Has not heard whether anything else was meant to be shipped from Albany, and had expected to get more information from Knox. Writes, Inclosed is a Return of the Military Stores ready to be sent, and another of some QMG's Stores which I have directed to be ready, as I am sure they will be of much more use at West point than at this place. Burgoine's Waggons must go down their wheels are excellent, especially for the New England ox teams, wherefore they had best be sent to fishkill landing, the bodies are most excellent work and will do for Jersey or Pensilvania Teams. Asks Knox to write him with news of any thing extraordinary, we get nothing here that can be depended on. Sends his regards to Mrs. Knox and the rest of Knox's family. Book excerpt: Is honored to report that the two cannons entrusted to him will be ready for delivery by next Wednesday. Will soon be going away for some weeks and wishes he could be present to see them sent off, but hopes they will meet with Knox's approval. Explains that the quality of the engraving is not as high as he might be able to accomplish on copper because of the hardness of the cannon's metal. Describes how best to clean and maintain them: if they are kept covered and once in a month washed with a clean brush and hot soap suds wrensed off with hot watter they will preserve the pollish. Hopes that his price of 40 guineas was not considered too extravagant, but the job did take him nine weeks to perform and required the labor of several workers as well. (See GLC02437.01746 for a certificate from Knox certifying Billings's engraving of the cannon.).

Aboville mentions 14 artillery cannon belonging to the State of Virginia which do not have carriages or ammunition and are in poor repair. Argues that these cannons would not be useful to Virginia, since they could not repair or equip them, but that the United States forces are in dire need of cannon for an artillery battery and could make them serviceable. Encourages General Washington to pursue a trade with the State of Virginia and give them small arms, or something similar, in exchange, or else to purchase or borrow the cannon from Virginia. Adds that he should obtain them quickly and bring them to Burlington for the ensuing campaign.
