Julie Molina and her band, Julie and the Phantoms, play their dream gig at the Orpheum. It was supposed to be Luke, Reggie, and Alex's unfinished business as ghosts, so they could cross over. But they didn't. And now, suddenly, Julie can feel them. Whatever happens next, Julie and the guys know they've just had one of the best days of their (after)lives. And it gets Luke and Julie thinking about their last perfect days... For Luke, it was the day he died -- the day Sunset Curve was supposed to play the Orpheum. For Julie, it was the day before she found out her mom was sick -- the last normal day before her life changed forever. This exclusive Julie and the Phantoms story is told in flashbacks and alternating points of view!

Book excerpt: She needs to stay. He has orders to go. They'll have to trust God with whatever happens next. Growing up in small town Oklahoma gave US Air Force vehicle maintainer TSgt Dyson what his momma calls itchy feet. His wanderlust has kept him from romantic entanglements for years, until the day an over-dramatic, strawberry-scented chatterbox slams into him and turns his world upside down. Jenna Davis was a quintessential good girl, deeply rooted in her family and faith until one mistake three years ago changed everything. Unable to admit her failure, she goes through the motions watching everyone else live their dreams. But it's hard to find her purpose when opening up to anyone-even God-feels impossible. Then she meets Dyson, who personifies the strong, silent type. Dyson gets her to open up and begin dreaming again, rebuilding the trust she's lost in men and especially in herself. But Dyson has something important to tell Jenna, and he knows it'll be the end of all they've built. After all, how can he ask her to leave everything and everyone behind when he can never stay? The Everyday Love Series is a clean, inspirational contemporary romance series set in Albuquerque, featuring ordinary people in lifelike stories that inspire, uplift, and share hope. Stories in which a very real God shows Himself in everyday ways to carry His people through any circumstance. This book made me laugh out loud, and happy sigh more times than I can count! The faith story was fabulous and touched my heart deeply! I love that Jaycee Weaver's books have a strong faith story, and it's always so brilliantly written! This author doesn't sugarcoat the hard things in life, and the faith thread in her stories is always refreshingly real, relatable, and life changing, but never preachy -Caitlyn, reviewer ★★★★★ This story is a delightful story about, hopes, dreams, mistakes, deep longings, and hurts. It's a story that will touch your heart and leave you feeling encouraged, knowing God's got all your dreams and He's right there waiting for you to reach out. Jaycee Weaver is a wonderful author who spins beautiful stories. She packs fun quirky moments and deep life lessons into each of her books. -MF Literary Works ★★★★★ Weaver's storytelling engages the reader on every page, and she (seemingly) seamlessly combines hilarious wit and swoony romance (Dyson! Be still my heart for this quiet, steady soul) with an authentic faith journey & all its stumbles and struggles and triumphs. -Carrie, Reading is My Superpower ★★★★★

Book excerpt: People spent the twentieth century obsessed with the future. We created technologies that would help connect us faster, gather news, map the planet, and compile knowledge. We strove for an instantaneous network where time and space could be compressed. Well, the future's arrived. We live in a continuous now enabled by Twitter, email, and a so-called real-time technological shift. Yet this "now" is an elusive goal that we can never quite reach. And the dissonance between our digital selves and our analog bodies has thrown us into a new state of anxiety: present shock.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A meditation on sense-making when there’s no sense to be made, on letting go when we can’t hold on, and on being unafraid even when we’re terrified.”—Lucy Kalanithi “Belongs on the shelf alongside other terrific books about this difficult subject, like Paul Kalanithi’s When Breath Becomes Air and Atul Gawande’s Being Mortal.”—Bill Gates NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY REAL SIMPLE Kate Bowler is a professor at Duke Divinity School with a modest Christian upbringing, but she specializes in the study of the prosperity gospel, a creed that sees fortune as a blessing from God and misfortune as a mark of God’s disapproval. At thirty-five, everything in her life seems to point toward “blessing.” She is thriving in her job, married to her high school sweetheart, and loves life with her newborn son. Then she is diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. The prospect of her own mortality forces Kate to realize that she has been tacitly subscribing to the prosperity gospel, living with the conviction that she can control the shape of her life with “a surge of determination.” Even as this type of Christianity celebrates the American can-do spirit, it implies that if you “can’t do” and succumb to illness or misfortune, you are a failure. Kate is very sick, and no amount of positive thinking will shrink her tumors. What does it mean to die, she wonders, in a society that insists everything happens for a reason? Kate is stripped of this certainty only to discover that without it, life is hard but beautiful in a way it never has been before. Frank and funny, dark and wise, Kate Bowler pulls the reader deeply into her life in an account she populates affectionately with a colorful, often hilarious retinue of friends, mega-church preachers, relatives, and doctors. Everything Happens for a Reason tells her story, offering up her irreverent, hard-won observations on dying and the ways it has taught her to live. Praise for Everything Happens for a Reason “I fell hard and fast for Kate Bowler. Her writing is naked, elegant, and gripping—she’s like a Christian Joan Didion. I left Kate’s story feeling more present, more grateful, and a hell of a lot less alone. And what else is art for?”—Glennon Doyle, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love Warrior and president of Together Rising

Dr. Paul Enns answers several tough, critical questions that all revolve around this central quandary of "why." Why does God allow suffering? Is suffering the result of judgment for sin? Are there even explanations for the terrors and trials we face? Dr. Enns brings answers from Scripture and from his experience as a professor and pastor, and a wounded one at that. More than anything, he brings comfort and clarity to people who are desperate for it.

