Book Synopsis W.M.Thackery and the Mediated Text by : Richard Pearson
Download or read book W.M.Thackery and the Mediated Text written by Richard Pearson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: Thackeray's "minor writings" remain caught in a debate about what constitutes "literature" and whether magazine writing and journalism might be construed as such. This debate was present during the inception of the mass periodical press in the 1830s when Thackeray began his career and forms part of the context of, reasoning within, and techniques of Thackeray's work. Throughout his career, Thackeray was enmeshed in critical arguments about periodicals, novels, "realism" and commercialism. He was himself both (and neither) journalist and literary artist and was at once a product of and critical of emerging writing practices. This book argues that an understanding of Thackeray's writings for periodicals and the literary and commercial context of these is central to an understanding of his literary achievement. Focusing principally on the foundational part of his career, from 1833-1847, but relating this to the novels, particularly "Pendennis" and "The Adventures of Philip" and the "Cornhill Magazine" of the 1860s, the book explores Thackeray's ambiguous response to the burgeoning periodical press, and considers his negotation and critique of the market-place through a variety of publishing media.

Book Synopsis Bourdieu for Educators by : Fenwick W. English
Download or read book Bourdieu for Educators written by Fenwick W. English and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educational change and reform on a larger scale Bourdieu for Educators: Policy and Practice, brings the revolutionary research and thinking of Pierre Bourdieu (1930[en]2002) of France to public educational leaders in North America, Canada, Australia, and the U.K. This text brings Bourdieu’s corpus into the arena of elementary and secondary educational reform and change, and offers policy, research, and practice discussions. Authors Fenwick W. English and Cheryl L. Bolton use Bourdieu to challenge the standards movement in different countries, the current vision of effective management, and the open market notion connecting pay to performance. The text shows that connecting pay to performance won’t improve education for the poorest group of school students in the U.S., Canada, or the U.K., regardless of how much money is spent trying to erase the achievement gap. The authors layout the bold educational agenda of Pierre Bourdieu by demonstrating that educational preparation must take into account larger socioeconomic-political realities in order for educational change and reform to make an impact.

Book Synopsis The Lovable Antichrist by : Carol Drake Wheatley
Download or read book The Lovable Antichrist written by Carol Drake Wheatley and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-10-25 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered how the very elect of God will be deceived? Have you ever imagined it could actually happen to you? Well, it has! The Lovable Antichrist is a warning from God to His elect. It will help you identify the antichrist(s) in your life and why they are lovable to you. It identifies some of the myths and deceptions that have crept (and even boldly marched) into the church. These teachings have solidly established themselves as mainstay doctrines, almost replacing the gospel as it was once preached. The modern church is in a degraded condition and weakened to a point that many do not even know how to draw upon God’s power in challenging situations. Because we live in an age of grace, we’ve been given the freedom to create this convoluted mess, but we’ve also been given the latitude and knowledge to fix it. The Lovable Antichrist is more than just a wake-up call from the Lord; it is a warning and a solution. We are facing a difficult future when “church as usual” won’t cut it for Christians. We’re going to have to overcome challenges in which only God’s word and God’s way will work. It is imperative that we learn to walk in the truths of the Bible. It is imperative that we heed this warning!
