Book Synopsis The School of Greatness by : Lewis Howes
Download or read book The School of Greatness written by Lewis Howes and published by Rodale. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a career-ending injury left elite athlete and professional football player Lewis Howes out of work and living on his sister’s couch, he decided he needed to make a change for the better. He started by reaching out to people he admired, searching for mentors, and applying his past coaches’ advice from sports to life off the field. Lewis did more than bounce back: He built a multimillion-dollar online business and is now a sought-after business coach, speaker, and podcast host. In The School of Greatness, Howes shares the essential tips and habits he gathered in interviewing “the greats” on his wildly popular podcast of the same name. In discussion with people like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Pencils of Promise CEO Adam Braun, Howes figured out that greatness is unearthed and cultivated from within. The masters of greatness are not successful because they got lucky or are innately more talented, but because they applied specific habits and tools to embrace and overcome adversity in their lives. A framework for personal development, The School of Greatness gives you the tools, knowledge, and actionable resources you need to reach your potential. Howes anchors each chapter with a specific lesson he culled from his greatness “professors” and his own experiences to teach you how to create a vision, develop hustle, and use dedication, mindfulness, joy, and love to reach goals. His lessons and practical exercises prove that anyone is capable of achieving success and that we can all strive for greatness in our everyday lives.

Book excerpt: Why do we keep getting the same jobs, taking on the same relationships, and finding ourselves in the same emotional traps? Dr. Joe Dispenza not only teaches why people tend to repeat the same negative behaviors, he shows how readers can release themselves from these patterns of disappointment. With the dynamic combination of science and accessible how-to, Dispenza teaches how to use the most important tool in ones body and life—the brain. Featured in the underground smash hit of 2004, "What the Bleep Do We Know!?," Dispenza touched upon the brain's ability to become addicted to negative emotions. Now, in his empowering book Evolve Your Brain he explains how new thinking and new beliefs can literally rewire one's brain to change behavior, emotional reactions, and habit forming patterns. Most people are unaware of how addicted they are to their emotions, and how the brain perpetuates those addictions automatically. In short, we become slaves to our emotional addictions without even realizing it. By observing our patterns of thought, and learning how to 're-wire the brain' with new thought patterns, we can break the cycles that keep us trapped and open ourselves to new possibilities for growth, happiness and emotional satisfaction. Key Features A radical approach to changing addictive patterns and bad habits. Based on more than twenty years of research. Bridges the gap between science, spirituality and self-help—a formula that has proven success. Easy to understand and written for the average reader.

