What gets translated, it seems, is not merely the written or the spoken word, but the very identity of the traveler. Jaques Thierry descended from a Huguenot family from Tournai, Spanish Netherlands (now Belgium) who immigrated to England in 1582. Jaques was a respected merchant who married Maria Rijn of Amsterdam and they were the parents of two children.
