If Calvin had lived a century earlier, his teaching would have been swallowed up in the Catholic tradition, and he would likely be a footnote in Christian history rather than a pillar. If he had come a century later, his teaching would have faced the daunting task of shaping a movement that was already in motion. When Calvin developed his doctrine, it was the perfect time. The Western World was ready for a new theological system as it had not been since the time of Constantine. This time, however, the system was able to ride the wings of revolution that bore the historically powerful impetus of freedom from religious tyranny. But, what if Calvin was wrong? In this book, readers will learn the basics of the Calvinistic teaching of Eternal Security and the disparity between this teaching and the clear teaching of the Bible. For example: Ezekiel 18:24 says, "But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die." Eternal Security and Ezekiel clash at this point. What should the responsible Christian do? What about all of the Christians who have fallen into sin and even died in a backslidden state? What about all the parables that conflict with the teaching of Eternal Security? The Bible lists several sins that are capable of destroying a believer's hope in Heaven. Among those are unforgiveness and hatred. Is the answer that Eternal Security provides strong enough to overrule these Scriptural teachings? In addition, "What if Calvin Was Wrong?" exposes several myths that are often propagated by modern Calvinists. Many of these myths are faulty interpretations of Scripture. See how these myths stack up when evaluated in the light of the truth. The most dramatic of these myths is the teaching of modern Calvinists that suicide victims can go to Heaven. Is this true? Is it what the Bible says? What if Calvin was wrong?

Book excerpt: Park Rose is a story based on actual events that occurred in my life growing up. I titled the book Park Rose because Park Rose was a street I lived on in Duarte, California, a very nice, quiet neighborhood in the Monrovia area. Our house wasn't right in the middle of the neighborhood, but I'm sure all the screams and sounds coming from that house made it the center of the neighborhood attention. I will never forget the things that occurred on Park Rose and in my life thereafter. God has brought me a might long way. Without God, I know I would not be here being able to share my testimony with you all. I also wanted to make awareness to mental illness. Enduring through years of abuse, my mother was not able to care for us appropriately anymore. She is not able to care for herself today. Abuse doesn't just end when the abuse stops; it continues for years without the proper help.

This little booklet will help you examine your beliefs and practices to determine whether or not you are truly on the path that leads to Heaven. "Test Your Faith: Find Out if You Are a True Christian," is based on 2 Corinthians 13:5, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” The Bible tells us to examine our faith. This little booklet will help you examine your beliefs and practices to determine whether or not you are truly on the path that leads to Heaven. The booklet is divided into four short chapters that are based on essential questions to Christianity: 1. Have You Had a Genuine Conversion Experience? 2. Are You Living a Life of Purity Before God? 3. Do You Have the Right Beliefs? 4. Does Your Faith Have Works? At the end of each chapter, there are a few simple study questions that will help you determine how you stand on each of the issues presented in the chapter. While the information here is not intended to be exhaustive, it will help you examine yourself concerning your faith. You might find that there is more to being in the faith than you first expected, and you may gain new insights that will strengthen your faith. Either way, you will be blessed as you take the time to open God’s Word and study what He has to say about Salvation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Victorious Generals & Their Powerful Secrets Revealed In an atmosphere of oppression and darkness, the reformers came with revelation from God and translations of the Bible into common language. Roberts Liardon will introduce you to six men who fought to reintroduce the beliefs and principles of the early church. John Wycliffe, “The Bible Translator,” who translated the Bible from Latin into English and was martyred for his efforts. John Hus, “The Father of Reform,” who longed to spread the gospel and urged people to “search the Scriptures.” Martin Luther, “The Battle-ax of Reform,” the monk turned reformer who found that man is saved by grace. John Calvin, “The Teaching Apostle,” who organized the church and urged people to serve God in all areas of life. John Knox, “The Sword Bearer,” the rough Scottish reformer who battled queens to gain the right to preach what he believed. George Fox, “The Liberator of Spirit,” the founder of the Quakers, who lived through persecution after persecution yet humbly shared the Holy Spirit with everyone he met. As you read about these men who sacrificed everything in their fight for God, and view the many revealing photos, you will appreciate the freedom you have to worship, find encouragement for your spiritual battles, and be motivated to find biblical truth for your own life.

Is it true that God has determined your eternal destiny even before you were born? Christ seems to invite everyone to himself throughout the pages of the New Testament, but is this a hoax? Calvinists have been relegated to a closet inside of evangelicalism for nearly five hundred years but they have broken out and have become aggressive in their promotion of what they call their Doctrines of Grace, even to other Christians. This book will help if your friend is a Calvinist and is promoting what sounds logical to your ears. It will give you answers if your new pastor is promoting Reform Theology in your church. Written in a easy-to-read handbook format, Cracking Calvin will give you the answers to these and other questions that you have been searching to find.

Book excerpt: In order to reconcile the discrepancies between ancient and modern cosmology, confessional scholars from every viewpoint on the interpretation of the early chapters of Genesis agree that God accommodated language to finite human understanding. But in the history of interpretation, no consensus has emerged regarding what accommodation entails at the linguistic level. More precise consideration of how the ancient cognitive environment functions in the informative intention of the divine and human authors is necessary. Not only does relevance theory validate interpretative options that are inherently most probable within the primary communication situation, but the application of relevance theory can also help disentangle the complexities of dual authorship inherent in any model of accommodation. The results also make a salutary contribution to the theological reading of Scripture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a sequel to Richard Viladesau's well-received study, The Beauty of the Cross: The Passion of Christ in Theology and the Arts from the Catacombs to the Eve of the Renaissance. It continues his project of presenting theological history by using art as both an independent religious or theological "text" and as a means of understanding the cultural context for academic theology. Viladesau argues that art and symbolism function as alternative strands of theological expression sometimes parallel to, sometimes interwoven with, and sometimes in tension with formal theological reflection on the meaning of crucifixion and its role in salvation history. This book examines the two great revolutionary movements that gave birth to the modern West: the Renaissance and the Protestant Reformation. This period was eventful for both theology and art, and thus particularly fruitful for Viladesau's project. Using individual works of art, over sixty of which are reproduced in this book, to epitomize particular artistic and theological models, he explores the contours of each paradigm through the works of representative theologians as well as liturgical, poetic, artistic, and musical sources. To name a few examples, the theologies of Savonarola, Luther, Calvin, and the Council of Trent, are examined in correlation to the new situation of art in the era of Fra Angelico, Leonardo, Michelangelo, D?rer, Cranach, and the Mannerists. In this book, Viladesau continues to deepen our understanding of the foremost symbol of Christianity.
