Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cliff Etheredge was born in Roscoe, Texas on September 21, 1942, to Pete and Hilda Etheredge. He had one brother, Jay. Cliff graduated from Roscoe High School and Texas Tech University. He then began farming with his dad in the Wastella community northwest of Roscoe. He was a member of the Texas National Guard for six years. In 1972, Cliff was severely injured in a farming accident resulting in the amputation of his right arm. He understood that attitude would determine success or failure. He has since spent his life overcoming the myriad of obstacles that have presented themselves daily. Reentry into society was a major step in Cliff's rehabilitation. He not only assumed his place in society but also became a prominent figure. He also developed the process of self-forgiveness, which gave him confidence. In 1975, Cliff married Judy, who brought two children, David and Kim, to his home on the farm. Son Scott was born in 1978. As the children grew, Cliff devoted himself more and more to his family, and each excelled in his or her area of interest. Cliff was a member of many local and regional organizations, holding leadership roles in most. In 1968, Cliff was selected Mitchell County Young Farmer of the Year, and Texas Governor John Connally presented him with the Texas Young Farmer Award. Cliff was also a recipient of Roscoe's Outstanding Citizen Award. Texas Governor Rick Perry presented him with the Individual Award from the Texas Council on Environmental Quality for his efforts in organizing the Roscoe Wind Farm. Cliff lives in San Antonio with his wife, Ann, where he is a member of Business and Professional Toastmasters. Most of his interests and efforts have been toward completing three books he began writing in 2003 to accompany the two he completed several years ago.

Download or read book Nighthawk's Wing written by Charles Fergus and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-02-16 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ** "Set in 1836, Fergus’s superior sequel . . . brings the period to life as he expertly melds setting and plot." Starred Publishers Weekly ** For Fans of Madeline Miller and Geraldine Brooks, and Historical Mysteries Involving Witchcraft, Second Sight, and Amish, Mennonite, and Pennsylvania Dutch Communities. In this thrilling second in the Gideon Stoltz Mystery series that Booklist called “An appealing debut that deserves a boost from enthusiastic hand-sellers,” it’s now 1836 in the fast-growing town of Adamant. The young Pennsylvania Dutch sheriff Gideon has a new case when a beautiful woman—suspected of witchcraft and residing in a nearby German settlement—is murdered. Suffering from a head injury after a fall off his horse, Gideon can’t recall anything that happened at the time of the woman’s death. As flashes of memory return, he realizes that not only did he know the victim, he was with her the night she died. As Gideon delves into the investigation, he must include himself in the list of suspects. When Gideon uncovers another dead body, he’s launched on a path to discover the truth, no matter the outcome. Gideon’s estranged wife, True, has her own reluctant methods of investigation. Gifted with unwelcome powers of second sight, True realizes that her husband’s life is in danger—and puts her own life on the line to save him. Nighthawk’s Wing unflinchingly examines the oppressed status of women in the 1830 and like the first in the series, it has “an atmospheric setting and a strong sense of place” (Library Journal). Nighthawk’s Wing beckons all readers who crave authenticity in early American historical novels, including those intrigued by witchcraft, spells, and visions. This compelling mystery glides along the edge between the gritty reality of the early 1800s and —a parallel world of spirits and haunted souls.

Book Synopsis The Knife Slipped by : Erle Stanley Gardner
Download or read book The Knife Slipped written by Erle Stanley Gardner and published by Titan Books (US, CA). This book was released on 2016-12-06 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lost for more than 75 years, The Knife Slipped was meant to be the second book in the series, but shelved when Gardner’s publisher objected to (among other things) Bertha Cool’s tendency to “talk tough, swear, smoke cigarettes, and try to gyp people.” But this tale of adultery and corruption, of double-crosses and triple identities—however shocking for 1939—shines today as a glorious present from the past, a return to the heyday of private eyes and shady dames, of powerful criminals, crooked cops, blazing dialogue, and delicious plot twists. Donald Lam has never been cooler—not even when played by Frank Sinatra on the U.S. Steel Hour of Mystery in 1946. Bertha Cool has never been tougher. And Erle Stanley Gardner has never been better.
Download or read book Bloodwork written by Nathan Redman and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Jesuit poet once wrote, "If my God is a God of Light ? it is a Dark Light." Blood Work consists of unconventional and highly personal poems in the spirit of William Blake and Charles Williams. Their unitive theme is the Metaphysical Poets' unique conceptualization of the human soul as having blood. Subjects range from transcendent beauty and apotheosis to intense personal agony and frustrated creativity. Though varied, these heavily allusive and strangely imagist pieces attempt to convey ? as Donne did masterfully in his Holy Sonnet XIV ? that Love can suffer the worst violence, and be, itself, the most violent force of transformation. Blood Work is the humble first offering of Nathan Redman, a young person whose primary pursuit in life is to be a man of Christian integrity. His secondary pursuit is to write poetry that might in some way "open a door of speech to speak the Mystery of Christ" (Col. 4:3).
