Download or read book Bal-A-Vis-X written by Bill Hubert and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you teach? Do you find that, no matter how much time and energy you expend, how many different approaches you employ, regardless of subject or grade level or class size, one all-too-familiar pattern prevails: many learn much, with modest effort; many learn some, with great effort; far too many learn little, no matter how much effort? Bal-A-Vis-X enables both students and teachers to break that pattern, to work together is such a way that many more learn much, with modest effect; very many more learn more, with new found focus of effort; only a few, those who refuse, learn little. Bal-A-Vis-X is both a destination and a portal-to-beyond for any student or teacher willing to go.-- back cover
Download or read book Failed Images written by Ernst van Alphen and published by Valiz/Vis-A-VIS. This book was released on 2018 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Failed Images' attempts to understand the divergence between photography and the reality it portrays, analysing the various ways the photograph transforms that which exists before the camera. Because the photographic medium enables very different practices, which in turn results in many kinds of images, it must also be examined from a perspective outside of the dominant approach to the medium, generally called the 'snapshot.' This book therefore explores the photographic image by focusing on practices which refuse this conventional approach, namely staged, blurred, under- and overexposed, and archival photography.

Book Synopsis Vis Vim Vi: Declinations of Force in Leibniz’s Dynamics by : Tzuchien Tho
Download or read book Vis Vim Vi: Declinations of Force in Leibniz’s Dynamics written by Tzuchien Tho and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-12 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic reconstruction of Leibniz’s dynamics project (c. 1676-1700) that contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the concepts of physical causality in Leibniz’s work and 17th century physics. It argues that Leibniz’s theory of forces privileges the causal relationship between structural organization and physical phenomena instead of body-to-body mechanical causation. The mature conception of Leibnizian force is not the power of one body to cause motion in another, but a kind of structural causation related to the configuration of integral systems of bodies in physical evolution. By treating the immanent philosophy of Leibniz’s dynamics, this book makes explicit the systematic aims and inherent limits of Leibniz's physical project, in addition to providing an alternative vision of the scientific understanding of the physical world in the late 17th and early 18th century.
Download or read book Vis À Vis written by Don McKay and published by Wolfville, NS : Gaspereau Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Vis à Vis, Don McKay charts a vision of poetics that keeps its feet on the ground and its eyes on the horizon. As one of Canada's leading poets, McKay has long been known for his passionate engagement with his natural surroundings. This book collects three essays on this relationship, together with new and previously published poems that further demonstrate these ideas. Using bushtits, baler twine, Heidegger and Levinas, McKay sets out to explore some of the almost unspeakable concepts driving the use of language particular to poets, and the arguably skewed relationship human beings have with their natural surroundings. In a book the Globe & Mail calls "stylishly constructed" and "impeccably casual," one of Canada's best-loved writers offers his own sense of poetics.

Book Synopsis EU Climate Policy Explained by : Jos Delbeke
Download or read book EU Climate Policy Explained written by Jos Delbeke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EU has been the region of the world where the most climate policies have been implemented, and where practical policy experimentation in the field of the environment and climate change has been taking place at a rapid pace over the last twenty-five years. This has led to considerable success in reducing pollution, decoupling emissions from economic growth and fostering global technological leadership. The objective of the book is to explain the EU's climate policies in an accessible way, to demonstrate the step-by-step approach that has been used to develop these policies, and the ways in which they have been tested and further improved in the light of experience. The book shows that there is no single policy instrument that can bring down greenhouse gas emissions, but the challenge has been to put a jigsaw of policy instruments together that is coherent, delivers emissions reductions, and is cost-effective. The book differs from existing books by the fact it covers the EU's emissions trading system, the energy sector and other economic sectors, including their development in the context of international climate policy. Set against the backdrop of the 2015 UN Climate Change conference in Paris, this accessible book will be of great relevance to students, scholars and policy makers alike.
