Book excerpt: Every witch has a story that begins with the unexpected! Part One: Tanglewood Origins Alexandria, Egypt, 30 AD In this action-packed, enemies-to-lovers romance, the last thing Alena expects is to be hauled out of bed by an Egyptian soldier and tossed into a stone cell. Then Orpheus steps from the shadows. The rake who once almost tricked her into his bed is suddenly her partner in a forced mission: to find a celestial weapon promised to Cleopatra. Orpheus never expected to meet anyone like Alena, let alone to deceive her. Could their immediate connection be due to a common secret-- ancestral magic? To survive this game of the gods, he'll have to earn her trust again and heal old wounds before it's too late. The biggest surprise? Surviving their quest is just the beginning. Part 2: Her Dragon Guardian Growing up in the Garden of Hesperides, Medea has never wanted for anything. But she and her sisters Circe and Isis have quickly exceeded their parents' magical abilities, fueled by the power of the Tanglewood, a mysterious tree that sprouted the day they were born. Desperate to expand their mystical knowledge, together they conjure a golden grimoire, the most powerful magical text in existence. Now, even paradise can't provide the one thing Medea wants most, privacy to practice her advanced magic. To get it, she'll break the rules... and come face to face with the handsome dragon who guards the gate. The Tanglewood Witches is an action-packed duet of paranormal romance novellas and a prequel to the Treasure of Paragon Series, perfect for fans of witch and dragon shifter romance.

Book excerpt: This book that addresses some of the questions often asked of a uniquely diverse culture and of its beliefs in sorcery, or Sanguma as it is colloquially known in PNG. At the same time the book attempts to bring to light the increasing problems associated with this evil phenomenon: accusations of sorcery and witchcraft, witch hunts, trials, torture, and brutal killings. PNG people, whether illiterate or educated, urban or rural, are not satisfied with merely natural explanations for bad events. This deep hunger for "the real answer" will continue to give rise to accusations of sorcery, with all their deadly consequences. The fact that it is embedded in our traditional belief system shows that we are dealing not only with the specific issue of sorcery and witchcraft but with the traditional belief system of the whole community and/or clan. As a result, it is going to be difficult to get rid of the phenomenon of sorcery. This edition of Point 33 is the second volume of a two-piece dissemination from a five year research project into sorcery and witchcraft in Papua New Guinea carried out by the Melanesian Institute from 2003 to 2007. This book comprises seven chapters outlining a detailed, more investigative report from Mekeo and Roro (Central Province), the Kuanua language speakers (Gazelle Peninsula, East New Britain Province), Plains Arapesh and sections of the East Sepik Province, Induna and Bwaidoga (Goodenough, Milne Bay Province), K'te (in Finschafen, Morobe Province) and the Kuman- Golin-Siane language speakers (Simbu Province) on the phenomena of sorcery and witchcraft. These groups of people were chosen on the basis of three major criteria: That different culture areas be well represented; that these cultures had already been studied to allow for comparisons over some time, that Christianity had been in those areas for different lengths of time. They finally represented three major Christian denominations.

Book excerpt: This is the first complete and accessible English translation of two major source texts—Tinctor’s Invectives and the anonymous Recollectio—that arose from the notorious Arras witch hunts and trials in the mid-fifteenth century in France. These writings, by the “Anonymous of Arras” (believed to be the trial judge Jacques du Bois) and the intellectual Johannes Tinctor, offer valuable eyewitness perspectives on one of the very first mass trials and persecutions of alleged witches in European history. More importantly, they provide a window onto the early development of witchcraft theory and demonology in western Europe during the late medieval period—an entire generation before the infamous Witches’ Hammer appeared. Perfect for the classroom, The Arras Witch Treatises includes a reader-friendly introduction situating the treatises and trials in their historical and intellectual contexts. Scholars, students, and others interested in the occult will find these translations invaluable.

Book excerpt: An Exploration of the Traditional Witchcraft Coven, its Organization and Rituals, including Initiations, Rites of Passage, Magical and Social practices. The truth is, “Old” Gerald B. Gardner had little interest in how the Traditional Witchcraft Coven had been organized and structured. So apart from an example of how it should not be done, he passed on little information about how it was meant to be organized. That knowledge of how best to organize and structure a modern Coven has had to be reclaimed from the old records and by trial and error. So too the social Rites of Passage; those of birth, marriage and death that were all long since appropriated by the religious authorities have likewise needed to be restored. As too the traditional forms of Coven Magic and Healings, whilst still keeping Witchcraft ever the religion of Dance, Fun and Mirth. After all, who said that religion is not to be enjoyed? A Witches’ Canon, Part 1, provides a fact-based referenced guide for those wishing to further explore the Religion and Celebratory Rituals of Traditional Wicca. A Witches’ Canon, Part 2, has been written to provide a practical, referenced guide to the social aspects of Traditional Wicca; of Coven Organization, Initiations, Rites and Rituals. A Witches’ Canon, Part 3, is a fact-based referenced guide to the practice of Magical Witchcraft, both nice and naughty. If it isn’t fun, then it ain’t worth doing.

From the Salem witch trials to modern day Wicca; from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to the Harry Potter phenomenon and beyond, Gibson's engaging and accessible approach provides new energy and perspective on classical and contemporary witchcraft history, portrayal, and mythos. This fresh viewpoint coupled with a careful examination of the meaning of witchcraft to the evolution of women's rights and empowerment, makes this book essential in understanding the role witchcraft has played in American social and cultural history.".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Witchcraft violence is a feature of many contemporary African societies. In Ghana, belief in witchcraft and the malignant activities of putative witches is prevalent. Purported witches are blamed for all manner of adversities including inexplicable illnesses and untimely deaths. As in other historical periods and other societies, in contemporary Ghana, alleged witches are typically female, elderly, poor, and marginalized. Childhood socialization in homes and schools, exposure to mass media, and other institutional mechanisms ensure that witchcraft beliefs are transmitted across generations and entrenched over time. This book provides a detailed account of Ghanaian witchcraft beliefs and practices and their role in fueling violent attacks on alleged witches by aggrieved individuals and vigilante groups.
