Book excerpt: Here is an insider's account of the telecom industry and the true story of a telecom industry executive turned Wall Street analyst, just as the stock market bubble was beginning to burst. Thomas J. Lauria was a Wall Street analyst covering the white-hot telecom sector during the stock market bubble of 2000. He shares many personal reflections on his time in industry and on the Street. This book will appeal to investors, business executives, former industry employees, and students of business history and the global telecom industry. It ends with a summary of valuable lessons and a Q&A discussion with the author.

Download or read book Rise of China: Indian Perspective written by Editors: Prof S Gopal, Nabeel A Mancheri and published by Lancer Publishers LLC. This book was released on with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The remarkable rise of China in the last three decades has had a mixed global reaction. While many countries have welcomed this rise, some of China’s neighbours have viewed it with concern if not consternation. What does the rise of China signify for India, given our none too smooth relationship with China and latter’s unqualified support to Pakistan in military and nuclear field? What do our leading companies feel about China? Would the Indian Ocean be the scene of stiff confrontation between India and China? Or is “China Threat” an exaggeration or hype as some would hold? This book is the result of intense discussions on the above questions in a seminar held on Dec 20/21, 2011 at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore. The Chapters in this book, based on papers presented by leading experts on China both from the Government and the Private sectors covers almost all aspects of China from internal political developments, foreign policy to economy, S&T developments and Strategic capabilities, particularly with respect to India. China’s growing military and economic clout and impressive advances in trade and technology have all been analysed by various speakers who are well known for their expertise on china. China’s views on India have also been brought out succinctly. The Seminar was the first major interaction on a subject of strategic national interest. It is hoped that the book would contribute to better understanding of China by both the interested citizens of this country and the policy makers.
Book Synopsis Voice over IP Networks by : Pramode K. Verma
Download or read book Voice over IP Networks written by Pramode K. Verma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses three important issues in VoIP networks: Quality of Service, pricing and security. In addressing Quality of Service (QoS), it introduces the notion of delay not exceeding an upper limit, termed the bounded delay, to measure the Quality of Service in VoIP networks. Queuing models are introduced to measure performance in terms of bounded delays. Closed form solutions relating the impact of bounding delays on throughput of VoIP traffic are provided. Traffic that exceeds the delay threshold is treated as lost throughput. The results addressed can be used in scaling resources in a VoIP network for different thresholds of acceptable delays. Both single and multiple switching points are addressed. The same notion and analysis are also applied on jitter, another important indicator of the VoIP QoS This book also develops a pricing model based on the Quality of Service provided in VoIP networks. It presents the impact of quality of VoIP service demanded by the customer on the transmission resources required by the network using an analytical approach. In addition, it extends and applies the delay throughput analysis developed for VoIP networks in assessing the impact of risks constituted by a number of transportation channels, where the risk associated with each channel can be quantified by a known distribution. Finally, the book explores areas for future research that can be built on the foundation of research presented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Making of Telecommunications Policy examines the history, politics, and impact of telecommunications policy. Beginning with a comparison of several alternate views of the future, Olufs explains how government action makes the widespread use of some new technologies more likely than others. He details the challenges that rapid advances in communications technologies pose for policymaking institutions and considers the ways that government responds to the ideological, economic, and political interests of industry, private advocacy groups, and individuals. Olufs discussed the recent trend toward deregulation and provides a full analysis of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, including the politics of its enactment and its long-term implications for both industry and the daily lives of citizens.

Download or read book The Challenge To European Industrial Policy written by Bernard Udis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining recent European experience with industrial policy, Dr. Udis explores ways to ease the transition to reduced or redirected levels of military spending. He surveys government policies in Great Britain, France, West Germany, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, identifying strategies for individuals, firms, and regions as they adjust to shifts in the economy. Regional development, science and technology, and labor market policies are analyzed in conjunction with public procurement strategies and government aid for exports and international ventures. The book includes material drawn from the author's interviews with government officials and industry leaders, illustrating practitioners' perspectives on these measures and on the nature of diversification and conversion. Their views and experience, the author argues, will be valuable tools for policymakers weighing the costs and benefits of implementing industrial policies in the United States.
