imaging Maternal Conditions in Pregnancy Fetal Imaging Breast MRI: Introduction and Technique ACR Breast MRI Lexicon and Interpretation Preoperative Breast Cancer Evaluation and Advanced Breast Cancer Imaging Postsurgical Breast and Implant Imaging MR-Guided Breast Interventions Providing up-to-date information on many of the health issues that affect women across the globe, Women's Imaging will appeal to all general radiologists – especially those specializing in body imaging, breast imaging, and women’s imaging – as well as gynaecologists and obstetricians, breast surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, and MRI technologists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily a symptom-based guide to Breast and Gynecologic Imaging. Most clinical publications focus on a specific pathology such as "Imaging and/or management of ovarian cancer," but in clinical practice, patients do not present with a diagnosis. Physicians are presented with clinical symptoms, and appropriate use of imaging after a clinical assessment is critical from the point of view of effective intervention to treat a patient. CMS now mandates a clinical decision support system to justify imaging. This is based on making use of appropriate modalities for specific clinical problems that are deemed so by professional society guidelines. In an era of emphasis on cost effective, high quality health care delivery, it is critical for clinicians in training and practice to have a resource that outlines scientifically sound and professional society endorsed criteria for appropriate work up of patients’ symptoms. This book applies this symptom-based approach to women’s health. Authors are focused on providing a scientifically proven resource to gynecologists, obstetricians, radiologists and internists involved in the management of common symptoms affecting women. Each chapter is based on a common breast or gynecological problem and how patients are triaged for imaging. The implications of the findings and the most appropriate management of the patient are also presented. The text focuses on providing the most effective methods currently available to investigate commonly encountered symptoms in women’s health. In addition, there are chapters that outline rationale of screening for breast cancer in women with an average risk and those with an elevated risk for breast cancer as well as a clinician guide to understanding multidisciplinary approach to the Breast cancer patient. This is an ideal guide for gynecologists, obstetricians, radiologists, and internists working in women’s health.

Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive description of the screening and clinical applications of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and offers straightforward, clear guidance on use of the technique. Informative clinical cases are presented to illustrate how to take advantage of DBT in clinical practice. The importance of DBT as a diagnostic tool for both screening and diagnosis is increasing rapidly. DBT improves upon mammography by depicting breast tissue on a video clip made of cross‐sectional images reconstructed in correspondence with their mammographic planes of acquisition. DBT results in markedly reduced summation of overlapping breast tissue and offers the potential to improve mammographic breast cancer surveillance and diagnosis. This book will be an excellent practical teaching guide for beginners and a useful reference for more experienced radiologists.

Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive guide to contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM), a novel advanced mammography technique using dual-energy mammography in combination with intravenous contrast administration in order to increase the diagnostic performance of digital mammography. Readers will find helpful information on the principles of CEM and indications for the technique. Detailed attention is devoted to image interpretation, with presentation of case examples and highlighting of pitfalls and artifacts. Other topics to be addressed include the establishment of a CEM program, the comparative merits of CEM and MRI, and the roles of CEM in screening populations and monitoring of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. CEM became commercially available in 2011 and is increasingly being used in clinical practice owing to its superiority over full-field digital mammography. This book will be an ideal source of knowledge and guidance for all who wish to start using the technique or to learn more about it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in women and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in American women. Although cardiovascular-related deaths significantly outnumber breast cancer deaths, breast cancer is arguably the most feared diagnosis among American women. Great strides have been made to heighten public awareness of breast cancer, with particular emphasis on early detection with mammography. Breast radiologists regularly witness the extreme anxiety that just the thought of being diagnosed with breast cancer can cause a patient. This anxious anticipation is often heightened by a lack of knowledge about what to expect from the process of breast imaging evaluation, which is frustrating for both patient and practitioner and can negatively affect the experience. Physicians often encounter patients who have little or no understanding of the reasoning behind the examination or procedure about to be performed-sometimes even up to the day of their breast cancer surgery. Furthermore, most women who undergo breast evaluations will not be diagnosed with cancer. The incidence of breast cancer is only 125.3 per 100,000 women (or 3-6 in every 1,000 screenings), however, symptoms of benign breast abnormalities are quite common and impact many more lives. Accurately diagnosing these non-cancerous conditions can alleviate much anxiety, in addition to helping patients towards a correct treatment plan. The Breast Test Book is a straightforward guide to the process of radiologic breast evaluations. Based on the most current scientific research and best standards of clinical practice, it will help debunk myths, shed light on misinformation, and provide clear facts about what women should expect from these screenings. This improved understanding will ultimately allow patients to play more active roles in their own care and, in the event that a diagnosis is made, give them confidence in their treatment.
