Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patrick Taylor first charmed readers with An Irish Country Doctor, a warm and enchanting novel in the tradition of James Herriot and Jan Karon. Now Taylor returns to the colorful Northern Ireland community of Ballybucklebo, where there's always something brewing beneath the village's deceptively sleepy surface. Young Doctor Barry Laverty has only just begun his assistantship under his eccentric mentor, Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly, but he already feels right at home in Ballybucklebo. When the sudden death of a patient casts a cloud over Barry's reputation, his chances of establishing himself in the village are endangered, especially since the grieving widow is threatening a lawsuit. While he anxiously waits for the postmortem results that he prays will exonerate him, Barry must regain the trust of the gossipy Ulster village, one patient at a time. From a put-upon shop girl with a mysterious rash to the troubled pregnancy of a winsome young lass who's not quite married yet, Ballybucklebo provides plenty of cases to keep the two country G.P.s busy. Not all their challenges are medical in nature. When a greedy developer sets his sights on the very heart of the community, the village pub, it's up to the doctors to save the Black Swan (affectionately known to the locals as the "Mucky Duck") from being turned into an overpriced tourist trap. After all, the good citizens of Ballybucklebo need some place to drink to each other's health. . . . Whether you've visited in the past, or are discovering Ballybucklebo for the first time, An Irish Country Village is an ideal location for anyone looking for wit, warmth, and just a touch of blarney. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The village of Campodimele in the Aurunci Mountains has been called 'the village of eternal youth' by the scientific community, after a study revealed the astonishing longevity of its inhabitants. The average life expectancy of the Campomelani is 95, compared to the European average of 75 for men and 82 for women. Not only do the villagers live to an extraordinary age, but they also enjoy healthy and active lives at an age when many people in the UK have succumbed to general infirmity or the three major plagues of Western life: cancer, heart disease and diabetes. How do they do it? Tracey Lawson decided that the only way to find out was to spend some time living in the village herself. This book chronicles twelve months in the life of Campodimele, focusing on the seasonal cooking and eating habits that doctors believe are the key to the villagers' long lives. There are insights from such colourful characters as Gerardo, who still zips down to the wheat fields on his aged scooter, and Maria, who is often seen chasing hens up the hill on her 83-year-old legs, as well as a year's worth of timeless, simple recipes that will seduce even the busiest urbanite. With full-colour plate sections to show off the wealth of gorgeous photography, A Year in the Village of Eternity is at once a Mediterranean cookbook, a sensible and inspiring food manual and a stunning, unique travel book; a winning cross between Under the Tuscan Sun and Jamie's Italy with a dash of You Are What You Eat.

Shes ready to begin a new life in her grandmothers old cottage in this picturesque village of lush gardens and wild waterfront. Jackie opens her own studio and gallery and finds that life is perfect except for the bills. In a desperate attempt to save the life she now loves, Jackie organizes a studio tour, rallying together the islands many artists and crafts people, in hopes of bringing more visitors to the island. The idea is popular, but Jackie is almost defeated. How to persuade these fiercely independent artists to work together without disrupting the delicate balance of their daily lives? The whole village falls into chaos as artistic personalities clash and long-hidden skeletons come out of the closet. Secret trysts, nude portraits, love and inconsolable broken hearts, mistaken death, and resurrection slowly unravel Jackies carefully crafted tour plans.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, nestled along the shore of Lake St. Clair just north of Detroit, is the smallest of the five Grosse Pointe communities. After the settlement of Detroit in 1701, the area that would become Grosse Pointe Shores saw the arrival of French habitants who built their ribbon farms. Beginning in the 1860s, the area began to change as well-to-do Detroiters erected summer homes on the lakeshore. The Village of Grosse Pointe Shores was formally established in 1911, and the community grew as great mansions were built along Lake Shore Road. Following World War II, the community evolved yet again as the grand mansions disappeared and properties were subdivided. By the end of the 20th century, the village had grown into an established community of comfortable, well-maintained homes. In 2011, these residents gathered together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of their community.
