Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using humor and frank candor, author Bacil Donovan Warren shares his personal experience, as well as that of his fellow tankers, as part of the US Army's 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment (the "Brave Rifles") in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Warren recounts the initial shock of hearing about Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and his Regiment's preparation for deployment during Operation Desert Shield. He describes the stress and sometimes mind-numbing boredom of being deployed deep in the desert of Saudi Arabia, constantly preparing for a possible Iraqi invasion. He recalls the terrifying experience of the start of the air war of Operation Desert Storm and the workmanlike action during combat against Iraq's Republican Guard forces during Operation Desert Sabre. With It or in It brings clarity and focus to their unceasing efforts to bring the conflict to a swift and decisive end. Finally, Warren describes the triumphant return of the Brave Rifles to Ft. Bliss, Texas, and the waiting arms of their families and loved ones.

Book Synopsis Liturgical Theology Revisited by : Stephen Edmondson
Download or read book Liturgical Theology Revisited written by Stephen Edmondson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Something happens at the eucharistic table. When Jesus' story meets Jesus' presence, Jesus happens there, and the hungry are fed. Christians' beliefs--that they believe and what they believe--are formed by Jesus happening. This book explores the theology inscribed on communities through their encounter with Jesus at the table. It begins with the theology of radical grace embodied in the invitation of everyone, baptized or not, to the table, and it addresses from this vantage the whole of the Christian life: the truth of Jesus, the work of the Spirit, the significance of baptism, and the integrity and mission of the church.
Book Synopsis Cholera, Chloroform, and the Science of Medicine by : Peter Vinten-Johansen
Download or read book Cholera, Chloroform, and the Science of Medicine written by Peter Vinten-Johansen and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The product of six years of collaborative research, this fine biography offers new interpretations of a pioneering figure in anesthesiology, epidemiology, medical cartography, and public health. It modifies the conventional rags to riches portrait of John Snow by synthesizing freshinformation about his early life from archival research and recent studies. It explores the intellectual roots of his commitments to vegetarianism, temperance, and pure drinking water, first developed when he was a medical apprentice and assistant in the north of England. The authors argue thatall of Snow's later contributions are traceable to the medical paradigm he imbibed as a medical student in London and put into practice early in his career as a clinician: that medicine as a science required the incorporation of recent developments in its collateral sciences--chiefly anatomy, chemistry, and physiology--in order to understand the causes of disease. Snow's theoretical breakthroughs in anesthesia were extensions of his experimental research in respiratory physiology and the properties of inhaled gases. Shortly thereafter, his understanding of gas laws led him to rejectmiasmatic explanations for the spread of cholera, and to develop an alternative theory in consonance with what was then known about chemistry and the physiology of digestion. Using all of Snow's writings, the authors follow him when working in his home laboratory, visiting patients throughoutLondon, attending medical society meetings, and conducting studies during the cholera epidemics of 1849 and 1854. The result is a book that demythologizes some overly heroic views of Snow by providing a fairer measure of his actual contributions. It will have an impact not only on theunderstanding of the man but also on the history of epidemiology and medical science.

This book presents a number of new trends and theories in the direction in which we believe software science and engineering may develop to transform the role of software and science in tomorrow’s information society. This publication is an attempt to capture the essence of a new state of art in software science and its supporting technology. Download or read book Under Attack written by Edward Olsen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A firsthand account of living and surviving in a haunted house. It was during the 1960's, lasting about three long years, beginning when I was 9 years old. My recently widowed mother was a sensitive and because she understood what was happening, was able to keep us safe. There really are things that some would call demons. There are other entities as well, not always hostile. Sometimes seen, sometimes heard. Sometimes doing more than that. They don't interact the same with everyone. I'll show you some of the things they do, how they can affect you as they did me and my family. Why they do what they do, I don't know. It can just be bumps in the night, or they can drive you into depression or insanity. They can make you sick and they can physically hurt you, or worse. Understanding what is going on can be the key to survival. My book doesn't have all the answers, but it may provide insight for the thoughtful reader. It is written in the hope that it will be of some use to someone who needs it.
