Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 1991 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Europa Vasconica - Europa Semitica by : Theo Vennemann gen. Nierfeld

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theory that the linguistic and cultural landscape of Europe north of the Alps and the Pyrenees was shaped in prehistoric times by the interaction of Indo-European speakers with speakers of languages related to Basque and to Semitic. These influences on the lexicon, grammar, and toponymy of the West Indo-European languages (with special focus on Germanic) are demonstrated in German and English research papers, provided here with summaries, commentaries, and a new introduction in English, and with general and etymological indexes.
Book Synopsis European language policy by : Rüdiger Ahrens
Download or read book European language policy written by Rüdiger Ahrens and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Brücken Bauen in Einem Vielgestaltigen Europa by : Sabine Bieberstein
Download or read book Brücken Bauen in Einem Vielgestaltigen Europa written by Sabine Bieberstein and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building bridges has been and still is the main task of the European Society of Women in Theological Research (ESWTR). It aims to facilitate theological and academic religious debate transcending the borders between languages and countries, as well as those resulting from religions, confessions, cultures or traditions, in order to offer constructive future perspectives. This volume has now adopted "building bridges" as its main theme. It reflects the contributions to the 11th International Conference of ESWTR held in 2005 in the unique historical and cultural setting of Budapest. European women in the lead of theological research discuss the subject on the basis of their different specialist approaches and thus provide a unique spectrum of contemporary discourse from very varied disciplines in theology and religious studies.

Book Synopsis National, Regional and Minority Languages in Europe by : Gerhard Stickel
Download or read book National, Regional and Minority Languages in Europe written by Gerhard Stickel and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2011 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European linguistic diversity goes far beyond the official national languages of the present 27 member states of the European Union. In every country several languages of smaller or larger groups of speakers are used besides the official language or the languages of the majority population. These languages are autochthonous languages that have been used for a long time in the individual country as well as allochthonous languages of different groups of migrants and their descendants. The sometimes complicated relations between national, regional and minority languages within various countries are discussed in this volume. Besides reports on several countries, the general sociolinguistic and legal conditions are dealt with in overview contributions. In addition, the Dublin Declaration on the relationship between official languages and regional and minority languages in Europe is presented in 24 languages.

Download or read book Apropos Canada written by Eugen Banauch and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first graduate conference of the Young Scholars' Network of the Association for Canadian Studies in German-speaking countries took place in Berlin in 2004. The conference has been an integral part of the academic year in Canadian Studies ever since. It offers an opportunity for young scholars to present their B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. projects and receive feedback and helpful suggestions from peers and experts. This type of academic exchange is particularly important in Canadian Studies as they often occupy a marginal position at universities. Beside graduate students from Canada, Germany and Austria, prominent Canadian scholars have also been invited to speak at the conference every year. This volume contains selected contributions (in English, German and French) presented at the first five graduate conferences and demonstrates the large scope of Canadian studies in German-speaking countries.
Book Synopsis Why Translation Studies Matters by : Daniel Gile
Download or read book Why Translation Studies Matters written by Daniel Gile and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether Translation Studies really matters is an important and challenging question which practitioners of translation and interpreting raise repeatedly. TS scholars, many of whom are translators and interpreters themselves, are not indifferent to it either. The twenty papers of this thematic volume, contributed by authors from various parts of Europe, from Brazil and from Israel, address it in a positive spirit. Some do so through direct critical reflection and analysis, arguing in particular that the engagement of TS with society should be strengthened so that the latter could benefit more from the former. Others illustrate the relevance and contribution of TS to society and to other disciplines from various angles. Topics broached include the cultural mediation role of translators, issues in literary translation, knowledge as intellectual capital, globalization through English and risks associated with it, bridging languages, mass media, corpora, training, the use of modern technology, interdisciplinarity with psycholinguistics and neurophysiology.