The 21st century is by no means free of wars, terrorism, riots, famine, nor epidemics. We may attempt to solve the challenges of our times by uniting the humanistic disciplines of philosophy, science, and technology. Book excerpt: Through the years, I have felt a deep bewilderment regarding humankind's varied interpretations of God's Word and/or of those Spiritual teachings which have been attributed to the Messengers of God. I took a monumental leap of Faith and went beyond the boundaries of organized religion; I went to The Source Itself; The Source of all TRUTH, God, my Creator. It was only recently that I was privileged to be Given a Direct Line to TRUTH: a new Revelation on how to Commune directly with God, our Creator. As an analogy, God Served as the Master Storage Bank of all TRUTH; my mind became as the Terminal Computer and the Modem was The Christ or my At-ONEment with God. No longer need I be dependent upon the word of humankind; through The Mediator, The Christ, I was now provided with an immediate, untarnished Access to God's Word. For those who do not believe that humankind today can have direct Access to God's Word, may I suggest re-reading with an open mind these verses attributed to Jesus, The Christ as written in the Holy Bible; St. John 14: 12-14: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." Does humankind Truly Believe as Jesus, The Christ did, "I and my Father are One...?" It was through my TRUE Self, The Christ Self, during my Communion with God Mind that all quoted material of Return to TRUTH was Given to me in Answer to my questions, my questions which were Seeking the TRUTH that will set humankind free. Remember: "Understanding (that which is NEW), will need an openness of mind as that which is NEW tends to destroy that which is OLD. Openness means willingness to entertain NEW ideas. Amen."
Book Synopsis Tragic Views of the Human Condition by : Lourens Minnema
Download or read book Tragic Views of the Human Condition written by Lourens Minnema and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can tragic views of the human condition as known to Westerners through Greek and Shakespearean tragedy be identified outside European culture, in the Indian culture of Hindu epic drama? In what respects can the Mahabharata epic's and the Bhagavadgita's views of the human condition be called 'tragic' in the Greek and Shakespearean senses of the word? Tragic views of the human condition are primarily embedded in stories. Only afterwards are these views expounded in theories of tragedy and in philosophical anthropologies. Minnema identifies these embedded views of human nature by discussing the ways in which tragic stories raise a variety of anthropological issues-issues such as coping with evil, suffering, war, death, values, power, sacrifice, ritual, communication, gender, honour, injustice, knowledge, fate, freedom. Each chapter represents one cluster of tragic issues that are explored in terms of their particular (Greek, English, Indian) settings before being compared cross-culturally. In the end, the underlying question is: are Indian views of the human condition very different from Western views?
Book Synopsis Seeing, Thinking and Knowing by : A. Carsetti
Download or read book Seeing, Thinking and Knowing written by A. Carsetti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Putnam to talk of “facts” without specifying the language to be used is to talk of nothing; “object” itself has many uses and as we creatively invent new uses of words “we find that we can speak of ‘objects’that were not ‘values of any variable’in 1 any language we previously spoke” . The notion of object becomes, then, like the notion of reference, a sort of open land, an unknown territory. The exploration of this land - pears to be constrained by use and invention. But, we may wonder, is it possible to guide invention and control use? In what way, in particular, is it possible, at the level of na- ral language, to link together program expressions and natural evolution? To give an answer to these onerous questions we should immediately point out that cognition (as well as natural language) has to be considered first of all as a peculiar fu- tion of active biosystems and that it results from complex interactions between the - ganism and its surroundings. “In the moment an organism perceives an object of wh- ever kind, it immediately begins to ‘interpret’this object in order to react properly to it . . . It is not necessary for the monkey to perceive the tree in itself. . . What counts is sur- 2 vival” .

It has been continuously practised for over a thousand years but has still take its place in the history of medicine as we know it in the West. This volume presents for the first time a comprehensive introduction to the arcane Tibetan art of healing. The author has provided a well-documented, original and detailed study of Tibetan psychiatry, the world's oldest system of medical psychiatry. Translated here--for the first time in English--are three fascinating chapters about mental illness from the rGyud-bzhi, the ancient and most important Tibetan medical work. Reproductions of the rare Tibetan texts are also included. Supplementing these translations are extensive explanations of Tibetan psychiatric theory and treatment drawn from the author's research and interviews with Tibetan refugee doctors in India and Nepal. Great care has been taken to identify over 90 pharmacological substances used in Tibetan psychiatric medicines, and these are listed in an appendix along with their English and Latin botanical names. Deeply researched and clearly written, this work will be of interest to both scholars and general readers in the fields of Buddhist studies, holistic healing, Oriental medicine, transpersonal psychology, ethnopsychiatry and medical anthropology.

Book excerpt: There is not a problem existing between people that has not been generated by the judgements of conditioned and fearful minds. There is not a difficulty between lovers, parent and child, employer and employee, neighbours and nations that cannot be healed by True Sight. True Sight is the antidote to confusion and suffering. True Sight is a frequency of thought consciousness that dissolves the conditioned and fearful mind, allowing full access to the awareness and divine energy of the soul consciousness and infinite intelligence of heaven. Up until now, your conditioned mind has been controlling much of what your life has become. Each new day is the sum of what you have previously allowed to occur in your mind. This mind and the concept it holds of you continues to create much of who you are, what you have, and what you will become, but only if you passively allow it. Through the applications of the principles of True Sight, you will be able to see and direct your life through Gods eyes. True Sight will give you profound peace, leading you to the most enlightened and deliberate experience in your current dimension and the next. -Saint Francis
