Book excerpt: WINDFORCE: a voyage into the blue. By M.A.Hill Book two of The Travellers Trilogy 'You can't beat against the force of the wind forever - sometimes you must just run before the gale even though it may end in shipwreck.' Storms of the Indian Ocean course up the coast of Western Australia in winter - saltwater sailor and Master Mariner Gretta Finneson is on a desperate solo voyage in Vagabond, a vintage racing yacht. She must complete the passage to save a dolphin and whale watch charter in the pristine wildlife sanctuary at Shark Bay from development and destruction by powerful Chance Syndicates. Time and the odds are against her. The freedom of those who travel these trackless horizons of windswept oceans and the lonely outback is endangered, and it seems that failure is inevitable. Fellow Traveller, landscape artist Aidan Randell, cannot help her for he is tied to the fragile musician Zelina who is beset by floods and bushfires in her southern forest sanctuary. Adventurer, poet, and artist M.A. Hill is a unique voice in Australian literature, and she tells a powerful story that mirrors the relentless battle for the survival of our world's wild places. As the plot unravels in this second novel of The Travellers Trilogy, the diverse characters populate a landscape that is at once original yet familiar. The first novel, 'Trackless; a journey that follows no trails,' was praised as 'a compelling read' (Cockburn Gazette) 'a work of sheer literary genius' and 'one of the best books I've ever read.' The final tale, 'Setback: a passage through the dark,' will be released soon. If you read Tim Winton, you will enjoy the work of M.A.Hill. Her prose is lyrical, and her storytelling overlays many dimensions of reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one ever said coming back to life would be easy. Clair Maxwell didn’t ask to be resurrected, or to inherit the mind, body, and superpowers of her parallel self, but she’s not about to question such a miraculous gift. Even if it means carrying around memories that aren’t hers, even if it means living on a world not quite what she’s used to, even if it means learning how to be a superhero. She has her childhood sweetheart-turned-wife back, and a second chance at living. She has no intention of wasting it. But just as she’s walking down the aisle again, setting the last thing back the way it should be, her world is up-ended once more. An attack on her life throws everything into chaos. Surrounded by old foes and new secrets, suddenly everything Clair thought she knew about her past is in question. And now she’s forced to wonder just where Clair ends… and Amy begins.
Book Synopsis Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering II by : C.A. Brebbia
Download or read book Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering II written by C.A. Brebbia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises an edited version of the Proceedings of the 2nd Interna tional Conference on Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering which took place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA during August 1991. The Conference was organized by the Wessex Insti tute of Technology, Southampton, UK with the support of the International Society for Boundary Elements. The first International Conference on Ap plications of Supercomputers in Engineering held in Southampton, UK in September 1989 was a very successful meeting and the resulting Conference Proceedings are now widely distributed throughout the world. The revolutionary aspects of the next generation of computers are now fully recognised by many engineers and scientists. Vector and parallel computers form the basis of the computing power needed to address the complex prob lems with which engineers are faced. The new machines not only increase the size of the problems which can be solved, but also require a different computational approach to obtain the most efficient results.

Book Synopsis Wind and Wave Forcing of Longshore Currents Across a Barred Beach by : Dennis James Whitford
Download or read book Wind and Wave Forcing of Longshore Currents Across a Barred Beach written by Dennis James Whitford and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous investigations of longshore currents have included simplifying assumptions and restriction (such as a planar beach, a steady and depth uniform flow, spatially-variant bed shear stress and turbulent momentum exchange, and the exclusion of surface wind stress. These assumptions are quantitatively investigated by calculating the relative importance of each term in the longshore momentum balance with an emphasis on the relative importance of wind forcing across the barred nearshore. Wind and wave forcing of longshore currents across a barred beach are examined using both a numerical model and field measurements. A local momentum balance was measured at various locations across the surf zone during the SUPERDUCK experiment held at the USACE CERC Field Research Facility, Duck, N.C. in October 1986. A moveable sled was instrumented with pressure, current, and wind sensors to measure the various terms in the longshore momentum equation. Stability-dependent atmospheric drag coefficients for the surf zone are determined from wind stress measurements acquired just beyond the surf zone and wind speed measurements acquired from an anemometer atop the 9 m sled mast. Breaking waves were visually identified and electronically marked on the data tapes. Keywords: Ocean currents; Air water interactions; Nearshore surf zone; Wind stress; Theses. (EDC).
