Some explanation should be given of the cause which has delayed the appearance of the volume. When the Editor was about to begin his work, it was proposed to remove the wills from the old Registry to the new building erected for the Court of Probate. This was not carried out at once, and in the meantime it was not thought advisable that the wills should undergo that extensive examination which the pur poses of this book required. Some time elapsed before they were lodged in their present excellent place of deposit, and hence the work was necessarily kept back for some months.
