Book Synopsis Weisheit und Wissenschaft by : Peter Nickl
Download or read book Weisheit und Wissenschaft written by Peter Nickl and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Aristoteles: Metaphysik, Nikomachische Ethik, Das Organon, Die Physik & Die Dichtkunst by : Aristoteles
Download or read book Aristoteles: Metaphysik, Nikomachische Ethik, Das Organon, Die Physik & Die Dichtkunst written by Aristoteles and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-06 with total page 2027 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Shengren written by Thorsten J. Pattberg and published by LoD Press, New York. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The shengren is the single most important concept in Chinese history. Since the Europeans had not anything like it, but refused to hold the candle to China; instead they withheld the shengren and talked about some lesser versions of Greek ‘philosophers’ or Christian ‘holy men.’ The English soon found a slightly better translation; they called the shengren ‘sages.’ The Germans however, the descendants of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation, never had a concept for sages or sagehood. In their effort to christen China, the Germans called the shengren ‘saints.’ Few people realize how the fate of the shengren was inextricably linked to the German obsession with Holiness. The European imperialists soon engaged in a fierce battle over China's most valuable possessions: its names.
Book Synopsis Essays in Ancient Greek Philosophy VI by : Anthony Preus
Download or read book Essays in Ancient Greek Philosophy VI written by Anthony Preus and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2001-05-16 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays on early Greek philosophy focuses on the natural and moral philosophy and the intellectual developments that led up to the philosophy of Plato. Studies of the philosophies of Anaximander, Zeno of Elea, Empedocles, the Pythagoreans, Atomists, and Sophists are included. These essays explore many of the liveliest topics in the study of early Greek philosophy today; they deal with a significant range of the most important figures in the period, and represent several varying methodological approaches. Among the issues addressed include the origins of Hellenic speculative philosophy; the beginnings of "naturalistic" or "scientific" thought; the development of philosophical "schools" of thought; the reevaluation of Hegel's view of early Greek philosophy as dominated by a dialectic between the immobility of being posited by Parmenides and the absolute flux of Heraclitus; and the ways in which the work of early Greek philosophers anticipate some of the recent epistemological concerns of skeptics and postmodern philosophers.

Book excerpt: This book presents a new and original analysis of the great ancient civilizations, focusing on the breakthroughs and their institutionalization in Greece, Israel, China, and India. The conditions under which these civilizations developed are systematically explored. For comparative purposes, the civilization of Assyria, where such a breakthrough did not take place is analyzed. Attention is given to the transformation of modes of thought and symbolism. Special focus is brought to the development of the great religions and the perception of tension between the transcendental and mundane orders and between rulers and other elites.
