This book was released on 1942 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combinations of an NACA 23012 tapered wing and a circular fuselage having a wedge-shaped rear were tested in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel to determine the effect of wing-fuselage interference on the lateral-stability of wing-fuselage interference on the lateral-stability characteristics. The model configurations represented a high-wing, a mid-wing, and a low-wing monoplane. For each configuration, tests were made with a partial-span split flap neutral and deflected 60 degrees and with and without a vertical tail. Tests of the fuselage alone and of the fuselage with the vertical tail were also made.

Book excerpt: Four N.A.C.A. 23012 wings were tested at several angles in the N.A.C.A. 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel. All the wings have rounded tips and, in plan form, one is rectangular and the others are tapered 3:1 with various amounts of sweep. Each wing was tested with two amounts of dihedral and with partial-span split flaps.

This book was released on 1939 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An N.A.C.A. 23012 rectangular wing with rounded tips was tested in combination with a fuselage of circular cross section at several angles of yaw in the N.A.C.A. 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel. The model was tested as a high-wing, a midwing, and a low-wing monoplane; for each wing location, tests were made with two amounts of dihedral and with partial-span split flaps. For each combination of wing and fuselage, tests were made with and without a fin. Sample charts of the coefficients of rolling moment, yawing moment, and lateral force are given for some of the combinations tested. THe rate of change in the coefficients with angle of yaw is given for stability calculation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model combinations of an NACA 23012 tapered wing and a circular fuselage were tested in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel to determine the effect of longitudinal wing position on the change in lateral stability due to interference. The aerodynamic center of the wing was located at approximately 80, 130, and 180 percent of the mean locations, the model was tested as a high-wing, a mid-wing, and a low-wing monoplane. For each conbination, testes were made with a partial-span split flap neutral and deflected 60 degrees and with and without a vertical tail. The rearmost low-wing combination was tested with and without a fillet.

Book excerpt: Tests were made in the LMAL 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the effect of a horizontal tail on the lateral stability characteristics of a high-wing, a mid-wing, and a low-wing monoplane. The model combinations consisted of a circular fuselage, an NACA 23012 tapered wing, and an NACA 0009 horizontal tail surface. Each wing-fuselage combination was tested with a partial-span split flap neutral and deflected 60 degrees and with and without a single vertical tail. Tests were also made of the fuselage with and without the tail surfaces.

This book was released on 1942 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique of testing wind-tunnel powered models has been developed as a result of experience gained in the investigation of the static longitudinal and lateral stability and control characteristics of several powered models in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel. As an important part of this technique, a minimum program of the tests considered necessary to specify satisfactorily the static stability and control characteristics for present-day airplanes has been tentatively established.

Book Synopsis High-Speed Wind-Tunnel Investigation of the Lateral Stability Characteristics of a 0. 10-Scale Model of the Grumman Xf9f-2 Airplane, Ted No. Naca De 30 by : Edward C. Polhamus

Polhamus and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the high-speed lateral and directional stability characteristics of a 0.10-scale model of the Grumman XF9F-2 airplane in the Mach number range from 0.40 to 0.85. The results indicate that static lateral and directional stability is present throughout the Mach number range investigated although in the Mach number range from 0.75 to 0.85 there is an appreciable decrease in rolling moment due to sideslip. Calculations of the dynamic stability indicate that according to current flying-quality requirements the damping of the lateral oscillation, although probably satisfactory for the sea-level condition, may not be satisfactory for the majority of the altitude conditions investigated.
