Griffin was first African American to be elected to the Georgia State Senate from the Twenty-fifth legislative district, an area with a majority of white voters. In 1998 Griffin was candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. In 2002, Griffin continued to do what political experts said was impossible by becoming the first African American mayor of the Old Capitol City of Georgia, Milledgeville. At different times in his life, Floyd Griffin has been a cadet, Vietnam Helicopter Pilot, Army Colonel, football coach, professor, businessman, state senator and mayor. Throughout his life of change and challenges, Floyd Griffin has always been dedicated to public service. In 1994, Griffin did what political experts said was impossible. He literally stormed onto the political scene and defeated an incumbent Georgia State Senator. The victory made Griffin the first African American in modern times to be elected in a rural legislature district containing a majority of white voters. In 2000, Griffin continued to do what political experts said was impossible by becoming the first African American mayor of the Old Capitol City of Milledgeville, GA. The Honorable Floyd Griffin served as Senator of Georgia’s Twenty-fifth District for two terms. In the Georgia Senate, Griffin was Chairman of the Interstate Cooperation Committee and served on the Defense and Veteran’s Affairs, Health and Human Services, Higher Education, Local and State government operations and the powerful Rules committees. In 1998, Griffin was candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. His candidacy for Lieutenant Governor made him the first African American to run for that office in modern times. Griffin was elected Mayor of the city of Milledgeville for the term 2002–2006. He was the sixty-seventh Mayor to serve. Former Mayor Griffin served on the Board of Directors of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Alexandria, VA. In 1967, he entered the United States army. In Vietnam, Griffin served as a helicopter pilot, instructor pilot, aviation platoon leader and commander of a construction engineer company. After combat service he commanded an engineer battalion under General Norman Schwarzkopf, then served on the Army Staff at the Pentagon and was later promoted to the rank of colonel. Floyd Griffin has also worked as an educator. At Wake Forest University he served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science. He was the director of ROTC at Winston-Salem State University, where he coached the football team’s backfield as they won two conservative college championships. Griffin has served as a part-time instructor at the Georgia College and State University School of Business. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOU and I were born to WIN! Nowhere in our universe does it say that you are a loser. The Bible says that you are "The Apple of God's Eye". God has made you to ride upon the high places of the earth. You deserve the very BEST that our Father has to offer. He wants you to be a "Winner" and to have an abundant life filled with joy. He wants YOU to be happy, healthy, and wise. YOU are the BEST product that the Father has ever produced! You were created in His image and in His class. As a Winner, you expect to win! WINNERS have plans. LOSERS have excuses. WINNERS find the answer. LOSERS seek out the problem. WINNERS are part of the answer. LOSERS are normally the problem. WINNERS say that it is highly possible. LOSERS say that it is definitely impossible. Losers are complainers and whiners. Winners are positive. Each human being is born as a brand new creation.someone who has never existed before.with the capacity to win in life.each person having a unique way of seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, thinking, and doing things. Each has her own unique potentials, capabilities, and limitations. Each is a significant and creative being.creation of God.a real winner. Most people are not 100% winners or 100% losers. We all have "bad hair" days. I have no hair. So, as you can see, I have seen a few bad hair days in my time. However, once a person is on the road to winning, her chances of continuing to win in the game of life are tremendous. Winners have different potentials. Winners do their own thinking. They think for themselves. Winners never play the "helpless" game.nor do they play the "blame" game. They play to win. They assume responsibility for their own lives. Winners are able to love and be loved. Winners have a zest and passion for life. They have energy! They have passion for the things in which they believe. Winners care about the world, the earth, and the environment. They are not isolated from the general concerns of society, but they are concerned and compassionate about improving the quality of life. Winners want to make the world a better place and enjoy life to its fullest! Furthermore, as you are blessed as a Winner, you will have an APPRECIATION for others and a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. You will