Die ausgewählten Motivationstheorien von Herzberg und Porter/Lawler werden vorgestellt und mithilfe einer durchgeführten Umfrage bestätigt oder nicht bestätigt. Motivation im Allgemeinen und Instrumente der Mitarbeitermotivation sind sehr aktuelle Themen. In Unternehmen ist Motivation besonders wichtig, denn Mitarbeiter werden anspruchsvoller, wollen und müssen für ihre Arbeit motiviert werden. An dieser Stelle werden in vielen Unternehmen unterschiedliche Instrumente der Motivation eingesetzt. Diese Instrumente der Motivation wurden auf der Basis von Motivationstheorien entwickelt. Diese Hausarbeit zeigt auf, dass nicht nur monetäre Anreizsysteme Mitarbeiter motivieren, sondern auch nicht monetäre Instrumente der Motivation Mitarbeiter zu höheren Leistungen anspornen. Viele aktuelle Studien zu diesem Thema beschäftigen sich mit der kritischen Bewertung von Anreizsystemen – so kommt eine aktuelle StepStone-Studie zu dem Ergebnis, dass von rund 18500 Befragten ca. 80 % ein kollegiales Arbeitsumfeld als besonders motivierend empfinden, nicht aber unbedingt eine Gehaltserhöhung. In dieser Hausarbeit werden zunächst die Grundbegriffe der Motivation erläutert. Der Begriff Motivation sowie extrinsische und intrinsische Motivation werden voneinander abgegrenzt. Anschließend werden ausgewählte Motivationstheorien aus der Literatur näher erläutert, mithilfe einer durchgeführten Umfrage wird versucht, diese entweder zu bestätigen oder nicht zu bestätigen. Darauf aufbauend werden ausgewählte monetäre und nicht monetäre Instrumente der Motivation anhand von Fachliteratur beschrieben und im Anschluss kritisch bewertet. In der Schlussbemerkung werden die wichtigsten Ergebnisse der kritischen Bewertung und der durchgeführten Umfrage zusammengefasst, und es wird eine kurze Einschätzung über die Wichtigkeit von monetären und nicht monetären Instrumenten der Motivation abgegeben. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, auf das Thema Motivation mit seinen theoretischen Konzepten einzugehen. Anhand einer durchgeführten Umfrage im Bereich Sales (Vertrieb) sollen die vorgestellten Motivationstheorien bestätigt oder nicht bestätigt werden. Praxisgängige Instrumente der Motivation werden anschließend kritisch bewertet.

Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?

The techniques employed in such analysis first took on a recognizably modern form in the 1970s, but their roots go back to the earliest days of motion picture technology in the late nineteenth century. This book presents original essays accompanied by written responses which together create a dialogue exploring early efforts at audio-visual sequence analysis and their common goal to capture the "whole" of the communicative situation. The first three chapters of this volume look at the film-based research of Gestalt psychologists in Berlin as well as psychologists in the orbit of Karl and Charlotte Bühler in Vienna in the first decades of the twentieth century. Most of these figures – along with many other Central European scholars of this era – were driven into exile in the United States after the rise of National Socialism in the 1930s. This scientific migration led to the cross-pollination of communication studies in America, an outcome visible in the leading project in interaction research of the mid-twentieth century, the Natural History of an Interview. The following two chapters examine this project in its historical context. The volume closes with a critical edition of a treasure from the archives: the transcript of a speech delivered by Ray Birdwhistell, a key participant in the Natural History of an Interview project and founder of kinesics.

Book excerpt: I first became interested in Husserl and Heidegger as long ago as 1980, when as an undergraduate at the Freie Universitat Berlin I studied the books by Professor Ernst Tugendhat. Tugendhat's at tempt to bring together analytical and continental philosophy has never ceased to fascinate me, and even though in more recent years other influences have perhaps been stronger, I should like to look upon the present study as still being indebted to Tugendhat's initial incentive. It was my good fortune that for personal reasons I had to con tinue my academic training from 1981 onwards in Finland. Even though Finland is a stronghold of analytical philosophy, it also has a tradition of combining continental and Anglosaxon philosophical thought. Since I had already admired this line of work in Tugendhat, it is hardly surprising that once in Finland I soon became impressed by Professor Jaakko Hintikka's studies on Husserl and intentionality, and by Professor Georg Henrik von Wright's analytical hermeneu tics. While the latter influence has-at least in part-led to a book on the history of hermeneutics, the former influence has led to the present work. My indebtedness to Professor Hintikka is enormous. Not only is the research reported here based on his suggestions, but Hintikka has also commented extensively on different versions of the manuscript, helped me to make important contacts, found a publisher for me, and-last but not least-was a never failing source of encouragement.

The comparative perspective was limited to the US Federal sentencing guidelines. The intention of this volume is therefore, on the one hand, to draw a more nuanced picture of Anglo-American sentencing law focusing on three legal systems (England/Wales, USA and Canada) accompanied by commentaries from a German perspective; on the other hand, we want to make the German perspective (better) known within the Anglo-American legal world by reproducing important DJT documents in English language.
