Es gibt eine Vielzahl von Instrumenten, die eine Organisation einsetzen kann, um das Engagement und die Motivation Ihrer Mitarbeiter zu fördern. Bspw. mit Förderung der Kommunikation durch Mitspracherecht oder durch die Übertragung von Aufgaben erhöhter Verantwortung. Ein häufig angewandtes Mittel ist die Zuzahlung einer variablen Lohnkomponente. Leistungsorientiertes Entlohnen wird zunehmend auch für untere Hierarchieebenen als Motivationsmöglichkeit eingesetzt. Das Konzept eines variablen Lohnanteiles ist nur dann mit einer Motivations- und Leistungssteigerung bei den Empfängern und letztendlich mit einer Erfolgssteigerung bei der Organisation in Verbindung zu bringen, wenn die Grundvoraussetzungen dieses motivationalen Instrumentes bekannt sind und beachtet werden. Hierbei ist die Motivation nicht als Selbstzweck zu sehen, sondern als Mittel, die Beschäftigten zu einer effizienteren Arbeitsleistung zu Gunsten des Unternehmens zu veranlassen. Verschiedene Motivationstheorien bekannter Wissenschaftler zeigen, aus welchen Beweggründen heraus eine variable Vergütungskomponente die Motivation der Mitarbeiter fördert. Hierbei werden empirische Erkenntnisse dargelegt und eine Antwort auf die Eingangsfrage gegeben.

General Aspects: The Achievement Motivation Inventory (AMI) is a personality inventory designed to measure a broad construct of work related achievement motivation. It is founded on the theoretical work related to the German «Leistungsmotivationsinventar (LMI)» (Schuler & Prochaska, 2001) and enables users to test candidates for 17 different facets of achievement motivation. The theoretical conception of this test is based upon all common conceptualizations of the construct but for the first time integrates relevant social motives into a test measuring the construct of achievement motivation as well. Thus, in addition to traditional scales, e.g. Confidence in Success or Persistance, scales like Dominance or Status Orientation are integrated in the AMI. The AMI consists of 170 items to be responded by examinees on a 7-point-Likert format. Reliability: Reliability (Cronbach`s alpha) for the total score is α = .96 and ranges from α = .66 to α = .83 for single scales. Retest reliability is rtt = .94 for the total score and ranges from rtt = .71 to rtt = .89 for single scales.

The techniques employed in such analysis first took on a recognizably modern form in the 1970s, but their roots go back to the earliest days of motion picture technology in the late nineteenth century. This book presents original essays accompanied by written responses which together create a dialogue exploring early efforts at audio-visual sequence analysis and their common goal to capture the "whole" of the communicative situation. The first three chapters of this volume look at the film-based research of Gestalt psychologists in Berlin as well as psychologists in the orbit of Karl and Charlotte Bühler in Vienna in the first decades of the twentieth century. Most of these figures – along with many other Central European scholars of this era – were driven into exile in the United States after the rise of National Socialism in the 1930s. This scientific migration led to the cross-pollination of communication studies in America, an outcome visible in the leading project in interaction research of the mid-twentieth century, the Natural History of an Interview. The following two chapters examine this project in its historical context. The volume closes with a critical edition of a treasure from the archives: the transcript of a speech delivered by Ray Birdwhistell, a key participant in the Natural History of an Interview project and founder of kinesics.
