Download or read book Honor My Father written by Clint Nye and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2019-07-31 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honor My Father is a true story of how college men came to the US Navy as reservists, instructed by the officers from Annapolis, and teamed together. It brings their many personal stories of interactions with my dad (Air Defense Commander), serving on two destroyers (USS Bancroft & USS Goodrich) with the naming of their actual crew members. My story honors these silent, humble heroes. Thirty Benson-class destroyers were built from 1938 to 1943 and were the most vulnerable in the sea, protecting the fleet. The officers and crews earned 174 Battle Star Citations, one Presidential Citation and two Navy Unit Commendations posthumously. The last section of my true story about Dad, Comedy of Adolescence; describes how as a new professor, working on his Ph.D. this writer entered his teenage years while the two of us moved from the city of Chicago to the small town of Athens, Ohio. After his war experiences, he experienced nothing like the big guns going off in his ear until the hard pounding drums from my new rock and roll band!
Download or read book Mile 21 written by Del Corey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You have this book in your hands with the intent of being entertained, I presume. I hope that is the case. Some of you wish to whoosh through this tract, not expecting to discover any characters or gems of insight. I pray that you stop in your tracks and say, Son of a gun! I never thought of that! or perhaps I like looking at that from a different angle! That would be nice, because I believe such insights are in here, waiting to be discovered like jewelry in Grandmas boudoir. Now even though Im encroaching on some unmentionable years in my life, this is just my second novel! And I didnt think it would be such a momentous effort. I created scenes and characters that didnt exist before this! Where were they before? In my insane brain, I suppose. I was amazed to count and come to the realization that Id created over forty people! Many of them have come from parts of people I knew, and I thank them. Also, some of the people I created have become friends. I will miss them! Also, I trust that you, the reader, will enjoy to some degree the scenes and ideas I wrote for you without too many curves or knucklers so you can swing and hit home runs again and again while you find pleasure in the reading. Also, I mention addictions often in this book. I learned that there are good addictions and bad ones. I had the bad habit of smoking for many years, and I am so sorry now. If only I could unsmoke every cigarette Id had, but of course, I cant. And the damage is done to my lungs. Thank you, cigarette companies, for the gifts of packs and cartons while in the military! But dont focus on this one idea. Theres so much more in this book. Like sex! So enough of all that. Please read and enjoy! Or else!
Download or read book Class A written by Lucas Mann and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unforgettable chronicle of a year of minor-league baseball in a small Iowa town that follows not only the travails of the players of the Clinton LumberKings but also the lives of their dedicated fans and of the town itself. Award-winning essayist Lucas Mann delivers a powerful debut in his telling of the story of the 2010 season of the Clinton LumberKings. Along the Mississippi River, in a Depression-era stadium, young prospects from all over the world compete for a chance to move up through the baseball ranks to the major leagues. Their coaches, some of whom have spent nearly half a century in the game, watch from the dugout. In the bleachers, local fans call out from the same seats they’ve occupied year after year. And in the distance, smoke rises from the largest remaining factory in a town that once had more millionaires per capita than any other in America. Mann turns his eye on the players, the coaches, the fans, the radio announcer, the town, and finally on himself, a young man raised on baseball, driven to know what still draws him to the stadium. His voice is as fresh and funny as it is poignant, illuminating both the small triumphs and the harsh realities of minor-league ball. Part sports story, part cultural exploration, part memoir, Class A is a moving and unique study of why we play, why we watch, and why we remember.

Book Synopsis The Point of It All by : Lillie Smith Bailey
Download or read book The Point of It All written by Lillie Smith Bailey and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Point of It All is a collection of poems grounded in the writer's experiential and vicarious experiences. To the poet, poems are designed to raise, respond and react to points that reach deep into the soul, because therein lies a person's innermost thoughts, emotions and instincts about right and wrong. This poet's vision reflects how deeply she feels about ideas and issues that force humans to question themselves and their behavior. Some of the poems although not intended to be didactic serve as reminders for everyone to be forever conscious of the embedded messages in society that might threaten their values and change their points of emphasis. She offers that it is imperative that everyone must use their voices, poetic or otherwise to forever remain true to their moral vision.