Book excerpt: Two veteran writers collaborate on this fascinating behind-the-scenes account of the journey that took the “practically perfect” nanny from the pages of P. L. Travers’s beloved novels to the stage. Well-known British writer and radio personality Brian Sibley tells Mary Poppins’s story, from her obscure origins in Travers’s Australian childhood and her progress through the series of books Travers began to write in 1934, to her incarnation by Julie Andrews in one of the most successful Disney films of all time, to her long-awaited landing onstage in London’s West End. A long-time friend of Travers and co-writer with her of an unproduced sequel to the film, Sibley offers unique insights into the idiosyncratic author’s complex relationship to her heroine, and the decades-long series of proposals and negotiations that finally resulted in Disney Theatrical Productions joining forces with the Cameron Mackintosh Theatrical Group to realize Travers’s stories as a spectacular work of musical theater. Sibley’s details the entire development process of the show’s script, music, choreography, and design, culminating in a glorious opening night on December 15, 2004 in London’s Prince Edward’s Theatre, as Mary Poppins is met by cheering sold-out houses and critical raves. In the book’s second half, Michael Lassell gives a fascinating backstage account of the show’s transfer to Broadway, including the show’s American casting and important changes to its book, lyrics, and designs, as the creative team strives to “plus” Poppins to perfection.

Book excerpt: A fascinating journey through a single painting’s history, meanings and associations by “one of the great non-fiction writers of this and the last century” (Simon Schama, Financial Times). Acclaimed travel author and art historian Michael Jacobs was haunted by Velázquez’s enigmatic masterpiece Las Meninas from first encountering it in the Prado as a teenager. In Everything is Happening Jacobs searches for the ultimate significance of the painting by following the many associations suggested by each of its characters, as well as his own relationship to the work. From Jacobs’ first trip to Spain to the politics of Golden Age Madrid, to his meeting with the man who saved Las Meninas during the Spanish Civil war, to his experiences in the sunless world of the art history academy, Jacobs delivers a brilliantly discursive meditation on art and life that dissolves the barriers between the past and the present, the real and the illusory. Cut short by Jacobs’ death in 2014, and completed with an introduction and coda by his friend and fellow art lover, the journalist Ed Vulliamy, this visionary and often very funny book is a passionate, personal manifesto for the liberation of how we look at painting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are interested in reading a book that deals with many of the ills that are plaguing our society, then Whatever Happen To COMMON SENSE is your book. The Author Elmer Williams shoots from the hip on so many issues. He says things that most are thinking, but do not have the courage to say it. From the time you pick the book up, you will not want to stop reading it until you have finished the last chapter. From the beginning in chapter one the author deals with "Just Tell It Like It Is." You will be captivated by his frankness and common sense approach. In chapter 7 and chapter 9 which are entitled "Raising Cain" and "Building Frankenstein," he deals with rearing children. These chapters also give a reason on why our children are not growing up to be responsible. We all will be familiar with someone from "The Don't Get It Crowd" in chapter ten. Chapter seventeen will touch on why so many men have been emasculated. It also discusses why the media is so adamant about portraying every homosexual as a perfect role model. Chapter eighteen "Race and Racism" and chapter nineteen " Justice or Not" deals with racism and injustices in our society. Chapter twenty "History, Cronyism, Nepotism, and Affirmative Action" is sure to get many conversations started. Chapter twenty two "The Media Is To Blame" discusses the bias in the media and how they cover certain stories. The book is a call to get back to using common sense in schools, work environment, politics, and in our everyday lives. Common Sense is something that we all are born with, but often forget to use it. You could compare having common sense and not using this God given gift, to having a lifejacket aboard the Titanic, yet refusing to put it on. That's what you will get from reading this book, a common sense methodology. Let's get back to the basics and maybe we can start an outburst of common sense thinking. This book is thought provoking and insightful. Some readers maybe become angered by the boldness of the Author. However it will get many dialogs started. If you have an opinion you should at least back that opinion up with an objective reasoning to that particular belief. If you are not objective in your beliefs, you have been reduced to a child's rationale of your belief system. In "What Ever Happen To Common Sense" your subjective beliefs will be challenged.
