Book excerpt: This is me, this is my story of abuse in the home and how the trauma has impacted my young and adult life. It may not always be easy reading but I believe that, in the end, it is a story about healing and hope. I write about the most intense and horrendous part of my recovery from the many years of sexual and violent abuse I suffered in my childhood, from two family members. For many years I could not look at, or even acknowledge those buried memories, choosing instead to soothe myself with food, alcohol, drugs etc. When I could no longer ignore my trauma and began to feel its full effect, I wanted to take my own life. I wrote the book for my two sons as at this time. I realised if I did not survive they would never know the true story behind my ending. I wanted to acknowledge that just because I am now a specialist worker in Domestic Abuse I have not been immune to living with the trauma of the past, I am also human like any other woman and have a story like many victims of violence. Recovery is not forgetting it happened or shutting it out, it is being brave, being vulnerable and being heard. I hope my story will encourage others to believe that we can heal, we can find our voice. I am the living proof that you can. I hope this book will resonate with other survivors or family member's who have been directly or indirectly impacted by abuse. You are the expert on your own life no one else.Be kind x

Book excerpt: You have a voice. And you have God's permission to use it. In some communities, certain voices are amplified and elevated while others are erased and suppressed. It can be hard to speak up, especially in the ugliness of social media. Power dynamics keep us silent and marginalized, especially when race, ethnicity, and gender are factors. What can we do about it? Activist Kathy Khang roots our voice and identity in the image of God. Because God created us in our ethnicity and gender, our voice is uniquely expressed through the totality of who we are. We are created to speak, and we can both speak up for ourselves and speak out on behalf of others. Khang offers insights from faithful heroes who raised their voices for the sake of God's justice, and she shows how we can do the same today, in person, in social media, in organizations, and in the public square. Be silent no more. If you have wondered when and how to speak, hear God's invitation to you to find and steward your authentic voice, whether in word or deed, to communicate the good news in a messed-up world. As you discern God's voice calling you to speak, you will discover how your voice sounds as you express God's heart to others. And the world will hear you loud and clear.

Book excerpt: There is both good and evil in this world, and unfortunately, our precious children can be exposed to and experience some very dark and terrible things—nothing any child should have to endure. It's of the utmost importance that our children have a safe haven and that we teach them that they indeed have a voice and can express when they are hurt, scared, or abused. We must take their words and their actions seriously and do all in our power to protect them. Sexual abuse is rampant, and both children and adults need to be able to identify the warning signs and know what to do when faced with that trauma. Even when, and especially when it is someone we know and think we can trust! In this book, you will meet Joetta and her three woodland puppets. Through these puppets and their stories, children will learn what is and what is not appropriate behavior. And what to do if faced with the same situations. They will learn that it's okay to say “NO,” “STOP,” and to use their voice to prevent anyone from touching them or hurting them in any way that makes them uncomfortable.

Millions of people are confronting aliens that authorities say do not exist. Meet the Three Thieves, a group of Grays assigned to duty in a small Kentucky town. They have been preparing a child for generations. Innocent Conner Callaghan will face the ultimate terror as he struggles to understand who he has been bred to be, and what he must do to save humanity. And Lauren Glass, government "empath" to the last surviving captive Gray, known only as B for Bob, has a unique ability to communicate with this captive Gray. But when B for Bob suddenly escapes the highly secure underground Air Force facility that he's been captive in for years, a frantic race begins, as the government must outmaneuver the Grays to keep the secret of their presence intact. The Grays is a mind-bending journey behind the curtain of secrecy that surrounds the subject of aliens, written by the field's great master, Whitley Strieber. Book excerpt: A New York Times bestseller: "A passionate and convincing case for the sophistication of nonhuman minds." —Alison Gopnik, The Atlantic Hailed as a classic, Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are? explores the oddities and complexities of animal cognition—in crows, dolphins, parrots, sheep, wasps, bats, chimpanzees, and bonobos—to reveal how smart animals really are, and how we’ve underestimated their abilities for too long. Did you know that octopuses use coconut shells as tools, that elephants classify humans by gender and language, and that there is a young male chimpanzee at Kyoto University whose flash memory puts that of humans to shame? Fascinating, entertaining, and deeply informed, de Waal’s landmark work will convince you to rethink everything you thought you knew about animal—and human—intelligence.

Book excerpt: Inner Voice: Unlock Your Purpose and Passion tells the story of how one man’s struggle to find the true meaning of life evolved into a worldwide movement known as Inner Voice™. Internationally recognized businessman, financial expert, and real-estate icon Russ Whitney spent five years and 20,000 hours researching and developing this program. It is built on simple yet powerful principles and strategies that guide readers to identify their purpose; develop their passion; and have a peaceful, joyful, and successful life that’s richer and more fulfilling than they ever dreamed possible. Inner Voice is a dramatic departure from Whitney’s earlier best-selling books, which all focused on financial success, real estate, and wealth-building strategies. Instead, he now teaches from personal experience the happiness that can be found in humility; the importance of living in the moment; the need to understand, recognize, and master the immutable laws of the universe; and how to surrender and find real answers and peace with what you can’t control. In addition, he introduces readers to powerful life-changing tools, including the Discovery Chart and two-way conscious contact, to achieve and maintain a connection with their Inner Voice. This step-by-step guide demonstrates exactly how to apply Inner Voice principles and strategies on a daily basis in order to be free of anxiety, frustration, fear, doubt, guilt, and shame so that you can have the spectacular life your creator intended for you.

Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, "the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death." Featuring a new preface by the author, this paperback shows that only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.
