Of course Newark niggas are the grimiest so they don't take heed to Cam'ron's threat, they touch all of the above. Tamika who is Cam'ron's boo makes shit hotter when she sets out to show him that he's not the only hustler checkin for her and she does not have to condone his womanizing. When Tamika gets with a hustler who refuses to let her go back to Cam'ron the consequences get catastrophic for somebody. Meanwhile, Raheem who is the polar opposite from his man, is quietly putting his G down in the Dirty South. When ATL thugs test Raheem's gun they find out that a quiet storm is the deadliest. Raheem is as gentle with his woman as he is proficient with his murder game. Kayundra, Raheem's shorty has fallen into drug addiction and it has her in a vice grip. Raheem's love for Kayundra never wavers. He helps her beat her addiction and soon she's refocused on her dream of becoming a R&B diva. With Raheem's help Kayundra lands a recording deal and almost overnight she becomes a star. But success comes at a price that threatens to shatter their love.Raheem and Cam'ron go hard for what they want, and they attain it, leaving a lot of bodies along the way. They make many mothers bury their sons and shed tears, but on the road to hood fame and riches they learn that sometimes the enemy strikes back and its your turn to cry. When the blood and tears stop falling will what Cam'ron and Raheem gained be worth what they both lose?

Book excerpt: Money, power, respect and the battle for one woman's love pitted two notorious drug dealers against each other in a bloody battle that left behind many casualties. Young NARD has finally brought down CJ, Newark, New Jersey's most powerful and most dynamic crack King. But the baby-faced drug kingpin has made one monumental mistake--he left RAHEEM dying, but with an ounce of life still in him. If Rah survives, there's going to be a war in the streets unlike anything the decrepit city has ever witnessed, as he seeks to avenge the death of a friend whom he loved like a brother. Both men are thinkers, and they both have murderous goons at their disposal. But only one side can be victorious. Which side will it be? Will Nard's ego remain in check as his stature explodes to astronomical heights in the hood? If Raheem lives, will he prove that his gangsta is as cold as his mind is sharp? Nothing is for certain but death. But who's death will it be? This time when THUGS CRY, they'll cry more than tears--they'll cry blood. Lots of it

Book excerpt: Life is a cycle of death from one generation to the next. From day one we all have equal opportunities in life. As a young man who made some wrong choices at an early age and those choices will follow him all through the rest of his life. While trying not to become a statistic of the hood, but growing up in a society of poverty without a father can have a major effect on how your life turns out. Being raised around pimps, drug dealers, and wine-os their habits are bound to rub off on you. There are two roads in life: the road to destruction and the road to success; its totally up to you which one you will choose in life. You have to play the hand you were dealt, but you must play it to win. Sometimes things may not go as planned. You must never mix business with pleasure and loyalty and trust are everything. By know means ever should you let a woman come between you and your homies. Always stay true to yourself and know that snitches get stitches. If you ever get to the point that the money makes you instead of you making the money... GAME OVER! Written by: Frederick Williams aka Kwunt Dedicated to: Letha Williams

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection explores the creative space of poetry as a means to unravel feelings evoked by the violence of war or by everyday traumatic events. One may come to terms with uncomfortable, including unspeakable, feelings by describing them with imagery from nature and one’s immediate environment. By participating in grieving, the self can better face any lingering effects of trauma. In this creative space, dramatic speakers retell stories and give vent to contradictory feelings through silences and free play. Their accounts attest to the dappled beauty of the human condition even if the full nature, scope and effects of traumatic memories are always beyond their grasp.

Book excerpt: Justin Rollins has a remarkable ability. His poems emerge not from agonising over a blank sheet of paper, but in rap-like fashion, in full-flow and in their complete form. This collection takes the reader on a journey on which those familiar with his autobiographical The Lost Boyz will recognise the landmarks as the streets and characters of his native south-London once again spring into life. But this is fresh and captivating work. It deals with the everyday effects of disadvantage, the tensions of wealth and poverty, freedom and incarceration with glimpses of a sometimes dark past, motivational now and uncertain though optimistic future. What registers strongly is Rollins’ eye for detail, injustice, the telling remark, the eccentric, the absurd, clandestine places and parallel realities. Much of this is driven by his years living on the streets chasing excitement to compensate for the lack of things that come through a conventional upbringing. The result is a raw journey captured in snapshots of survival, crime, pain and the author’s travels on the Northern Line.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every weekday, the wildly popular Tom Joyner Morning Show reaches more than eight million radio listeners. The show offers broadly progressive political talk, adult-oriented soul music, humor, advice, and celebrity gossip for largely older, largely working-class black audience. But it's not just an old-school show: it's an activist political forum and a key site reflecting on popular aesthetics. It focuses on issues affecting African Americans today, from the denigration of hard-working single mothers, to employment discrimination and sexual abuse, to the racism and violence endemic to the U.S. criminal justice system, to international tragedies. In Black Radio/Black Resistance, author Micaela di Leonardo dives deep into the Tom Joyner Morning Show's 25 year history inside larger U.S. broadcast history. From its rise in the Clinton era and its responses to key events--9/11, Hurricane Katrina, President Obama's elections and presidency, police murders of unarmed black Americans and the rise of Black Lives Matter, and Donald Trump's ascendancy-it has broadcast the varied, defiant, and darkly comic voices of its anchors, guests, and audience members. di Leonardo also investigates the new synergistic set of cross-medium ties and political connections that have affected print, broadcast, and online reporting and commentary in antiracist directions. This new multiracial progressive public sphere has extraordinary potential for shaping America's future. Thus Black Radio/Black Resistance does far more than simply shed light on a major counterpublic institution unjustly ignored for reasons of color, class, generation, and medium. It demonstrates an alternative understanding of the shifting black public sphere in the digital age. Like the show itself, Black Radio/Black Resistance is politically progressive, music-drenched, and blisteringly funny.
