Book Synopsis Who Put the Con in Consumer? by : David Sanford
Download or read book Who Put the Con in Consumer? written by David Sanford and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 1972 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You're being conned! In spite of the best efforts of Better Business Bureaus, consumer protection agencies, and Ralph Nader, big business is putting one over on you--economically, politically, and ecologically. With keen determination and perception, David Sanford peers behind the posh public relations offices into the back rooms where policies are made, into the minds that decide what the consumer will buy, how much it will cost, and how it will be packaged and publicized. Do the presidents of General Mills and Pillsbury eat their own pre-packaged macaroni-and-cheese and canned hollandaise sauce? "Absurd!" declares Sanford, and he discloses the profit motivation behind such seemingly public-oriented products as vitamin additives and "add-your-own-egg" mixes. From children's toys to "harmless" drugs, Sanford shows how big business plays on public weaknesses, current fads, and the consumer's lack of precise information in order to sell its products.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the factors involved in consumer responses to food produced in regions near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant following the March 2011 Eastern Japanese earthquake, and assesses how responses to reports on food safety and risk of radiation contamination shaped consumer perceptions of and subsequent behavior toward products from the Fukushima prefecture. On the basis of a survey conducted in 2014 among 8,000 consumers from all parts of Japan and focusing on ten food products (rice, cucumbers, apples, shiitake mushrooms, beef, pork, eggs, tuna fish, wakame seaweed, and mineral water) it investigates consumer choices specifically based on rumor (“fuyou”) and not fact as well as how “fuyou” damage shaped such choices. It then goes on to analyze the differences between these customer choices.