make commitments and have good communication with others. You will have a greater LOVE, SENSITIVITY, and COMPASSION for others. Your SENSE of HUMOR, PATIENCE, and TOLERANCE for the weaknesses in others will expand. Regardless of where you are in your walk on Planet Earth, being a winner will make you feel good about yourself. You will begin to expand your goals and your horizons. You will invest in your mind and spirit by studying inspirational and motivational books, CDs, and DVDs. Attending the Church of your choice will be very important to you. You will spend quality time with quality people. As a Winner, you will use your time wisely and you will be TEACHABLE. YOU were created to be a "Winner". YOU were made for GREATNESS. You were made to soar like an eagle.not like a chicken in the barnyard eating chicken feed with the hogs. YOU were made for excellence and style. Winning is now part of your life. YOU were created to rule and reign with Christ while on earth.and later in heaven. YOU shall eat in PLENTY and be SATISFIED. You have become a winner because you belong to the family of God. Abundance is YOURS. You will not lack. The Lord is your Shepherd. God has been GOOD to you. He will never let you down. You will never be put to shame (Rom.10:11). God loves you unconditionally. You were born to win. For centuries, "He who had the gold made the rules". That does not work anymore on a permanent basis. Some of the possessors of the gold have gone blind from the glare of their own self-brilliance and self-importance.

Itis written for high potential HR emerging executives who want to accelerate their effectiveness and business impact, and for the bosses, peers, colleagues, friends, coaches, mentors, and teachers who want to assist them in doing so. Centered around three critical and complementary aspects of the role, this book explores leadership philosophy, HR's evolving role in today's organizations, and the future of HR and effective organizations to help emerging HR leaders find and establish their place in the field. The interplay between leadership and HR competencies is clearly laid out, and lessons learned from CHROs and other HR leaders, as well as academic thought leaders, form the basis of authoritative coverage of crucial components of effective HR leadership, now and in the future. The discussion simplifies the relationship between business strategy and human capital strategy; balances the "what," "who," and "when" of HR leader development, and explores the themes, trends, and implications emerging in the HR field. You'll learn how to lead change, master the art of the question, build leadership and talent, create a performance culture, understand Boardroom dynamics, and learn tips and techniques from over one hundred of the very best HR leaders. The book begins with a comprehensive self-assessment, and each chapter ends with a self-assessment specific to that chapter. Also, a wealth of tools and checklists are included to help you start immediately applying what you've learned. HR leaders are under more pressure than ever to deliver high quality people-related solutions quickly and effectively, but they often don't have the broad foundational experience and perspective to effectively do so. This book provides the solution in the form of comprehensive examination and practical implementation of the critical components of the HR leadership role. Develop a personal leadership philosophy, and behaviors for success Embody the changing HR role to make people and organizations more effective Ask the right questions and effectively engage other leaders Create a performance-driven culture and anticipate critical resistance points Anticipate and prepare for the future of work, organizations, and HR to ensure you remain relevant Today's organizations demand a broader array of cross-functional and cross-organizational perspectives to address complex multi-dimensional challenges and orchestrate practical solutions. Twelve-year-old Olivia Hales has a foolproof plan for winning a million dollars so that she and her little sister, Berkeley, can leave behind Sunny Pines Trailer Park. But first she has to: · Fix the swamp cooler and make dinner and put Berkeley to bed because her mom is too busy to do all that · Write another letter to her dad even though he hasn’t written back yet · Teach Berk the important stuff, like how to make chalk drawings, because they can’t afford day care and Olivia has to stay home from school to watch her · Petition her oddball neighbors for a circus spectacular, because there needs to be something to look forward to at dumb-bum Sunny Pines · Become a super-secret spy to impress her new friend Bart · Enter a minimum of fourteen sweepstakes a day. Who knows? She may already be a winner! Olivia has thought of everything . . . except herself. Who will take care of her when she needs it? Luckily, somewhere deep down between her small intestine and stomach is a tiny voice reminding her that sometimes people can surprise you—and sometimes your family is right next door.
