Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story that spans from 1955 to sometime about 2045. It is a four-part story of a family originating from Cape Coast and Dowyaaniyili in the Northern Region, the story of a northern prince Dowbia Zangina that marries a German/Fante screen idol called Mercedes Huntman who loves him dearly and agree to move with him to the Dowyaaniyili, where he becomes chief after the death of his father. A military government throws him into Nsawam Medium Prison for allegedly collaborating with his journalist friend Ernest Dzigbordi to overthrow the military junta, and regains his freedom when a democratically elected government takes over. Their Granddaughter Raabia Sedzro goes into politics and becomes the first woman president of her country. She is a successful president and all her good works are cut short when she is assassinated in 2031. The story of President Lankwei Addison takes the reader into campaign travels to the hinterland of Ghana, including some factual events in the governments of Presidents Rawlings, Kufuor, and Atta Mills. Part Four of the story is drum narrations of historical occurrences not told in the first three parts. As recorded by a media guru Dowbia Yousif, the grandson of Mercedes Huntman.
Download or read book Welcome to Hell? written by John McManus and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. This book was released on 2018-04-26 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask a British football fan what they know about Turkish football, and they are unlikely to describe scenes of camaraderie, hospitality and humour. They are more likely to mention banners proclaiming 'Welcome to hell'. Or Leeds United supporters stabbed to death on an Istanbul street. Frustrated by the game's distorted image back home, John McManus set out to show the Turkish football that he knew - the rich, funny, obsessive, fan culture that he had encountered on the terraces. But he hadn't accounted for the politics. Travelling from the elite training facilities of Istanbul to dusty pitches on the Syrian border, taking in visits to far-flung clubs, encounters with characterful players and experiences at riotous matches along the way, Welcome to Hell? offers a unique perspective on an alluring yet troubled football culture.

Book Synopsis The End of This Day's Business by : Murray Constantine
Download or read book The End of This Day's Business written by Murray Constantine and published by Gateway. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set more than four thousand years in the future, The End of This Day's Business depicts a truly utopian way of life, a global society in which distinct national cultures are preserved but coexist without competitive nationalism, violence, or war. Women, characterised as the reasonable sex in this society, care for the earth and all it's creatures. Only one price must be paid for this harmony. It is the subjection of men, who, stripped of their history and deprived of any knowledge of women's sacred rights, complacently accept their 'natural' inferiority. The plot turns on the desire of one woman, Grania, an artist and leader, to teacher her son what is forbidden for men to know. Risking both their lives, she tells the story of when men dominated, especially of the twentieth-century rise of fascism, and the subsequent world transformation as life-loving women took over from death-loving men.

Book Synopsis A Stranger in the Kingdom by : Howard Frank Mosher
Download or read book A Stranger in the Kingdom written by Howard Frank Mosher and published by HMH. This book was released on 2014-05-27 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel of murder and its aftermath in a small Vermont town in the 1950s is “reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird . . . Absorbing” (The New York Times). In Kingdom County, Vermont, the town’s new Presbyterian minister is a black man, an unsettling fact for some of the locals. When a French-Canadian woman takes refuge in his parsonage—and is subsequently murdered—suspicion immediately falls on the clergyman. While his thirteen-year-old son struggles in the shadow of the town’s accusations, and his older son, a lawyer, fights to defend him, a father finds himself on trial more for who he is than for what he might have done. “Set in northern Vermont in 1952, Mosher’s tale of racism and murder is powerful, viscerally affecting and totally contemporary in its exposure of deep-seated prejudice and intolerance . . . [A] big, old-fashioned novel.” —Publishers Weekly “A real mystery in the best and truest sense.”—Lee Smith, The New York Times Book Review A Winner of the New England Book Award
Book Synopsis Murongiwa Stanislaus Marembo by : TAVA MAREMBO
Download or read book Murongiwa Stanislaus Marembo written by TAVA MAREMBO and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is chiefly a narrative by one of the founding politicians of Zimbabwe, Murongiwa Stanislaus Marembo, about his life in the then-oppressive Rhodesia. The man who spent arguably the longest, a total of seventeen years, in detention tells of his trials, tribulations, and the persecution he suffered for the independence of Zimbabwe. Mr. Marembo was one of the first people to be arrested and detained for political reasons. He was incarcerated in many a prison and detention and restriction area across what was then Southern Rhodesia and was left at the mercy of the wild. Marembo was instrumental in the transformation of Zimbabwe from the hands of the minority to the majority, but he did not live to enjoy the fruits of his labor. The real enemy pounced and assassinated him on 6 February 1981 by a bomb.
