Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Concept Of Right And Duties Is Perhaps As Old As The Civilization. Whether Entitled Under Specific Provisions Or Names, Mankind Has Always Enjoyed Certain Basic Freedom And Rights. The Extent And The Proportion Of These Rights Enjoyed By The People Has Never Been Universally Uniform. It Varied From Time To Time, Place To Place, Person To Person Depending Upon The Prevailing Politico-Religious And Cultural Settings And Situations Of The Time. The Idea Of Rights And Duties Has Grown Alongwith The Growth Of Civilization. In Present Times It Has Under-Gone Metamorphism, Encompassing All Kind Of Rights, Ensuring The Welfare And Dignity Of Human Beings, Transgressing All Kind Of Boundaries: Physical Territorial, Religious, Political, Cultural, Gender, Colour Or Race. Today The Idea Of Human Rights Has Gained Such A Momentum That Every Nation-State Guarantees Certain Basic Rights To Its Citizens To Ensure Their Individual And Collective Well Being. Despite Such Guarantees, There Is Exploitation, Discrimination And Violation Of Basic Human Rights. The Reality Is That It Is The Woman Who Is Discriminated, Exploited And Denied Such Freedom And Privileges, Which Are Available To Their Counterpart. This Situation Is More Grave And Pathetic In Developing Countries Particularly Afro-Asian Countries. The Study Analyses The Human Rights With Respect To Women In India. It Analyses The 0Nature And Kind Of Violations Of Basic Rights And Freedoms To Which Indian Women Are Subjected To Despite The Constitutional Provisions And Guarantees. It Also Looks Into Factors Responsible For The Violation Of Human Rights In Case Of Indian Women And The Possible Remedies. Book excerpt: As an instrument which addresses the circumstances which affect women's lives and enjoyment of rights in a diverse world, the CEDAW is slowly but surely making its mark on the development of international and national law. Using national case studies from South Asia, Southern Africa, Australia, Canada and Northern Europe, Women's Human Rights examines the potential and actual added value of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in comparison and interaction with other equality and anti-discrimination mechanisms. The studies demonstrate how state and non-state actors have invoked, adopted or resisted the CEDAW and related instruments in different legal, political, economic and socio-cultural contexts, and how the various international, regional and national regimes have drawn inspiration and learned from each other.

It cuts across cultural and religious barriers, impeding the right of women to participate fully in society. Violence against women takes a dismaying variety of forms from domestic abuse and rate to child marriages and female circumcision. All are violations of the most fundamental human rights. Raising awareness of the issue of violence against women and educating boys and men to view women as valuable partners in life, in the development of a society and in the attainment of peace are just as important as taking legal steps to protect women s human rights.

In one side she is treated as a goddess just like goddess in several forms like Kanya, Laxmi, Durga, Parvati, Sarsvati, Mata etc. Almost everywhere mother is still respectable, in many families daughters gets respect as a Kanya but in other hand they are victimized everywhere; at home she has to face domestic violence, gender discrimination and blame on character. Sometimes she faces physical abashment or raped by her relative or on the public places. A woman may be 6 months old or 80 years old doesn't matter, they are unsafe at work place, public place even at home. So to face these all situations women have to become more strong, aware and united.

Book excerpt: This book provides a critical history of influential women in the United Nations and seeks to inspire empowerment with role models from bygone eras. The women whose voices this book presents helped shape UN conventions, declarations, and policies with relevance to the international human rights of women throughout the world today. From the founding of the UN up until the Latin American feminist movements that pushed for gender equality in the UN Charter, and the Security Council Resolutions on the role of women in peace and conflict, the volume reflects on how women delegates from different parts of the world have negotiated and disagreed on human rights issues related to gender within the UN throughout time. In doing so it sheds new light on how these hidden historical narratives enrich theoretical studies in international relations and global agency today. In view of contemporary feminist and postmodern critiques of the origin of human rights, uncovering women’s history of the United Nations from both Southern and Western perspectives allows us to consider questions of feminism and agency in international relations afresh. With contributions from leading scholars and practitioners of law, diplomacy, history, and development studies, and brought together by a theoretical commentary by the Editors, Women and the UN will appeal to anyone whose research covers human rights, gender equality, international development, or the history of civil society. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rights of men and women are the same but because of certain situational factors it is imperative to discuss the women's human rights separately. There are several reasons behind this: first, women are representing almost half of the world's population; secondly, women are discriminated throughout the world in different spheres and at different stages; thirdly, women are supposed to carry out some special functions, therefore they needed human rights separately. Gender injustice taking the shape of crimes against women has escalated all over the world and India is not exception to this. Despite the fact that the Indian mythology placed women on a very high pedestal, deterioration in this glorious status suffered a socio- cultural setback resulting in loss of their freedom and decline in their personality. Despite the social reform movement in the 19th century arousing considerable awakening, constitutional and legal provisions aimed at preventing discrimination, positive judicial trends, welfare schemes and activism of voluntary sector, women continue to suffer - from increasing tide of violence both in and outside homes. Question of gender justice is not a communal question or a question teaching any particular religion it is a social question having humanist contents. Political democracy is never complete without social democracy and the human society which keeps fifty percent of its population under social servility can never hope to prosper. However, in the sphere of women's human rights in India, there exists a wide gap between theory and practice. Indian Constitution has granted equal rights to women like men and several laws have been enacted by successive governments to realize the goal of gender equality, but the ground reality is different in actual terms. In real life treatment to women is based on biases and discriminations. Their condition is deplorable in the country. Very often they have to face discrimination, injustice and dishonour. Discrimination against the girl child starts the moment she enters into the mother's womb.
