Book excerpt: #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts weaves together passion and obsession, humor and heart, in a novel of two people opening themselves up to the truth—and to each other. For more than three hundred years, Bluff House has sat above Whiskey Beach, guarding its shore—and its secrets. But to Eli Landon, it’s home. A Boston lawyer, Eli has weathered an intense year of public scrutiny and police investigations after being accused of—but never arrested for—the murder of his soon-to-be ex-wife. He finds sanctuary at Bluff House, even though his beloved grandmother is in Boston recuperating from a nasty fall. Abra Walsh is always there, though. Whiskey Beach’s resident housekeeper, yoga instructor, jewelry maker and massage therapist, Abra is a woman of many talents—including helping Eli take control of his life and clear his name. But as they become entangled in each other, they find themselves caught in a net that stretches back for centuries—one that has ensnared a man intent on reaping the rewards of destroying Eli Landon once and for all.

Book excerpt: My personal expression of thoughts that lie within the pages of this your book are UNREVISED and therefore remain unchanged and offer you the reality of this father’s impressions of life’s excitement. The heroes within the one-paged presentations of philosophy, love and intimate romance, war, poetry, shorties, and my lessons learned experiences are about you and me within life’s spectrum of activities. Striving for and finding HAPPINESS is a theme throughout the book with an excitement of action, which has a similarity to a WILL ROGERS or MARK TWAIN adventure. I have been compelled to write inspirational and thought-inducing stories with moral fiber resulting from my awesome OUT-OF-BODY EXPERIENCE, occurring during the VIETNAM WAR following a bullet wound through my chest. Why I, an infantry grunt, reentered my lifeless body with a newness of LIFE AND ENERGY, I questioned. WHY! One significant reason for my rebirth is to share my views of WAR’S intensity, devastation, and our alternatives to war with you. Also, I need to share with the world now and throughout the ARCHIVES OF TIME why LIFE IS SO PRECIOUS. Book excerpt: Keggers at the ocean guards’ ramshackle house, fun in the sun at Whiskey Beach, and a raucous good time at the Bottle and Cork all contribute to Terri Landers’s summer of fun. The year is 1977, and Terri and her best friend, Veronica, are lifeguards at a community pool in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Life’s a blast until the weekend of the Fourth when heartbreak and treachery change not only the course of Terri’s summer but also the direction of her life’s journey. Along the way we meet a cast of characters from Black Bart and the Rally Crew, an ensemble of beer-bellied party animals, to Joe Bock, a high-voltage DJ who emcees a hilarious wet T-shirt contest, and, of course, the nostalgic youthful glow of summer at the shore back in the day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that the Coast Guard mounted a rescue effort on 9.11 and evacuated more than 100,000 New Yorkers from Manhattan by boat? Go to the little-known Naval Air Station Wildwood Museum in Cape May, New Jersey to discover that story. How about the remnants of the helicopter from Blackhawk Down or the lifeboat from Captain Phillips – or even the Airbus pulled from the Hudson River that was piloted by Sully Sullenberger? We’ll tell you where to go to find all of these objects -- and many, many more. Perhaps intrigue is more your suit. You can’t go into Area 51 but the government now acknowledges that it exists so we can suggest a drive near the perimeter that lets your imagination go wild. And while you’re in Nevada we’ll tell you how to join an almost-secret caravan of cars that goes out to the exact spot where atomic bombs were once detonated, that and all the info you need to see a fantastic museum in Las Vegas that features all of our formerly secret nuclear air-to-air missiles, nuclear howitzers, nuclear artillery shells and nuclear who-knows-what. And so it goes. Fire the gun on a Sherman tank, walk the decks of an aircraft carrier, go inside a hush-hush submarine, sit in a F-4 Phantom, fly in a Huey, see the trenches of World War I, walk the beaches of D-Day, see a CIA airbase – all of it here in America, all waiting for you to explore.

Book Synopsis A Guide to the Geology of Delaware's Coastal Environments by : John Christian Kraft
Download or read book A Guide to the Geology of Delaware's Coastal Environments written by John Christian Kraft and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The low-lying Delaware coast includes the highly varied geomorphic elements of a major estuary; highlands undergoing erosion; spits; dunes, marshes; and a lagoon-barrier shoreline. Vertical sediment sequences and geomorphic patterns as interpreted in this study should form useful models in deciphering paleogeography an sedimentary processes of coastal change. The three major elements of coastal change identified include: (1) the relative rise in sea level (now proceeding at a rate of approximately 1/2 foot per century), (2) coastal erosion and deposition processes, and (3) the resultant sequences of sedimentary lithosomes which reveal the past history of coastal change. The physical elements of the coastal geology are illustrated with photographs comparing details on the surface and from the air. Many diagrams and cross sections interpret and project and structural information obtained in field surveys. (Author).
