This has been true largely because more information has been available on these subjects. These professions have benefited from the study given to them. More information is constantly becoming available on marketing. The increasing amount of study that is now being devoted to market ing should improve marketing methods, increase marketing efficiency, and reduce marketing costs. Book excerpt: As you are reading this, you are obviously interested in how Marketing actually works and what is actually effective. You already have been through the wringer with all these online marketers who use the same copy-paste template of a sales page, with mailing lists which send you unwanted traffic several times a week and insist that you are stupid enough to believe their hype, over and over and over. The Masters of Marketing Secrets series brings you these classics so that you can make up your own mind. All that has been done with these books is to give you modern versions of them which have been (mostly) cleaned up of typo's and poor editing - and also made available in ebook and paperback so you can study them at your leisure. J. George Frederick lived in those times and wrote about the people and principles of advertising they discovered. His book has been handed around for years, and as you study the other books in this series it starts pulling the pieces together for you.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Marketing Experimentation If the change is drastic enough, say a price cut or the introduction of a new product, there are sometimes special opportunities for analysis. An example of this is Henderson and Brown's study of the effect of a promotional campaign on the sales of frozen orange juice. Although the analysis of historical data is often very valuable, experiments offer several special advantages. If you make an experimental change and observe an effect, it is frequently more convincing than if a change and an effect occur together in past data. In the latter case, you are likely to worry that a deeper mechanism may be causing both the change and the effect, since changes in marketing variables are usually made for some reason. A serious difficulty in econometric analyses is that the variables of interest may have substantial correlations with each other and with other explanatory variables. This may lead to instability in estimates of the important regression coefficients. In designing an experiment a deliberate effort is made to have small correlation among experimental variables and between them and other explanatory variables. Finally, of course, experiments can be directed at questions of immediate interest and can examine more different alternatives than would normally occur in regular Operations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Business of Advertising This book is intended for all who wish to know what advertising is, and how it is done. It will be helpful to the young man engaged in some phase of advertising work, and particularly to the young man who wishes to know what advertising work is in order to determine whether he wants to undertake it or not. It is written also with the idea of helping the manufacturer whose product ought to be advertised. From it such a manu facturer can gain some idea of the various steps neces sary to bring his product to the notice of the consumer. If it only strengthens in his mind the impression that professional help is necessary, it will have served a very good purpose. The advertising agent who renders Service to his client is a very important factor in the business world. Too many advertisers are ignorant of the nature and scope of that service. All that an agency has to sell is experience, the accumulated experience of dealing with many conditions and many problems. While not pri marily a book for advertisers, the mere description of an ideal agency must show them that such an agency is as necessary to successful advertising as coast survey charts to navigation, or as logarithms to an astronomer. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Advertising Book, 1916 One object is to give to such persons as may be interested in advertising (but who are not familiar with its inner workings in its modern forms) a clear idea of what is being done from within to make more effective this part of the present-day selling mechanism. The other, and the more important object, is to help those who are actively engaged in selling operations to acquire a working familiarity with some of the events forming current advertising history. To such persons, the records of these events may have suggestive value in connection with efforts to reduce waste in the processes of distributing merchandise. In the conclusion of Advertising as a Business Force, a simi lar compilation made for the Associated Clubs in 1912-13, I called attention to three lines in which it seemed to me advertising was making distinct progress.
