Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many athletes (and their parents) find the college recruiting process to be confusing, complex and difficult. They're not sure where to start or how to begin. If you're an athlete and want to play soccer at the college level, then you can't wait for coaches to come knocking at your door, or expect to be 'discovered.' According to the NCAA, only around 2% of athletes are actively recruited. College coaches want to hear from good players who are genuinely interested in their program. The most successful athletes are the ones who are pro-active and start marketing themselves early in high school to college coaches. Written by a soccer parent whose two daughters were successfully recruited to play D1 college soccer, this step-by-step guide provides a comprehensive game plan for players to get a college coach's attention. It also provides valuable information on all D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and NJCAA schools. With over 220 topics and questions covered in-depth; and over 1400 schools listed, this guide explains what a athlete needs to do to be successfully recruited, starting Freshman year in High School right through to Senior year. Some of the topics covered include: 1) What is the recruiting timeline for athletes? 2) What do College Coaches look for in a Recruit? 3) How to get started contacting College Coaches. 4) What to look for when visiting a college or university? 5) How to determine if a College Coach is really interested in you? 6) What turns College Coaches off a potential Recruit? 7) What to expect from your first contact with a College Coach? 8) How to write a great soccer resume to send to a coach. 9) What questions should I ask a College Coach? 10) What is the most important thing to consider when picking a school? 11) What are NCAA Recruiting Guidelines and why do I need to register with the NCAA? 12) When are Verbal Commitments usually made? 13) What to expect with Athletic Scholarships and how are they decided? 14) The importance of your high school transcripts and ACTs/SATs . 15) Do athletes receive support in admissions? 16) Should my parents play a role in my recruiting? 17) What is a National Letter of Intent and when do I sign one? 18) What are the differences in playing Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA or NJCAA soccer? 19) Playing High School vs. Club Soccer. 20) How to best benefit from College Recruiting Showcase Tournaments. 21) What to expect as a College soccer player? plus much more.....

Book excerpt: College sports in America represent a multibillion dollar industry. Recruiting collegiate student-athletes not only is costly for university teams, but is integral for their long-term success. Universities spend substantial amounts of money to recruit student-athletes, yet relatively little academic work has focused on understanding the athletic recruiting process. While NCAA policy regulates when communication is allowed between coaches and student-athletes, there is a lack of literature investigating what the communicative aspects of athletic recruiting entail. Thus, the purpose of this dissertation is to unpack the student-athlete experience of collegiate athletic recruitment. It builds on theoretical work from organizational and interpersonal communication, as well as management and marketing, to extend existing knowledge of student-athletes' college choice. Specifically, a conceptual model is presented that includes how student-athletes' expectations and relationships during athletic recruitment contribute to an overall affinity for the university that, in turn, influences choice. Thirty Division I student-athletes from six different sports participated in focus groups to discuss their recruitment experiences. Taking a grounded theory approach to the focus group transcripts, thematic analysis illuminated what was most memorable for student-athletes about their recruitment, what expectations they had for the process, and what relational benefits they sought when making their college choice decision. Findings reinforced the prominence of communication in the recruitment process, and indicated the importance of interpersonal relationships, authentic communication, and a customized recruiting experience. This work represents the start of a scholarly trajectory which will further conceptualize and test the relational elements of athletic recruiting. Future directions, as well as theoretical and practical implications, are discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visit My Website During my 20 years of involvement in youth soccer with both boys and girls teams, I am often asked by parents and players as they enter high school, what's the best way to get seen by college coaches and how to get scholarships. Before the youth soccer craze hit 15 - 20 years ago, not many high schools had quality soccer programs. Today most of the players on high school teams are probably club and travel soccer players, and presently there are many more high schools and colleges supporting soccer programs than ever before. This has been a good thing for college soccer programs because more and more skilled players are now available to recruit. There are even some premier clubs that tend to discourage or not allow their players to play high school soccer. There are mixed emotions about this, but it also depends on what level you are playing at. Many colleges in a regional area are now competing for the same players. If you are serious about playing college soccer, there may be several opportunities out there for you if you do the proper research and prepare in advance. Many fine young soccer players are overlooked each year because they didn't contact or submit their soccer resume to the right colleges, left out very important information, or waited until it was too late. It is also a fact that many colleges simply don't allocate all of their soccer recruiting funds because athletes didn't get in touch with them. 'SO YOU WANT TO PLAY COLLEGE SOCCER' will help the prospective college student-athlete with the process of researching, contacting and selecting a college that's right for them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: College recruitment can be very messy, and many conversations go on behind closed doors that students and families never learn about. Student-athletes are not recruited to play a sport; they are recruited to fill a role. One coach may see a recruit as a major contributor to their conference championship aspirations, and another may see that same athlete as a glorified backup - an insurance policy if the athletes they are investing most of their energy in experience an injury. Today's high school athlete is compiling an athletic resume to get invited for an "interview" for roles and jobs at colleges across the country. This book will help students assess where they are, where they want to go, and what it takes to get there. This book is for those who are willing to do the work necessary to get the best out of their college recruitment. It's about getting your sports resume to the top of the pile for a "job" you are qualified for; and how to interview well once that phone call comes. College recruitment is a game; to win the college recruitment game you have to know the game. That's where David Robinson comes in. David is the founder, CEO, and Director of Recruitment for Scholar Champion Athlete Recruiting. At the age of 24, he became one of the youngest head coaches in the entire NCAA. Distilling his experiences, he has written this book for the student and parent that wants to be recruited by the right school and attain the college experience they desire.

Book excerpt: How to Ensure That Your Children Are Given The Opportunity to Succeed at Sports Win The Youth Sports Game objectively narrates how ordinary kids can progress, survive, and thrive within today's $20 billion, youth-sports industrial complex. The sixteen-year developmental trek from toddler to collegiate athlete is chronicled while juxtaposing the real-life challenges that athletes in all sports must endure and overcome. Win The Youth Sports Game is the first title ever to provide an honest reality-check for parents—a What to Expect When You are Expecting for youth sports. Fifty incredibly common, adult-imposed obstacles are exposed so that parents can help their athletes navigate and overcome these challenges along their own sports journeys. Fifty million parents may be hopeful their young athletes are on track to play college sports and win a scholarship, but only about 2 percent of elite high school athletes receive even a partial sports scholarship. Share this book's table of contents with any sports parent, and they'll immediately identify with some of the seemingly outrageous storylines. The unfortunate outcome is that more than 75 percent of kids quit sports by age fourteen, with over-zealous adults being a big contributor. The author will donate half of any profits to Project Play's youth-sports advocacy programs.

Book excerpt: A guerrilla guide to getting the best college graduates to work for you—without spending like Microsoft, McKinsey, and Goldman Sachs Recruit or Die is the first practical guide to the entry-level recruiting game—which is very different from other kinds of recruiting and vitally important to every company, large or small. Traditionally, only large and powerful companies recruit on college campuses, scooping up the best and brightest. But small and young companies can also get top graduates—without a Wall Street budget—if they learn the secrets of America’s top recruiters. The key is understanding today’s college students: They aren’t just looking for money and perks. More important, they are looking for opportunities to stand out, move around quickly, and rack up cool experiences and achievements. Any employer can compete with the big companies on these intangibles. The authors share dozens of anecdotes and research on more than one thousand students that show how successful recruiters work their magic—and how unsuccessful recruiters blow it. They offer practical strategies and advice in each chapter, along with case studies. Based on their experience working with hot recruits and the elite companies that pursue them, the authors show how any company can conquer the campus.
