The seeds quoted are to be relied on as fresh and strictly pure, and of the finest quality, largely grown on our own seed-farms or under our own inspection. It has been our aim to supply the public with seeds of a superior strain, such as will produce the finest vegetables and most perfect flowers. The present season, both at home and abroad, has proved to be the most disastrous for the growing of seed crops that'the seed trade of America has experienced in years. The excessive drought, especially in France, has resulted in very short cr0ps of turnip, beets and carrot seed, while in radish there was simply no seed harvested at-all. We had large con tracts with best growers in France, amounting to thousands of pounds of Vick's Scarlet Globe Radish, and we do not get one ounce of seed, there fore we are obliged to omit this leading variety from this season's edition of our Wholesale Catalogue. We have, however, a fair supply left of the extra early scarlet turnip forcing, and scarlet turnip white tipped radi sh, either of which variety, under the circumstances, will give excellent satisfaction as a substitute for vick's scarlet globe radish. Notwithstanding these impor tant shortages, in making our prices for the current year we have endeavored to put them as low as possible consistent with the cost of producing seeds, etc., of the first quality. We do not, however, attempt to compete in price with parties who have no reputation to lose, and who often furnish seeds of questionable reliability.
