Book Synopsis Weather Documentation at Kwajalein Missile Range by : Arnold A. Barnes
Download or read book Weather Documentation at Kwajalein Missile Range written by Arnold A. Barnes and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A WB-57F weather reconnaissance aircraft and a high-power radar (ALCOR) were used to document weather at Kwajalein Missile Range. Simultaneous measurements of cloud-reflectivity (Z) by radar, and water content (M) by aircraft were used to interpret measurements of reflectivity along the reentry trajectories close to the time of reentry. Techniques of obtaining and processing the data are described, and the results of the analysis for one mission are presented. These techniques permit the specification of the water content along the trajectory within a factor of 2, or plus or minus 3 dB. Observations from this case and from other days show the variability of the Z-M relation with altitude and cloud type. (Author).

Book Synopsis A Method to Predict the Parameters of a Full Spectral Distribution from Instrumentally Truncated Data by : Robert O. Berthel
Download or read book A Method to Predict the Parameters of a Full Spectral Distribution from Instrumentally Truncated Data written by Robert O. Berthel and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a method of correcting measured hydrometeor distributions that deficient in large-size particles because of instrument truncation. The corrective technique is developed with the analysis of experimental data and the application of the exponential-distribution function. A discussion is presented on the power-function equations used to define hydrometeor environments and the application of the corrected spectra to these mathematical relationships. Equations are presented for the real-time analysis of truncated distribution to provide estimates of the non-truncated spectra. (Author).

Book Synopsis Snow Characterization Instruments by : Lawrence C. Gibbons
Download or read book Snow Characterization Instruments written by Lawrence C. Gibbons and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report details the design, fabrication, and operation of three new instruments that were developed at AFGL to define some of the physical characteristics of naturally falling snow. Two are devices for the measurement of fall velocity and high-resolution snow rate. The other was conceived for the documentation of the ice-crystal composition of the prevailing snow. Problems that surfaced during the first year of operation are discussed along with the plans to correct the deficiencies. Examples of the data supplied by these instruments are shown. (Author).
Download or read book Minuteman written by David Stumpf and published by University of Arkansas Press. This book was released on 2021-02-26 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Minuteman: A Technical History of the Missile That Defined American Nuclear Warfare, David K. Stumpf demystifies the intercontinental ballistic missile program that was conceived at the end of the Eisenhower administration as a key component of the US nuclear strategy of massive retaliation. Although its nuclear warhead may have lacked power relative to that of the Titan II, the Minuteman more than made up for this in terms of numbers and readiness to launch—making it the ultimate ICBM. Minuteman offers a fascinating look at the technological breakthroughs necessary to field this weapon system that has served as a powerful component of the strategic nuclear triad for more than half a century. With exacting detail, Stumpf examines the construction of launch and launch control facilities; innovations in solid propellant, lightweight inertial guidance systems, and lightweight reentry vehicle development; and key flight tests and operational flight programs—all while situating the Minuteman program in the context of world events. In doing so, the author reveals how the historic missile has adapted to changing defense strategies—from counterforce to mutually assured destruction to sufficiency.
