Er wird meist mit der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin assoziiert. Mit ihm einher geht der Begriff der Bildung und die durch ihn hervorgehende Bildungsreform, denn der Gelehrte und Schriftsteller hat ein spezielles Verständnis von ‚Bildung‘. Zur Zeit des Neuhumanismus schafft er eine Neudefinition des Bildungsbegriffes, für ihn steht der Mensch im Mittelpunkt. Humboldt beschreibt seinen Versuch eine Bildungstheorie zu konzipieren als ein „besonders in unserer Zeit dringendes Bedürfnis“. Um 1800 herrscht Unterdrückung durch den Staat und sein Ziel ist es, die Gesellschaft durch ‚Bildung‘ von dem Staat zu befreien. Wilhelm von Humboldts Bildungsbegriff und den folgenden Anfängen einer Bildungsreform ist ein prägendes Ereignis seiner Zeit. Ein Wandel, der die Kulturgeschichte damals prägt und bis heute für uns von Bedeutung ist. Werkzeug dafür stellt seine Literatur dar, in der er Ansätze einer Definition gibt, seine Ansichten, Ziele und Handlungsmöglichkeiten darstellt. Allerdings ist es notwendig sich tiefer mit seinen Werken zu befassen, um seine Auffassung von Bildung zu verstehen. Aufgrund dieser Tatsache wird diese Hausarbeit, seine Literatur in Bezug auf ‚Bildung‘ und im Wesentlichen seine Theorie der Bildung des Menschen, näher durchleuchten. Zunächst ist ein Blick auf seine Person von Bedeutung, da anhand von verschiedenen Einflüssen schon von seiner Kindheit an, ‚Bildung‘ stets ein Begriff in seinem Leben war und die Beschäftigung damit sich durch seine Lebzeiten zieht. Des Weiteren folgt eine konkrete Definition von Bildung, zum Einen in Betracht auf unsere heutige Zeit, zum Anderen zur Zeit um 1800. Anschließend betrachtet diese Hausarbeit die Entwicklung der Bildung, vor allem im Kontext zu der Literatur. Es folgt ein ausführliches Kapitel mit der Durchleuchtung Humboldts Literatur in Bezug auf sein Verständnis von Bildung. Folgend wird die Frage der Relevanz zu der Zeit aufgegriffen und warum der Bildungsreformator eine Bildungstheorie damals als dringend und notwendig ansieht. In einem darauffolgenden Schluss werden die wesentlichen Erkenntnisse dieser Arbeit aufgeführt.

Liboiron and Lepawsky consider the partiality of knowledge and offer a theory of scale, exploring the myth that most waste is municipal solid waste produced by consumers; discuss peripheries, centers, and power, using content moderation as an example of how dominant systems find ways to discard; and use theories of difference to show that universalism, stereotypes, and inclusion all have politics of discard and even purification—as exemplified in “inclusive” efforts to broaden the Black Lives Matter movement.
