These ideologies have a way of pitting one group of people against another, one nation against another nation. In nine short chapters, the author offers valuable insights on this problem. He identifies key points of the major ideologies of our time—capitalism, Marxism, apartheid, and national security states. Then he shows how the Christian can learn from ideology. He draws key insights from the Scriptures for dealing with it. “Faith judges all ideologies,” he says. The author is a former missionary to Ethiopia, professor of mission and world religion at Eastern Mennonite College, and author of numerous articles. He illustrates key points from his experience. Explore with him how to rise above ideology to be a world citizen. Discover in his clear, concise writing food for thought and handles for action.

Book excerpt: From the bestselling authors of The Rise of Babylon and The ISIS Crisis, the essential guide for Christians about what Bible prophecy foretells concerning current events in the Middle East—especially the rise of ISIS and the resurgence of Russia—while providing a way to find peace and hope in the face of end times concerns. ISIS, Russia, and Iran are daily atop headlines and are among chief sources of intensifying unease among Americans about how current world conflicts will unfold. Using the Old Testament texts of prophets Ezekiel and Daniel as foundational passages, Bible experts Charles Dyer and Mark Tobey explain the connection between Bible prophecy and real-time events such as the growing alliance between Russia and Iran; the unsettling of the region as ISIS ravages countries and redraws boundaries; and the pull of Turkey and Saudi Arabia into the fray by Russian encroachment, Iranian meddling, and the United States’ inability to create and lead a coalition. Simultaneously, Dyer and Tobey provide practical encouragement and spiritual principles for finding comfort, strength, and perspective in an unsettling time while laying out a strategy for responding out of faith rather than fear in the face of end times concerns.

Book excerpt: Is God "finished" with the Jewish people? Isn't God mad at the Jewish people? Why should we care about Israel? Isn't the Church the "new Israel"? Aren't all the Old Testament prophecies about Israel fulfilled in Jesus? In When Kingdoms Collide, Ron Cantor offers powerful insights into these questions AND invites you to think about things you've probably never considered. There are two kingdoms-the world and God's, visible and invisible-and they are on a collision course that will reach critical mass when King (or more like, Emperor!) Yeshua returns. Cantor provides clarity over some very puzzling Scriptures, gives a bird's eye view of the troubling and dark history between the Jewish people and the Church over the last 2,000 years, and points to an exciting path forward. As we see the world changing and systems shaking around us, When Kingdoms Collide will give you great hope for the future.

Book excerpt: "This book is a MUST for every business team leader who plans to start doing business in a new cross-cultural environment." - Markku Vartiainen OBE, President, Finnish-British Chamber of Commerce International teams are rapidly becoming the central operating mode for global enterprises. They are often agile and perceptive, know local markets better than HQ does, lead innovation and exploratory ventures, and are more culturally aware than their parent company. But how much autonomy should they be allowed? How can we get things done with colleagues who have different worldviews? How can we strike a balance between core values and the necessary diversity - and is diversity within the team a strength or a hindrance? What is the role of the team leader in all of this? How do you establish team trust? How important is team humor? Who decides the team's ethics? What misunderstandings can arise in a virtual team, lacking face-to-face contact? In answering these and other questions, Richard D. Lewis draws on 30 years experience mediating with hundreds of international teams in two dozen countries. Generously illustrated with explanatory diagrams, When Teams Collide analyses profiles of 24 different nationalities and suggests how they should be led for best results. Commenting on vital considerations of leadership, team trust, ethics and humor, the author also evaluates the relationship between teams and HQ. Applying the cultural concepts in the bestselling When Cultures Collide specifically to team leadership, this is a wide-ranging and compelling account of how to handle what is a difficult and sensitive task.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congregational music can be an act of praise, a vehicle for theology, an action of embodied community, as well as a means to a divine encounter. This multidisciplinary anthology approaches congregational music as media in the widest sense - as a multivalent communication action with technological, commercial, political, ideological and theological implications, where processes of mediated communication produce shared worlds and beliefs. Bringing together a range of voices, promoting dialogue across a range of disciplines, each author approaches the topic of congregational music from his or her own perspective, facilitating cross-disciplinary connections while also showcasing a diversity of outlooks on the roles that music and media play in Christian experience. The authors break important new ground in understanding the ways that music, media and religious belief and praxis become ’lived theology’ in our media age, revealing the rich and diverse ways that people are living, experiencing and negotiating faith and community through music.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh look at an old subject. The author addresses the study of the book of Revelation and Eschatology with an emphasis on the Kingdom. Notably, the results are conclusively Preterist in content by the eyes of the author, of the mildest of forms. Coming from several years of end-times research, and many more of that of Bible knowledge, this book focuses on the prophesies of Daniel, as well as the Gospels, to prove with reasonable certainty (to the author) that the reasonable whole of the book of Daniel is concluded and fulfilled, and much of the Revelation of John. The book follows in an "at-face-value" approach, allowing normal customs of language, demonstrating a concise and historic progression of events, with the destruction of the temple on 70 AD, the Second Jewish Revolt of 135 AD being the winepress of God's wrath, the seven bowls of wrath poured out upon Rome in what is known as the Crisis of the Third Century to destroy Rome, and a literal, already-fulfilled Millennium in the Middle Ages. The focus of the book is doctrine of the Kingdom, which demonstrates its centrality in the entire subject. It is the asserted that the study of Eschatology is the study of the Kingdom (this is repeated throughout the book). Including a look at the parables of Jesus, and taking Jesus' introductory declaration of Mark 1:15 to be clearest statement of the Kingdom, this book side-steps the fruitless debates of the Schweitzer, Dodd, and Ladd, of "consistent", "realized", or "inaugurated" Eschatologies, and steps directly to an "everlasting eschatology". Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. Ps 145:13 Generally relying upon the KJV version for the development of key issues, except where a nuance is better brought out by another version as indicated, the author develops the case, 'sola scriptura', that the Kingdom is indeed here, and that it relates to the first coming of Christ. Of note, the author specifically interprets the Olivet Discourse as being divided, based upon the merits of a study of the word "Eutheos" in Matthew 24:29. "Eutheos", when compared throughout the New Testament, often implies an unspecified time gap, representing hours, days, or even months. This, combined with a reading of the traditional "time texts", Matthew 24:34&36, the author sees that the v36 "but of that day and hour" specifically excludes the v29-31 "that day" from the "these things" of v4-22. As such, the "this generation" applies precisely and exactly to the generation then alive during the giving of this discussion, as per the traditional partial-Preterist position. However, it clearly excludes the obvious Second Coming references in vv29-31. Additionally, the author makes specific reference to the verses of Daniel 11:40-43 as pertaining to the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, or the foundation of the Roman Empire, which is shown to be the fourth Kingdom of Daniel 2,7. These two facts place the Great Tribulation of Daniel 12 and Matthew 24 decidedly in the first century, the 70AD destruction of Jerusalem, according to the author. The author then divides the body of Revelation into two prophecies, as per the two prophetic commissions in Revelation 1 and 10. Using a 68-70AD, post-Neronic, pre-fall of Jerusalem date for the book, Rev 6-11 corresponds to the destruction of Jerusalem, while Rev 12-19 are clearly seen in historic events and detail the further punishing of the Jewish nation, followed by the final overthrow of the beast, Rome. Woven throughout the book, the author attempts to depict the great contrast of ages. For 1,000 years, Babylon, in four different stages, ruled the known world. Then, after it was broken small at the conversion of Constantine, the Kingdom of God ruled for its 1,000 years. We are now in that "short time", looking towards a Gog Magog conflict, and the fulfillment of the Israel promises in between Revelation 20:10-11.
