Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasizing a persons relationship with God, Whispers in the Wind, Shouts in the Storm offers a collection of poems that communicates a message of hope and inspiration that God is always present for his children. Author Beth Fore offers whispers in the wind poems as prayers of praise, thanksgiving, reflection, and appreciation of God in nature and in relationships, and she explores themes of Jesus and the Holy Spirit and mans relationship to them. She also shares shouts in the storm poems as a result of the difficulties and challenges in life. Many of the selections are paired with relevant scripture to encourage further Bible study. In Whispers in the Wind, Shouts in the Storm Fore conveys the message that Christians have a God who is creative, powerful, and faithful. He desires a relationship with his children, and we have the privilege and honor to worship him, honor him, and pray to him at any time and under any circumstance.

The best poets, to be sure, have something to say, they are artist and philosophers. Langston Hughes; Let America be America Again O, let America be America again--The land that never has been yet-- And yet must be--the land where every man is free. The land that's mine--the poor man's, Indian's, Negro's, ME Now Lateef has been added to Langston Hughes' list of "the land where every man is free." He proclaims it all over this book. Invisible Man, Revisited I am the transparent mirage in your mind's eye./The image you want to hold, /but with time/will simply forget. Lateef, you are not forgotten. -- John Peterson, Publisher, Poetic Matrix Press

Download or read book Freedom Faith written by Courtney Pace and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2019-06-15 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freedom Faith is the first full-length critical study of Rev. Dr. Prathia Laura Ann Hall (1940–2002), an undersung leader in both the civil rights movement and African American theology. Freedom faith was the central concept of Hall’s theology: the belief that God created humans to be free and assists and equips those who work for freedom. Hall rooted her work simultaneously in social justice, Christian practice, and womanist thought. Courtney Pace examines Hall’s life and philosophy, particularly through the lens of her civil rights activism, her teaching career, and her ministry as a womanist preacher. Moving along the trajectory of Hall’s life and civic service, Freedom Faith focuses on her intellectual and theological development and her radiating influence on such figures as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Marian Wright Edelman, and the early generations of womanist scholars. Hall was one of the first women ordained in the American Baptist Churches, USA, was the pastor of Mt. Sharon Baptist Church in Philadelphia, and in later life joined the faculty at the Boston University School of Theology as the Martin Luther King Chair in Social Ethics. In activism and ministry, Hall was a pioneer, fusing womanist thought with Christian ethics and visions of social justice.
Book Synopsis The Shout Video by : Hannah Adair Bonner
Download or read book The Shout Video written by Hannah Adair Bonner and published by . This book was released on 2016-05-17 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Shout loudly; don't hold back; raise your voice like a trumpet!" The words of Isaiah 58 lay the groundwork for The Shout, a six-session small group study that uses art, poetry, and video performances to create a unique learning environment. The curriculum offers a framework for discussion in which participants explore their own answers after first hearing the perspectives of artists and creative thinkers. Participants are encouraged to venture into their community to listen for unheard prophetic voices and to help these voices be heard. Although the study Journal and Leader Guide are suitable for any of adult age, the searching hearts of many within the millennial generation are especially drawn to the message in The Shout. The Shout DVD is designed for use alongside the study Journal and Leader Guide. It contains six video sessions, approximately 10-15 minutes each. Each session features performances of poets and other artists responding to one of the following questions, rooted in Isaiah 58: 1. Where is justice? 2. Who is your family? 3. What is freedom? 4. Who deserves our respect? 5. How much is enough? 6. How can we be whole? After viewing the video, participants will respond to the performances and discuss the questions for themselves. They will be challenged to seek and listen to similar prophetic voices in their own community. DVD is closed captioned.

Book excerpt: In the summer of 1962, a group of young Native American puppeteers travel in a converted school bus from the White Earth Reservation to the Century 21 Exposition, World's Fair in Seattle, Washington. The five Natives, three young men and two young women, have endured abandonment, abuse, poverty, and find solace, humor, and courage with a mute puppeteer—a Native woman in her seventies who writes original dream songs, and creates hand puppets and ironic parleys that mock the ghosts of authority. Dummy Trout, the mute puppeteer, also figured in Native Tributes and Satie on the Seine. The troupe attends a performance of Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett and they create a puppet parley for Wovoka, the inspiration of the Native American Ghost Dance Religion.
