This book was released on 1972 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pumping tests, chemical and biological analyses of water samples, and well screen inspection by means of a borehole TV camera were conducted in 1969 as part of a study of the efficiency of the relief well system along the Mississippi River between Alton and Gale, Illinois. The purposes of this study are to determine the extent and causes of well deterioration and to investigate methods for improving and maintaining the efficiency of the well system. The relief wells were designed by personnel of the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station and built under the supervision of the U.S. Army Engineering District, St. Louis (SLD). The wells included in this investigation were installed between 1953 and 1955. Since then, SLD has performed a series of well pumping tests, periodically inspected the relief well system, and observed the operation of the wells during high river stages of the Mississippi River. (Author Modified Abstract).

Book Synopsis History of Progress by : W. Allen Marr
Download or read book History of Progress written by W. Allen Marr and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 2392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sponsored by the Geo-Institute of ASCE This collection of 78 historical papers provides a wide view of the rich body of literature that documents the development of fundamental concepts geotechnical engineering and their application to practical problems. From the highly theoretical to the elegantly practical, the papers in this one-of-a-kind collection are significant for their contributions to the geotechnical engineering literature. Among the writings of more than 60 geotechnical engineering pioneers are several by Karl Terzaghi, widely known as the father of soil mechanics, R.R. Proctor, Arthur Casagrande, and Ralph Peck. Many of these papers contain information as useful today as when they were first written. Others provide great insight into the origins and development of the field and the thought processes of its leaders.
